Ok ok so the thing about Ripley as a villain that drives me wild is that everything with her is such a trickle. Like, she has this air of terrifying mystique, appearing only in traces until she absolutely Explodes in the most spectacular way possible.

And it happens more than once! Not just with Viktor and cabal’s ruin and the bug on retort and Glintshore and that THIRTY-FIVE EPISODE PAYOFF, but even from the start, it’s like:

Percy tries to kill Ripley, but never comes into contact with her, and is arrested before he even sees her face. In Whitestone, they find her notes and experiments in Pelor’s temple, unsigned, not knowing for sure it’s her (although Taliesin seems to have an inkling). A Whitestone peasant warns them to stay away from The Countess’ manor, still not naming her, but Percy guesses confidently that time. Kerrion Stonefell begs for Ripley to stand down during their fight with him, thinking it’s her instead of Percy with the guns, which ties the notes to her. They FINALLY find her in the prison cell, but in disguise, her only giveaway the hand, so even her entrance has a layer of intrigue and suspense that goes pretty much unparalleled.

And then almost Immediately, after that iconic interrogation and the briefest, most tense alliance of all time, SHE DISAPPEARS WITHOUT A TRACE. FOR MONTHS.

Like, she has such a presence, and yet the actual amount of time she’s physically there is spread across only two episodes- three if you count finding her in the cell, before they even know it’s her. And that extends to the world too right, like, it’s her guns that are still used to this day, not Percy’s. Everything about her is terrifying and brilliant and awful and permanent, despite her having probably less screen time than every other major villain in the campaign. Insane. Who is doing it like you Anna.
