I love Gingivere so very much
Welp, finished Martin The Warrior. Next up, Mossflower. Which, as much as I remember enjoying, I'm mostly looking forward to sweet Gingivere.
Also, on the subject of Gingivere, I was last week-old when I put together that his name probably means "ginger fur". Though "vair" usually refers specifically to a squirrel's pelt in heraldry.
Made the mistake of pulling out Long Patrol to look something up real quick, ended up getting absorbed in just reading the first few chapters because even all these years later it's still very well written.

Another year without him and another year blessed by his books. Today, I’d like to revisit the anniversary of Brian Jacques’ death. Redwall will always care for me, and I will never forget that. Rest in peace and in our memory.
Today we remember the life and death of Mr. Brian Jacques.

I started reading Redwall a couple years after he died, so I remember his death, but I never felt it the way I know many people did. Nevertheless, his life and legacy have touched me greatly. Redwall has given me joys and opportunities I never would've gotten otherwise, it's been with me when I need it most, and it's shown me what is good in the world.
"Jacques was a natural storyteller. He told touching stories of the responses he got from young readers, with tears springing to his eyes. He revelled in being recognised within Liverpool. He was generous to his readers and his city, including becoming a patron of the Royal school, a role which he valued highly. He was intensely proud of his success and worked tirelessly to maintain it." -Jacques' obituary in The Guardian, Feb. 8 2011
Thank you for everything you've done, Mr. Jacques. God be with your family today. Long live the world you've created.

P.S. the first photo I included is of Gonff Prince of Mousethieves and Martin the Warrior, who are Jacques' self-insert character and the most iconic character of the series, respectively. The second, of course, is Brian himself.
Brome: Are you having fun?
Felldoh: No. I’m having dark, disturbing thoughts that I don’t like to talk about.
Joseph: [to Mariel] We need to go over the ground rules for tonight.
Joseph: No boys, no parties, no summoning spirits or switching bodies, and no filling the house with soap bubbles.
