The charm is in placing different character archetypes together. Shrews and Long Patrol hares aren't rare but a lone hare with the Guosim is refreshing, just like a thief and a badger lord. 

Thank God it doesn't spend a ton of time at Redwall in the first 3rd. That annoys me in later books. 

I remembered, of all things, the plugs and dips. 

It's hard to be enthusiastic about a new concept like Tabura knowing it wouldn't come back even if he hadn't died. It's a great concept though.

I like to think Rangval is part of the Reguba line of squirrels from Marlfox. 

This is really short because....it's really enjoyable! I'm so surprised! I was wary for the first 3 chapters but it keeps things fresh and makes tweaks in the material that make sense. This and Loamhedge were pleasant surprises!

That write up about the book is going to be fairly long because it's surprisingly good for a latter entry in the series and really harkens back to the earlier books in a way others don't but -

the synopsis for Loamhedge calls it a "cursed Abbey" which, it isn't, it was just built on a fault line that ended up swallowing it as a well as the great sickness (So huh I guess it was cursed, but at least it isn't constantly beseiged upon liked Redwall).

I found that interesting. esp. knowing that spirits (Martin, the lineage of Badger Lords and Ladies) and foresight are a canon thing in this world
