I've been seeing a lot of the headcanon that Athena doesn't realize that mortals do not just spawn from their fathers' heads and so I present you with a complementary idea:

What if she taught Odysseus the same thing?

Like you can't tell me that as a teenager he didn't just go ask her all the 'grown-up' questions he didn't want to ask his parents, so she just told him what she thought was the answer, and approximately 20 years later Penelope had to give the talk to the fucking goddess of wisdom and her stupid ass husband.

Alternatively, Athena perfectly knows the truth, but still tells Odysseus the head thing in order to scare him out of having sex, cause it's nothing more than a distraction and when he inevitably confronts her about it she just goes

"I wasn't lying, just giving my personal experience, it's not my fault it's not universal"

(Will probably write this as a crack fic, honestly)

The thing about Palamedes is that based on his overall being genuinally a good person vibe I do think he only endangered Telemachus because he was pretty sure Odysseus was lying. After all he knew Odysseus well enough to draw this conclusion.

Wich does open the idea for my man being completly heartbroken and lowkey hated in a reality where he was actually wrong and Odysseus had fully went mad for reals. No one has a good time at all. Also whatever revenge plan Penelope would have in mind would be worse than Odysseus for sure (although I do think Palamedes would fully be "no I do deserve that one actually" after killing her son in front of her and ending Odysseus whole disnasty to prove a point he didn't even prove).

Bonus points if Ody went mad the only way he would via angering a god and the curse is lifted after he kills his son and Agamemnon fully not reading the room is like "cool that was fixed, let's go to war" while everyone else is in shock.

Odysseus: I have a lovely wife.

Achilles: I'm sorry?

Odysseus: I said I have a wife!

Achilles: I know. I heard you. I am just sorry.

*Patroclus drags Achilles away as Odysseus is held back by a soldier*

Diomedes gains his immortality and at first it might seem as great.

But one day everyone who he knows dies and he sees statues and paintings of him and them hating how they look as they look similar but they don't look like them. But one day he realizes he doesn't remember how they look.

So he goes and watches the statues knowing, FEELING something is wrong they look different but that's the closest he can get to remembering them.

So he stays in front of them, watching them hoping, praying to remember their faces at least one more time but it's too late, his memories tainted by the paintings and statues and even the glimpses he might remember are altered with faces he saw from the statues.

If I was a Hellene living in the Heroic Age I would simply leave Thebes and never return. RIP to Semele, Pentheus, Agave, Cadmus, Autonoe, Laius, Jocasta, Oedipus, Amphiaraus, Capaneus, Hippomedon, Parthenopeus, Eteocles (not to be confused with Eteoclus), Tydeus, Mecisteus, Polynices, Eteoclus (not to be confused with Eteocles), Antigone, Haemon, and Creon, but I’m different.

Athena: Food for thought...

Tydeus: *munching Melanippus's brain* Hm...Ok

Athena: ...

Athena: NO!

*a few years later*

Odysseus: Food for thought!

Athena: *suspicious side look*

I love how Athena says "I've no respect for bullies" in "Little Wolf" as though she wasn't bullying her half-brother Ares for a lot of the Iliad.

Hades after Hadestown: Finally

Alecto: Sir, you have been invited to another greek mythology musical.

Hades: Yeah, I can do another one. As long as it's not-

Alecto: It's about a man wanting to see his wife again.

Hades:...

Alecto: This also includes his son.

Hades:...

Alecto: This time, there will be an entire crew singing with him

Hades:...

Hades:...

Hades:...

Hades: Bye

athena being a wingman for young odysseus. Get that bitch an owl, bitches love owls. She is the specific bitch she is speaking about. or a riddle, nothing captures a young girl's heart like a good riddle.

It works because Penelope is as much of a nerd as Odysseus, but purely by accident

This is Euripides coded

I'm very sensitive to minor characters in stories, I'm always mad when the author and readers treat them like random people who died or just another casualty, when no, those people had lives and dreams and hopes and I want to know them.

Like, in Epic, there's 600 Ithacans. We only know five. (Polites, Eurylochus, Elpenor, Perimedes and Odysseus himself.), in the Odyssey, we know of 3 others (Antiphus, Eurylus & Amphidamas.), they were 600, I WANT TO KNOW ALL OF THEM. I want to know if they were married, if they longed for their wives as much as Odysseus did, if they also had children they never met but wanted to, or sisters they wanted to see again, or mothers they longed to feel the embrace of. We only ever briefly know Eurylochus was married to Ctimene, but what else? And the trojan women? We know of the important ones, (Briseis, Andromache, Creusa, Hecuba, Laodice, Cassandra, Polyxena, etc..) but there must have been tons of women suffering there, who were they before the war? Did they have fathers, brothers, sons who died? Or were they enslaved with their mothers, sisters and daughters? Do they ever get to feel happy again? I hate in when a book goes: "The poets won't sing of this person" or "The Poets don't care about this person" LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER, I'M THE POET, I'LL SING, I CARE. LET ME EAT UP EVERY SINGLE STORY EVER. All to say I'm considering writting fanfics about either Odysseus' crewmen or the trojen women.

Would y'all read that?

I love how much of a wife guy Odysseus is because if I was able to somehow marry Penelope, I too would bring her up at every moment possible - especially in the middle of fighting a war.
