Ngl More Than A Little Upset At This One.
Ngl more than a little upset at this one.

A car drove up the driveway of the little farm in Henford one day. Ruth saw it approach from the kitchen window. She recognised it as an army vehicle.

As two officers exited the car and walked up to the door, Ruth's heart sank to a depth she had never known possible. She was filled with instant dread. There was no good reason for the officers to be there. She felt herself begin to mourn without even knowing who for.

Ruth collapsed to the ground and the officers ran to her side. Teddy appeared and held his wife as she disolved into tears. She could barely speak, only saying 'no, no no no,' over and over again.

The officers pitied the grieving mother, her reaction making their job even harder. It was impossible news to deliver, and yet they had to let her know.
'I am so sorry sir, madam,' said the senior of the pair. 'It is with great sadness that we must advise that your two sons, Privates Brown and Brown, were killed in action serving their country.'

There would be no bodies to bury. No chance to say goodbye. Their dearest twins, Bernard and Cecil, were gone. Killed as they defended the vulerable peoples of their country from the terror in the skies. Their deaths were not in vain. But Ruth and Teddy felt they were, nonetheless.
