People who try to copy historical writing styles don't say enough weird stuff in them. I'm listening to a 1909 story about a ghost car right now, and the narrator just said he honked the car horn a bunch of times, but the way he phrased it was "I wrought a wild concerto on the hooter".

I hate to do this, but I am getting increasingly desperate and have already relied on friends more than I would like: my health issues (probably some kind of long covid or chronic fatigue or.. something resulting from getting shingles and then COVID back to back) that cost me my job have continued, and I am in the process of applying for disability but have no idea if that will even work. I would prefer to be able to afford food and rent if possible. So if you're able and willing, I would greatly appreciate anything you can spare. I have a kofi account with this username (and a link in my bio), alternatively PayPal is awarrenpa (at) gmail and Venmo is Andrew-Warren-103. Another way you can help would be to send asks about history questions so I can hopefully provide something of some value in return. And if you can't or don't want to help that's totally cool! Everything is hard for everyone! I get it. Have a photo I don't think I've ever posted on tumblr. I made that leather cap, this was when I was still an apprentice leather worker.

A photo of me making a slightly odd face, wearing an 18th-century soldier's regimental coat of blue with red facings on the lapels and collar. On my head is a tall leather cap with an undecorated standing front piece. My long, wild hair is escaping from underneath it.

A drawing by Paul Gavarni, 1838, in his series Les Petits malheurs du bonheur (Little Misfortunes of Happiness).

The caption reads: Pour ne pas afficher ses amours, sortir précipitamment par une porte dérobée et rester pris au traquenard. (In order not to show off your love life, you rush out through a back door and get caught in the trap.)

image of a page of The Code of the Woosters by P.G. Wodehouse. Text reads:
"I reached out a hand from under the blankets, and rang the bell for Jeeves.
'Good evening, Jeeves.'
'Good morning, sir.'
This surprised me.
'Is it morning?'
'Yes, sir.'
'Are you sure? It seems very dark outside.'
'There is a fog, sir. If you will recollect, we are now in autumn — season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.”
'Season of what?'
'Mists, sir, and mellow fruitfulness.'"

feeling like this lately

Just walked by a car dealership and it was quite windy and the spooky arm inflatable faceless tube beast almost got me, but I was faster than him.

after eight years, I finally updated my huge Historical Fashion Reference & Resources Doc! Now in the form of a MUCH more easily updated Google Doc with better organization, refreshed links, and five more pages of books and online resources.

I know tumblr hates links, but it’s worth it for a doc that I can now update with far more regularity going forward! RIP to the original, you did your duty for far longer than you should have. 😔🙏🏼
