If you're still taking prompts, I have an idea. Maybe one with the pitbull puppy again where Shawn brings the puppy home to surprise Grant? I loved the puppy story you wrote for the zombie au. Take your time though and if you don't want to its ok! Thank you!

Finding Grant asleep on the couch was a common occurrence in the Safehouses he and Shawn stayed in. All the running and fighting tired him out much more easily than Shawn.

Normally a person would think better of trying to wake someone who clearly needed the rest.. but the older man was too excited to show his friend the little pitbull puppy he had found earlier.

He had it hidden in his shirt. Poking it’s tiny head up from the neck hole and licking his chin. It was just so precious! It was so good during the trip back too. Staying quiet when Shawn needed to hide from the wandering undead that were prowling around.

“Okay little guy. Let’s go say hello to Grant.” Shawn smiled as he unzipped his jacket and carefully took the puppy out of his shirt. He slowly walked over to Grant, who was still fast asleep on the couch.

With a slight chuckle, the former-toymaker placed the puppy onto Grant’s chest. He stirred a little, but didn’t open his eyes. Then the puppy started whining, wanting attention from the sleeping boy. It crawled over to the young man’s face and started licking it. Tail wagging excitedly.

That’s when Grant started to wake up.

“F-Five more minutes..” He mumbled. Still not quite awake yet, but he did manage to open one eye a bit. Grant closed it, trying to get some more sleep. The puppy whined at him again. Thankfully the whining, along with the licking snapped him awake.

“W-Whoa! W-What’s h-happening?!” The young man bolted up. Accidentally making the little puppy slide down the blanket and into his lap. It looked up at him with his sweet little eyes and let out another impatient whine. Wanting to play with him. Grant’s eyes grew wide in shock. “I-Is that a puppy?”

“It sure is. I found him earlier. Poor little guy was all alone. Thought I’d take him back here with me, and give you a little surprise.” Seeing the look on his friend’s face made him feel wonderful. There was light in those usually sad eyes of his. Something he hadn’t seen since before the apocalypse started.

“He’s so cute! C-Can we keep it?” Grant held the puppy close and started petting its head. Clearly not wanting it to leave.

“Sure kiddo, but you have to be responsible for it, and that means we need to be very careful when moving to other Safehouses.” Shawn states. Yes switching Safehouses could be a bit of a problem. While zombies seem to ignore animals, there was still the chance that the little puppy might start barking and attract them with the noise. Where’s there’s noise. There’s undead.

“I-I will! I’ll take care of it! I-I promise!” Grant said. Looking happy and excited to look after the little dog. Although he seemed to pause for a moment, looking deep in thought. “W-What should we make him?”

“Name? Huh.. I actually didn’t think of that. Hmm. I’m sure we’ll think of something good. Hopefully not “Fido.” Too common.” Shawn joked. Stopping to pet the tiny dog’s head. His friend petting it as well. Causing the puppy to roll over for a belly rub.

The apocalypse was hard. Very hard.. but at least the two friends had something that made things a little better. Something that would give them hope, and a precious little friend to keep them both company.

Hey! Sorry if the story isn’t very good! Today was a bit of a long day and I’m very tired. I still had a lot of fun writing this though! But again, I’m sorry if it wasn’t good! I’ll try harder with the next ones, I promise! 😅

Also if anyone has an idea for a name for the puppy, I’d love to hear it! 😄
