Because The Sims is a completely functioning game, you can't alt-tab out when using DirectX 11 (which many people have now been switched to by default). To re-enable the ability to tab out of the Torment Nexus game, go into Game Options then Graphics, and change Display Type to Windowed Fullscreen. In some versions, this may be called Windowed Borderless.

If you do use DX11, it may well have broken your CC. You can run a patch fix with S4S, instructions are here.

Alternatively, you can just switch back to DX9. The option is near the bottom right of the Graphics options.
