Fun fact, I binged this in like 3 days. All 16 chapters. I specifically read it on A03 just so I wouldn’t lose my place because sometimes tumblr hates me and boots me back to the home page after a while. It was THAT enthralling.

Goddamn, the world building in this fic was so well thought out and immersive. It would have been so easy to be like “they’re vampires, they are sexy and live in another city, blah blah blah”, but nope! The fact that there are laws, and familiar hierarchies, and specific foods just for vampires, magic determining chess, even a whole ass language?? It feels so real, like an actual part of history. I could ramble on about this because it’s so well done.

And poor Tae - seeing him grapple with what the curse makes him do is such an interesting take on the vampire myth. I kept thinking of the line from the song “Bells of Notre Dame” from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, where it asks “what makes a monster and what makes a man?”, and I really feel that through this fic. From how humans view them, to how even others in Infracticus view each other, I love how this fic explores that concept. Plus Tae and OC’s relationship felt earned.

Definitely take some time out of a long weekend and check this fic out. It’s so intriguing and definitely checks all the boxes of a great fantasy/supernatural fic
