Bless LOTM for keeping my sanity in check as I deal with jet lag. Gotten to the 400 threshold and the way this story goes from “casual daily activities” to “OH FUCK WE’RE FUCKED WE’RE SO COOKED” at the drop of a hat is the wildest thing I’ve ever seen.

Like one day Klein would just be hanging out doing his stuff and tomorrow he’s gonna be attacked by some high sequence beyonder associate. Also the way he’s like “I’m gonna avenge you captain” and his burning desire for revenge is so huge that he’s like “I’m going to achieve semi divinity and half of the reason why is because I’m gonna kill you Ince.”

Ink Demonth 2024 Day 4 : Umbrella

Umbrella

Audrey walked out onto the city streets, the rain’s heavy downpour drowning out the chattering noises of the passing pedestrians. She hid her face under an umbrella, avoiding contact with rain as much as possible.

After discovering the truth about her body’s constitution, she began to grew somewhat wary of large amounts of water. Some experiments later, she discovered she could shower, bathe, and pretty much do any daily activities like a normal person, just as she did before. However, the sensation still felt stranger to her, as if the water was slowly dulling and thinning her flesh every time she touched it. Of course, it was probably just some underlying psychological feeling, as no real problems had aroused so far.

Still, she hated being drenched in rain.

Any normal person would!

Audrey walked down the streets casually as a familiar sight of a lush green field slowly came into her view. 

Central Park.

She made her way into the public park, being amongst the few people who still remained after such weather. 

Audrey’s large, curious eyes looked up towards the sky where the sun couldn’t be seen.

She slowly took in a breath of her surroundings.

Everything was peaceful.

Just as she lowered her gaze, a peculiar figure caught her eye.

The figure stood in the rain, a distant far away from her, with no umbrella nor coverage besides a brown boater hat, allowing their body to be soaked entirely. 

Their hand reached for their hat, and removed it, in the midst of the rain.

Audrey made a puzzled expression, carefully making her way over as to not step into any puddles. But just as she was about to offer the person her umbrella, the rain suddenly retreated, and the sun’s warm rays pierced through the gray clouds again.

She couldn’t help but look up at the sight in awe.

“I like the rain.”

A calm, gentle voice of a young man suddenly spoke up. Audrey lowered her head to find the soaked man speaking to her. Everything from top to bottom of this stranger was completely drenched. He casually wiped his glasses, pushing them up to his nose to look at her with a smile.

“Why?” Audrey couldn’t help but blurt out that question.

The man put on his hat again, his smile growing a little solemn.

“Once, a tragedy happened, and the rain arrived a little too late. Since then, I just grew a habit of taking in the weather.”

Audrey still didn’t really understand, but she understood it would be rude to pry.

The man laughed, his black coat shaking along with the motion of his body.

“Sometimes, I think people despise the rain too much. Humans seem to lose their imaginative minds when they grow older. I find admiring the puddles still an entertaining activity.”

Audrey chuckled a little. She also had a habit of watching the puddles, too, albeit from afar.

“It gets cold, though.” Audrey said, worried if the man was going to get sick or not.

“I won’t get sick.” The man replied with a smile again, understanding the intentions behind Audrey’s question. “Don’t worry. Thanks for looking out though, young lady.”

She wanted to refute that the man also seemed to be the same age, or at least a similar age as her. Her mouth promptly shut when she remembered Wilson.

“Say, what’s your name?” He asked casually, brushing away a piece of curly hair stuck to his forehead.

“Audrey.” She wanted to reach out a hand to shake, but retracted when she remembered the man’s state. She also purposefully omitted her last name.

“Audrey..” The man pondered for a second, before nodding. “Nice to meet you. I’m Alan Gray.”

And Secretive Plotter too <3 the one who hides under the veil of stars but can never hide from the gaze that is called The Reader. May you both have happy lives with your found families or succeed in your search to complete that found family.

LOTM Vol 4’s ending

You nearly just died multiple times. You nearly gave up but you can’t, because this man was the result of many tragedies, including yours. You think of the face you hadn’t seen for a long time, realizing he had always been around after all. This revenge was for you, and for him as well. Then he shows up, not as Sherlock Moriarty, not as Gehrman Sparrow, but as the face you always knew. It’s so familiar. Yet, is that really the true him? Had you ever known him? He enacts the revenge, while the person who stuck together with you from the beginning, the one who also fought for a bygone, familiar person, dies peacefully in his arms, while he wears another familiar face. You think you see him again, then he seems to take on another face again in that moment. It’s as if he has gone far away again. It’s so familiar, that stranger.

Me before Volume 7 : I heard about Merlin Hermes. I really wanna get to that part soon.. he looks very cool. Shame I heard he gets the least screen time out of all Klein’s personas.

Me reading Vol 7 rn : MERLÍN HERMES!!! Does he get another chapter.. YES MERLIN HERMES!! Oh dear mysterious Miracle Invoker, Mr.Fully Automated Wishing Machine, the wandering magician, oh finally you have shown up. Every chapter with Merlin Hermes is pure joy. Everything about him is immaculate. Yes I am very biased.

Something about Klein having to meticulously put on masks all the time, to have to restrain many of his habits as Gehrman Sparrow, to act like a high society member (and act like someone twice his actual age) as Dwayne Dantes. I’m just happy to see him smile when he wants, make witty comments, act mysterious but also be cheery, make a difference in some peoples’ lives, and overall just enjoying the joy in life right now. After everything in Volume 6, he should just enjoy life like this. Honestly, I wish we could get more scenes of him going out and eating delicacies more often, but then I realize he’s now Seq 2 and eating is no longer a necessity. But I guess he can always summon them.. in any case it pains me a little to know that when the one opportunity arises where he can just chill out, he no longer can enjoy it like he used to, and even that period of time as Sherlock Moriarty and Nighthawk Klein Moretti was extremely short and fleeting. Like, imagine you’re someone who likes to eat and taste random food, but life simply doesn’t allow you to do it often because you keep running into danger, and after that you constantly have to be mindful of your diets to accompany your different personas, then the opportunity finally arrives that you no longer have to abide by those personas’ specially crafted diets now, only to remember you are now someone who doesn’t feel hungry anymore. That also applies to other stuff like general entertainment, etc etc. What would a theatre show seem like to the greatest actor? What would a circus show appear to a Miracle Invoker? Merlin Hermes feels like an honest persona, but with a sense of disconnection and loneliness lying underneath.
