Could I Just Say Something Real Quick?
Could I just say something real quick?
It’s all coming. Whatever you’re starving for, whatever that ache is that stings your bones, it’s coming. The love, the happiness, the adventures, and the creativity that you are seeking, it is all coming for you. Here’s the thing, don’t let your right now get away. The things you find mundane, keep them. Store them in the pocket of your favorite coat like found pennies. They aren’t futile. Do not let them cause you to feel empty and hollow. They are going to be worthwhile. Keep the hunger for what is coming, but please, keep a tight grip on these little ordinary moments that are happening right now, because they – these tiny pieces of this ordinary affair you find yourself in – are the foundation to your extraordinary. And I promise you, if you begin to recognize your right now, you’ll see your extraordinary coming.

He plops his bottom down in the sand, spreading his legs and opening his arms for her. He grabbed her cup of hot chocolate while she dropped to her knees and used her hands to brace herself. She crawled, sitting down between his legs and falling back against him. She took back her cup as he wrapped his arms around her, swaying them from side to side while exchanging giggles.
They had arrived just on time for the sun to begin setting. The drone show would begin soon, and they would have a perfect view of the entire thing.
He let go of her with one arm, pulling his scarf out from under his coat and unraveling the tie. He tried to squish them together as tight as he could, flipping the scarf over her. He crossed one side over the other, making a scarf for both of them.
“Warm enough?” He kissed the side of her head that was covered by her beanie. Then he rested his chin on her shoulder.
“Yes, love. I don’t even feel that cold.” She threw her head back in an attempt to show him some affection from the absence of her hands. “You?”
“My butt’s cold.”
Eden snorted and he could feel her entire body shake as she laughed. “You know what the cure for a cold butt is?”
He read her mind completely. “A hot bubble bath?”
“Absolutely.” She clicked her tongue, biting her lip because he knew her so well. “What was your favorite part from today?”
“You.” He said with no hesitation.
“Other than me.”
“That chocolate cake was really good, I liked that.”
She chuckled, nodding along with him. “Yeah, that cake was really good.” Eden pressed her lips to the cup, slowly sipping to make sure she didn’t burn her tongue. The hot chocolate was at the perfect temperature and was so rich. “Mmm, try it.”
She directed the cup towards him, watching him blow into the little opening on the lid before sipping. He enjoyed it as well, humming in delight.
Seokmin handed it back to her and she took another sip before pressing it down in the sand, making sure it didn’t fall over.
She craned her neck upwards, kissing him on the jaw. Then she started digging through her bag to find his birthday present. She had already given him his valentines gift last night so the anticipation for this was eating away at her.
Except she couldn’t find the little cassette player she purchased for the special occasion. She must have forgotten to get it out of her luggage. She sighed, pressing her palm to her forehead.
“What’s wrong?” He brushed her hair behind her ear, pressing his lips to it.
“Well, I was gonna give you your birthday present but I forgot another part of it at the bnb.” Her shoulders slumped, wanting to hit herself on the head. But she was too antsy to just wait to give it to him when she had all the parts together. So this would have to do.
Eden distanced herself from him, the scarf coming undone and scooting around on her tush to get a better look at him. She pulled the wrapped present from her bag. It was red with white ribbon wrapped around it, the words ‘From yours, with love’ written in cursive in a black sharpie.
“Happy birthday, my love.” She held it out for him with both of her hands, the corners of her lips twitching to hide her smile.
His eyes lit up with wonder, holding the starry night sky in them. It was tiny but he knew without a doubt that it was one of a kind, so he had to handle it with care. He took it like he was holding a baby puppy, causing her to laugh.
“Open it, then I’ll tell you what I forgot.” Her anxiety increased so she readjusted and chose to sit on her legs.
Seokmin untied the shiny white ribbon, carefully pulling off the pieces of tape he found so he could save the wrapping paper. Anything she touched or wrote on was precious to him.
He stared down at the cassette tape, the word ‘Always’ in Eden’s cursive written on the middle of it where the label was.
His smile was already so wide, as it always is. He traced his fingers over the wheels and notches, looking up at her and waiting.
She folded her hands together, struggling to find words to explain herself. “So I… I had bought a cassette tape for it but I left it in my luggage at the house so you’ll have to wait to listen to it. Sorry.”
Seokmin leaned forward, pecking her on the lips as he beamed down at her gift.
“It’s over an hour long of songs I’ve written, demos I’ve recorded on my audio app, some melodie’s that come to me, random words and poems I’ve written. All that I’ve done while thinking of you, writing about you and for you.”
Eden watches as he clutches his heart, his eyes wide and his mouth wide open. “E…”
“You’re my biggest inspiration, and now that I finally have the freedom to do what I want, I thought you should be the one that hears it first, in its purest form.” She looks at the tape in his hands. “I used the guitar you got me in some of them, and I still only know the basic chords so it’s not much but–“
“I love it, Eden.” Seokmin sounds unsteady, so Eden’s gaze shoots straight up to his face and his eyes are glassy. “Seriously, it’s perfect.”
She pushes her bottom lip out in a pout, reaching her hand out and wiping away his tears before they can fall down his face. “But you haven’t listened to it yet.”
“It doesn’t matter.” He takes her hand, keeping it cupped to his cheek. “Anything written by you is perfect. Your voice is such a treasure. Anything created by you is beautiful and precious.”
She tilts her head, her pout intensifying as she steps over to him on her knees, kissing him. Seokmin holds the tape close to him, his lips moving along with hers. She pulls away, her thumb swiping over his mole as she smiles, trying to keep her own tears at bay.
“I’m glad I can finally share some with you. Just know that there’s plenty more and this isn’t even a fraction of it.” She scans his face, grinning at him. “Because I love you so much.”
“I love you. I can’t wait to listen to this.” He turns his head to kiss the inside of her wrist.
Eden nods. “Okay, but don’t listen to it in front of me.”
“Why not?” He whines, pouting and slouching his shoulders.
“I just…it makes me feel vulnerable.”
“You know I love everything you have a hand in making. But if it’ll ease your mind, I’ll just wait til you fall asleep.” He smirked, sticking out his tongue. She covers her face with her hands, shaking her head as he laughs.
“Fine.” She falls back to sit on her legs, resting her hand on his knee.
He stores the tape, along with the wrapping paper in his cross bag, seeing his own birthday present for her.
“I also have your birthday present right here,” He dug into a pocket in the inside of his bag, revealing a box.
“Seok, you can’t keep getting me jewelry.” She tilts her head with a pout, her eyes softening.
He took her comment into consideration, knowing he would not listen whatsoever.
“At this rate, you’ll be buying wedding bands next year.” She joked.
“Is that something you’re hoping for next year?” He joked right back.
“No, no, no! Of course, I hope for it. But not next year… whenever we’re both ready and have discussed settling down.” She stumbled over her words, panicking. She didn’t want to make him feel rushed, knowing how dedicated he was to his members. She wasn’t quite sure if she was ready yet either.
“Don’t worry, it’s not jewelry.” He smirked, leaning forward to give her a peck. “It’s even better.”
She widened her eyes. “Better than jewelry?” She couldn’t imagine anything better than jewelry in the tiny little box he was holding. Nothing else came to her mind of what it could be.
He tilted his head with a grin.
“Let’s see it.” She smiled, scooting to sit beside him with her bottom flat on the sand. She leaned her weight on one hand, watching his face.
“The second we left last year, I was already thinking about what to get you this year,” Seokmin rotated the box in his palm, growing nervous. “It’s pretty hard to top promise rings.” He stuck up his ring finger, making her chuckle.
“Very hard.” She stuck hers up as well, interlocking their fingers together.
“And you’re probably right, we would be writing out our vows earlier than expected if we kept up our gifts each year.”
Eden grew more antsy as he continued on, having trouble imagining what could possibly be sitting in the box.
He gently grabbed her hand, placing the velvety box on her palm and leaving her to it. She looked down, then back up at him.
“Go ahead.” He pushed her hair behind her shoulder, leaning in to press his warm lips below her ear.
She wasn’t sure if she could actually open it herself with how her hands were shaking. With his eyes on her and her heart close to beating out of her chest, she got over herself and opened the box.
Much like the box last year, a light shone onto the silver brass key. A key.
Her mind went into overdrive, thinking of everything but the actual thing the key was made for.
“You didn’t…fish our love lock out of the river, did you?” Eden turned her head to him slowly, her eyes bulging.
“No, baby! No, of course not!” He wrapped his arms around her. “Our key and the lock still remain in that river in Paris. They’ll always be in that river. They’re never going anywhere. I promise.”
“Okay, okay.” She pressed her free hand to her chest, feeling her cheeks heat up from embarrassment. It was an irrational fear of hers. “Where does the key go?
He smiled, letting out a tiny snort before reaching up and kissing her temple. He picks the key out of the luxurious box and runs his fingers along the engravings.
“You remember the loft we looked at a few months ago? The one with a full kitchen, and the bathtub with the glass roof? You loved it.”
The moment he says the word ‘apartment’ everything snaps into place. She whips her head to him, her jaw hanging open. “Seokmin.”
“This is the key—though we probably won’t use it much because there’s a keypad and whatnot. But just in case we get locked out, we have it.” He hands the key to her.
“You’re saying…” She looks at it in disbelief. Tears begin to well up in her eyes.
“It's been waiting for us for a couple weeks now.” He rests his chin on her shoulder, smiling.
“It’s ours?” Her vision blurs through the tears, but she can still see the nod of his head.
“It’s ours.”
Eden lets out a cry, smiling and looking up toward the sky, letting the tears make their way down her cheek and neck. Even as she cries, her feelings are only that of happiness. She is happy. Elated. She launches herself at him, going down with him against the sand as she hugs him. He was unexpecting, laughing as he wraps one arm around her waist.
“I don’t know what to say!” She squeals into his neck, using her hands to lift herself off of him. She hovers over him. “It’s really ours?”
“Yes!”
She starts to attack him with kisses. Several on his forehead, many across both of his cheeks, his nose and eyelids, leaving pecks on top of his lips. He giggles, taking it all in stride. “I’m so happy, Seok. This is perfect. Thank you.”
“I told you, anything you want, I’ll make it happen for you.” He strokes her cheek. “You, me, and our home.”
The word ‘home’ floats on the tip of her tongue, staring down into his eyes with adoration. “Have you been staying there by yourself?”
“I move in some of my things when I have the time, but I’m not gonna stay or sleep there until you’re with me.”
She pouts, feeling her heart ache. “Awe, sweetie.” She caresses his cheek with her hand, her thumb holding the key in place on her palm. “Can we go see it when we get back?”
“Of course.” He stretches his neck up to kiss her.
Eden giggled again, kissing him back and a few more times for good measure. “I love you! I love it.” She raises her hand, holding the key between her fingers and eyeing it. “I love this.” She presses the key to her lips before leaning down and kissing him once more. Harder and Deeper.
“I love you, and I am ready to make a home of our own.”
