JJK1 GOLDEN - SUPPORT

In defense of Jungkook, I’m actually really excited for Golden, I know there has been a lot of discourse on how his promotions have gone, and how that is an unfair treatment to the other members, and I think what we forget on these spaces is that everyone will have opinions, some (personally for me), some are valid while others are not.
And while we countdown the days until Golden is released there seems to be 2 sides to the matter, 1. Jungkook is privileged and he’s favored, 2. Jungkook deserves to shine, and because of these super polar views, rarely do we meet in the middle. So, I hope this post meets somewhere in the middle.
I’m going to mention Jimin in this post so we can move on from this discussion and just focus on Jungkook and Golden. The thing is, it pains me greatly whenever I see people comparing Jimin’s FACE release to the other members. Do I think that Jimin was sabotaged by Billboard? Yes I do - allegedly (y’all aren’t going to sue me over an opinion piece lol) I think the treatment from the western industry and the way they undermined his success in such a blatant way was not only a form of racism, but it was also as a way to teach foreign artists a lessons “you can’t succeed unless we tell you you can succeed”.
Jimin had disadvantages, and it’s something that we’ll focus on when he releases another album, because that’s the thing about being ARMY, we acknowledge that the members are climbing up a mountain, and for every setback they put unto the guys, we only come back stronger, and every time we’ve made sure to persevere. And I think that’s something that a lot of new ARMY doesn’t realize. That because Dynamite, & Butter were easy feats, all releases must be like that, but that’s not true.
I know people try to dismiss my POV because I am veteran army, but the fact is that before Dynamite era these were the things we were already dealing with. So, it’s not to say we’re used to it, but it is meant to point out that while people continue to focus on the now, meanwhile so many of us are already planning for the future. That’s what I meant when I said people need to get over it, not as a way to dismiss the members, but focusing on the past, something we cannot change, IS going to make someone burn out, and it’s going to make people resentful, and put their anger on the members when it’s not their fault.
Because why blame someone for being at a disadvantage when they’re going against an entire system that is set on favoritism. And that’s what I’ve been trying to share with new ARMY, you can hold on to these things, but don’t let these things ruin your experience.
IT’S A MARATHON NOT A SPRINT
Remember that.
So, when I say, we’re used to fighting with Radio, it doesn’t mean that there haven’t been any improvements, because we have broken that barrier, and while we still deal with issues, we’re now one step closer than we used to be. When we say that we’re proud of the guy’s Billboard placement, what I mean is, even if they land in the hot 100 - 73, 80, 50, that’s not to say we shouldn’t work harder, but it’s meant to highlight that BTS were the first to do it, that we broke that wall, so much so, that they’re now getting #1’s, and yet we will continue to face adversity because this has been an industry that has been against BTS and ARMY since day 1. But that doesn’t mean that they will be able to stop us from having the guys succeed.
And that’s why it pains me when people say “but Jimin” because you’re setting my bias up without realizing it. You’re putting his disadvantages unto the other members when you don’t realize that the other members have had disadvantages of their own. Especially when you are using Jimin to compare, and pit against the other members, because it continues to show that people don’t see BTS as a team, which is how they’ve been able to get here in the first place. Together.
(Water bottle teamwork run ep 117)
They are not each other’s competition, they are each other’s success, individual and as a team, their singular focus - because they’ve told us that - is to make sure they succeed together. So please I fucking beg, stop comparing their successes, their losses, and their differences against the other, because frankly it is a form of racist micro aggression. I’d rather compare Jimin’s lack of support to 0livia r0drigo because she is someone under Geffen who has been used as a weapon against BTS all the meanwhile BTS are under their label for their US distribution. That’s who we should focus on, because why didn’t Geffen send Like Crazy to radio? But they have propped up OR as the ultimate artist when she can’t even sell out tours.
Exactly.
Ok moving on.
GOLDEN solo discussion.
The first thing is the songs, people have been saying it’s too westernized, that he’s hungry to succeed, and all of this nonsense, when I genuinely don’t see the problem with that. Shouldn’t we want all of our artists to succeed?
The problem with this solo era is that people think that this is how it’s going to be from now on, when it’s not, yes, they’re working on individual projects, but their main goal is to come back together. So, while they succeed and reach these heights, none of that will make them think they’re better than each other, so why do we place those thoughts unto the guys.
Especially when we’ve seen them congratulate each other, how we’ve seen them support one another, and be there. I think back to Yoongi’s last concert and how Hobi, Joon, and Jin were there, the Hyung line are the Pillars of that group, not because they’re older, but because they instilled that Family first mentality in all of them, that was incredibly supported by Jimin - the heart of BTS - and that’s why they’re different. Seeing Jin jumping around and singing along to Yoongi’s songs, was the exact proof we needed for all of us to know that these guys are going to love and support one another no matter what.
Because they’ve experienced the disadvantages the industry has enforced on them, they’ve seen each other at their lowest and at their highest. If there’s one thing about BTS that people still don’t get it’s that they’re a family, no matter what. And that is why they’ve been able to succeed more than any other group, because they all understand their roles, their parts and they put 110% in, for themselves and for each other.
I also don’t know how many times I have to keep saying this and how many times I’ve been proven right, (look up my PROOF & A GOODBYE ALBUM POST) from the very beginning I have said that this is a step Bangtan needed to take because you could tell how hard they have worked for themselves to the point where Joon even mentioned not being passionate about music anymore.
He went from being a singular person who wanted to pursue his passion of music, to a leader, to a UN rep, and all of these things, to the point where he did feel burned out. I’ve mentioned so many times that before BTS the guys had lived their life outside of the entertainment industry, and that’s rare, which I still don’t think people comprehend. They didn’t join agencies to be the greatest of all time, they joined a small ass agency so that they could make the music they wanted. These solo projects were meant to give them the freedom to live their life again, to experience things, to feel what it’s like to be human, to be Kim Namjoon from Illsan, and not RM.
GOLDEN'S BACKGROUND
Which brings me to point out FESTA 2018 - there were so many things that were shared during that FESTA that confirmed a lot of what we already suspected, the feeling of burnout BTS had experienced, the division and thoughts of going their own separate way.
But the most important thing that stood out to me was Jungkook, Tae and Yoongi. I know stkkrs like to use the moment Yoongi texted both Tae and Jk as a way to prove their delusionship, when they continue to not only make fools of themselves, but also dismiss the importance of that conversation.
That both Jungkook AND tae were thinking of leaving, which is why we have that moment in MAMA where they were comforting one another. That wasn’t romance, that wasn’t something that should have seen as them wanting to leave the group to support their “queership”. All of those moments boiled down to what Jungkook and Tae have even told us now, that they went through shit, they wanted to leave and enjoy their youth, because, and I’ve said this before, Jungkook really did give us his entire youth. Being the youngest member, he was forced to grow up and think like an adult when it came to making decisions, he was thrust into the spotlight and sexua1ized by his “fans” from an early age. Tae even though he was 2 years older than JK, also came from a very different world, where he was sheltered, where he was a simple and chill kind of guy, full of wonderment.
And what people fail to realize is the reason why both Tae and JK gravitated towards Jimin was because Jimin was an older soul despite his age. He’s a caretaker, he is warmth and safety, and that doesn’t just apply to the maknae line, because we’ve heard from the Hyung line how Jimin is their older younger brother, how he’s been able to help them and give them advice and strength during their toughest times. And yet people try to minimize his bonds as something minor like a ship.
What people don’t realize is that there is a difference in behavior from BTS and JK. Jimin is paired with everyone because people confuse his kindness and sincerity and instead think that there’s something inherently deeper than brotherhood. But the only person Jimin has proven to be more with is Jungkook, and that is why people try and diminish their bond the most, because there IS something there that breaches the surface. But you know, people are going to see what they want to see, regardless of what’s in front of them.
I DIGRESS
Going back to Tae, JK, and Yoongi. The fact that Yoongi reached out to both of them, knowing what we know now, of the demons he was battling, the walls he had built up to protect himself and the members, he put those walls down, and reached out to the youngest ones. Who were probably in the same place as he was emotionally, was able to provide comfort for them, and thus was able to ask them to reconsider leaving. Say what you want to say about Yoongi, but he’s a fucking Pisces, and one thing we’re always going to do is help, love, support those in need. Even though were often cold, blunt, and direct, I think it’s a disservice to not acknowledge that when we love we love intensely. And Yoongi loves all of those guys, deeply.
And so, it wasn’t surprising to me to hear that both JK and Tae were prolonging their debut of their albums. I mean, we’ve been talking about JJK1 and KHT1 since 2019 *crying*. And we would have gotten JJK1 sooner, but as you all saw the sabotage and campaign against him from a few weeks ago, the same was done to him back in 2019. We want to talk about sabotage. Jungkook literally scrapped Decalcomania and every other song after everything that happened from Sept 2019 – April 2020, and yet people refuse the acknowledge the shit he went through all because he wanted to release an album. Those attacks come from somewhere, and some might say antis, but to have that influence, to have that power to attempt to assassinate someone’s character comes from somewhere much higher than just random social media accounts. And that’s not a conspiracy, considering we’ve seen and heard people coming out and confirming that they do get paid to ruin someone’s upcoming album.
GOLDEN'S LYRICS
And since then, Jungkook has been hesitant to release his album, and you know what, I don’t blame him. Imagine having the whole world watching you, your every move, breathing down your back, and anticipating your first solo album, that’s fucking scary to have that much pressure. And you don’t know if people are going to misconstrue your words, twist them, and use them against you, and readily critique you and dismiss you as an artist.
I think people forget of these pressures, and it’s so easy for us to judge when we sit behind our screens, and the whole world isn’t a witness to our trials and turbulations, we have the anonymity to remain private, but BTS don’t have that. Anything BTS does will be under the watchful eye of not only their fans, but the industry, and I think that’s something we really need to consider when we have these conversations, because we’re not privy to the things that go on behind the scenes, and to assume one’s character based on limited information is very accusatory in my humble opinion. Because how would you react if you too were under the microscope. During Festa 2020 jungkook mentioned releasing his album which prompted Joonie and the guys to tell him to just do it, just release it, even if it’s not perfect, you’ll be happy you let it out. The thing is that since 2020 Jungkook has gone through a complete transformation – something I discuss in his upcoming JJK post.
That if BTS are going on a chapter 2 journey, Jungkook is going onto the next book of his life.
He has been the person I’ve seen in the past few years completely change, and not in a bad way, but in a way, that makes me proud of him, to root for him, to be there to support him and readily call him my artist. He went from being shy and constantly doubting himself to who he is now, self-assured, confident, and ready to take on the world. This is what I’ve been waiting for with Jungkook, for him to see himself in the way so many of us have seen him.
So, I’m not about to start doubting him and berating him and using Jimin’s disadvantages to minimize his own journey and growth. Because I could say that while Jimin had a non-scandalous release, Jungkook did, but that wouldn’t solve anything, it wouldn’t fix what Jimin went through, and it wouldn’t absolve of how traumatic it is to constantly worry that people are stalking you and violating your privacy.
How he hasn’t gone crazy, paranoid is beyond me, so the last thing I want to do as a BTS fan is to judge him for something that he is ready to conquer on his own.
And the discussion of him not writing his lyrics and what not is just……. I’m going to try and share my POV the best I can. Even though he has chosen to release songs that he didn’t write, it doesn’t mean that they’re not songs that come from the heart. Pretty hurts by Beyonce were written by Sia, this song is so poignant, so beautiful and clearly, it’s a song that resonated with Beyonce to a point where she added it to her album.
Does that mean I’m going to come after Beyonce for not writing that? Your bananas if you think I’m about to critique Bey. Because that still has meaning, SHE gave birth to the way the song is portrayed, her vocals give you feeling, they carry you past what’s written on a page.
And as my spousy said “the moment jungkook picks up his pen it’ll be over for all of them” and honestly TRUTH. @marengogo
The same guy who wrote Decalcomania, is there and he’s not scared to pick up his pen so let’s not say it’s because of that, but if BTS’ chapter 2 is a journey of self-exploration, then who the fuck are we to condemn Jungkook for the way he chooses to share his first ever album.
Tae got the same heat for his album release, that he didn’t write his lyrics and blah blah blah, but we can’t deny that he did have direct control of his release, the way he promoted it, the messages he wanted to share, and the thing is, that even if he didn’t write the songs, he still chose them, gave them direction and life. Creative control in other forms, because this isn’t the end, this is just the beginning, it’s the foundation of what’s to come for him.
And it’s the same for Jungkook. IDGAF if people think they have a sense of opinion of his album simply because he didn’t write the lyrics, because it doesn’t minimize the hard work he’s put forth. And we see it, we hear it from the members, we hear it from him of how tired he is, how hard he’s working, how busy he is, and we can see the fact that he IS in control, he’s the decision maker, and I think that’s important to remember. And him making these choices doesn’t diminish who he is as an artist.
In fact, it’s the opposite, Jungkook is a thrill seeker, and if this is how JJK1 is going to be released, then hand me a parachute, bestie, I’m skydiving with Jungkook if that’s what he wants.
Because we should support him, because we should hope for his and the members success, we should be happy for him, despite the unrealistic standards that people put unto him and the members, Jungkook is allowed to explore his own sound color, because artistically that is what he wants. And as a fellow artist I’m not going to bash him for choosing a different medium.
The fact of the matter is that doing something like this takes courage, and it takes strength and if Jungkook is ready to show the world that he matters, that he’s talented, that this is his color, then fuck, I can’t help but stand up and applaud him for taking that step that so many of us are scared to take.
And that’s what makes him GOLDEN.
The potato worked its magic! Thank you 🙌🏼🙏🏼🥔
