The Internet Needs You

 The Internet Needs You

🚨 The internet needs you 🚨

You’re up again, Tumblr.

Back in 2015 you demanded that the FCC adopt strict net neutrality rules and establish a free and open internet. And you won.

That should’ve been the end of it. But apparently not.

The new head of the FCC wants to undo the net neutrality protections you fought so hard for.

His proposed changes open the door to your web traffic being slowed down, or even blocked altogether. You could be forced to pay extra to use your favorite apps. You could even be prevented from getting news from the sources you trust.

Title II protects consumers and democracy by ensuring all voices can be heard.

You know the drill. Here’s what to do:

The FCC is taking comments from the public, and dearfcc.org is making it as simple as possible for you to make your voice heard.

Go there now 👉 dearfcc.org ✌️

You’ll just need to provide a name, an address, and then say a little bit about why rolling back Title II protections is a bad idea. If you’re not quite sure what to write, here’s something to get you started:

I’m writing to urge you to keep our Open Internet rules based on Title II in place. Without them, we could lose the internet as we know it.

The proposed changes to FCC rules would allow fast lanes for sites that pay, and force everyone else into slow lanes. We’ve already seen access to streaming services like Netflix, popular games like League of Legends, and communication platforms like FaceTime slowed down, or even blocked. Conditions like this hurt businesses large and small, and penalize the users who patronize them.

The changes also open the door to unfair taxes on internet users, and could also make it harder for blogs, nonprofits, artists, and others who can’t pay up to have their voices heard.

Please leave the existing existing net neutrality rules based on Title II in place.

Thank you!

If you need more ammo, feel free to quote these experts from our net neutrality Issue Time. TechCrunch and Battle for the Net also have some good starters.

Everyone is counting on everyone else here. Do your part and tell the FCC to keep a free and open internet under Title II.

I wish this was posted on the front page of fanfiction sites. Everytime I go chapters without a single comment, I just want to say fuck it- no one's reading my work- why should I keep posting?

okay just got done typing up a Long Ass Comment for a fic that i love and bc writers Live™ for comments but a lot of ppl seem to find it difficult/scary to write them, here are some tips from me, who has been on both sides of the fence:

we will nut over literally any context for how u read our fics, nothing is too specific or embarrassing

i once received a long ass essay about the exact circumstances under which someone read the new chapter including action and dialogue and i still treasure that comment to this day

if u read the fic a few days ago and are still thinking about it, open that bitch up and tell the author “i read this fic a few days ago and i’m still thinking about it”

THAT SHIT KILLS US I SWEAR

do not worry about being annoying!!!!! oh my god i can’t overstate this enough you are NEVER being annoying by leaving comments. examples of situations in which comments are Not Annoying:

commenting on every chapter

this is honestly our fav thing, those regular commenters are the real MVPs and i’d die for them. it doesn’t seem thirsty or obnoxious to us it’s our lifeblood i pr omi s e u

also this is guaranteed the #1 best way to get senpai to notice u, if that’s what ur after

adding an extra comment w a thought/detail u missed

adding an extra comment w a thought/detail u remembered from 4 chapters ago

commenting during a reread (this is only ever flattering!!!)

commenting an 800-word essay that takes several solid minutes to read

this seriously never comes across as irritating, time-consuming, or trying too hard; the author is the one who wrote thousands upon thousands of words in the first place and we eat that shit up

(ok i lied, there is one exception to this. the one thing that is annoying is demanding updates, especially if u do it on the same day as an update was published. this makes us sad, avoid this :c)

but aside from that: comments, great, always!!!

acknowledge how hard writers work. every time someone tips their hat to me for the effort i put in, it’s like the 12 hour binges, inability to think about anything else even while sleeping, longggg inspiration walks, and constant self doubt become worth it!!!!

let us know u talk about our fics w ur friends…. this is like, the ultimate compliment……… i’m still lowkey waiting for the day someone pastes an excerpt from a chat log they’ve had about one of my fics because i Know it has happened and i wanna see it……………i wanna know what has been yelled……………..

just say thank u!!! a simple thank you means so much more bc it shows us we have actual readers and not just numbers on a screen sfjdgslksg

God, this hits close to home. A lot of my dad's family spent my childhood refusing to acknowledge that I'm half white (I don't pay them any mind now). "Oh, you're black, she's black, look at that hair- black." Uh... HALF black...

"In the future..."

"In The Future..."

“… … … … … … … …what future?”

A companion piece to this

"In The Future..."

Just some concept art for a fanfic I’m working on. It’s hard to color burns with pencils…

Heh… You know how in Birthright, Corrin watches Gunther- the man who raised them, the man who devoted himself to making their life as un-shitty as possible- die in a traumatic way, and gets really angry for about all of five seconds and then just forgets about it? You know how they don’t waste one second mourning, or mentioning it to someone else who might care (like Jakob, the other person Gunther raised), or even remembering him at all until the very end of the game where they’re like, “oh yeah, and that asshole Hans killed what’s-his-face, too! Fuck that asshole!” but then immediately forgets him again?

Yeah. Fuck that asshole.

Or, how my mind works- "get so engrossed, you forget to save, then lose everything when your program crashes. Work for hours straight, neglecting sleep. Assume every nice thing someone says is a lie, and only the critisism is sincere. Get discouraged and give up. As soon as you spot one mistake, say fuck it and scrap everything."
