I have outdone myself. A friend’s birthday request was “draw me something”. Gift cards are easier!
Not posted: the stack of paper comprising rejects, failures, and frustration.
Still. Two smallish posters of stylized mermaids. I’m happy, the friend is happy, everyone is happy.
Pros: the design, the composition, the seaweed/kelp/water salad things that turned out nicer than I’d hoped, and the seashells. Also, I like my little turtle in the bottom there. Even the actually last minute addition of coral and rocks in the corner was a good idea that turned out very nice.
Cons: I cannot yet draw hands or the proportions of arms. Oddly, the proportions of faces are odd too; how far apart are the lips from the nose, anyway?

Practicing human forms and clothing, but it always looks so stiff and flat... Fashion pieces inspired by an old magazine.

Media: sharpie pen
Image: woman applying lipstick while looking at a reflection.
Drawing practice by finding a picture online and trying to redraw it. Hands practice by trying to draw hands in flexed positions. Why are fingers so weird-looking?

Media: sharpie pen and prismacolour pencils.
I used a Google Stock Image to practice dynamic poses! And then decided to turn it into the familiar character of Stephanie Meanswell. Except for the fact that the stock photo and the Lazytown character have different outfits OH WELL.
I like it.
Need to practice:
1) hands. Cannot get away with mitten hands forever. Or can I?
2) sneakers. Did not realize sneakers would be hard to draw.
How does a microgravity garden grow when there’s no up or down? An advanced chamber, about the size of a mini-fridge, is giving us a clearer perspective of plant growth habits. Without gravity and the addition of a wide variety of light and humidity settings, the plants cultivated on the International Space Station provide a world of opportunity to study space-based agricultural cycles.
