In Kirby’s Return To Dreamland, Meta Knight has a move identical to that, with the two slashes and the spin. The morpho butterfly appears in the start and end cutscenes in return to dreamland. Maybe he replicates Meta Knights sword because that’s just how he’s seen it done most often?
