One night, Mel decides to go to a party without Curt, despite his objections. Curt's paranoia gets the best of him, and he shows up at the party, causing a scene. He accuses Mel of cheating on him with Luke, which is untrue at this point. In front of all their friends, Curt lashes out, embarrassing her. This is the final straw for Mel. She realizes she cannot stay in a relationship that controls and belittles her. She breaks up with Curt, telling him she needs space to figure herself out and that his jealousy has crossed too many lines.
