HAPPY FIRST EVER INTERNATIONAL AROMANTIC VISIBILITY DAY
Ok guide on how to portray mobility aids bc I saw someone drawing a person missing a leg(without prosthesis) and using a cane as a replacement and honestly I almost laughed so here it is.
Canes: used to compensate for impaired mobility like muscle weakness or impairments such as a prosthetic leg. Usually used on opposite side of impairment, can be used on same side, also can be used in pairs. Cane gets put down at same time as impaired leg, if used in pairs, use same as opposite side cane. Multiple types of canes so determine which is best
Crutches(underarm and forearm): both can be used one at a time in a similar manner to a cane with more support. Can swing-to on crutches. Underarm crutches are like those hospital ones you get when you injure a leg, forearm crutches wrap around your above the elbow and have an open grip for your hand. They can be used to walk assisted in the same way as a cane.
Transport wheelchairs: not a lot of independence as it has to be pushed by another person. The wheels are small
Manual wheelchairs: allow for increased independence. Have large back wheels, often with a grip bar for less injury. They often have push handles in the back in case somebody needs to push the user's chair for them. They can have an boost added to them for increased power on uphill drives.
Power wheelchairs: driven by joystick, have smaller wheels like a transport chair. Some may have the ability to switch to a transport chair, and these ones often have handles in the back. They are heavier and bulkier then aforementioned aids, good for severely impaired mobility.

idk how much this made the news in the Americas but the Hellenic coast guard watched as a vessel carrying more than 400 (some estimates say 700) migrants capsized and sank in the Mediterranean. 104 people survived. official death toll is 79 because the rest is missing, and might never be found. There are claims that many children were below deck.
Frontex and the Hellenic Coast Guard was aware of the vessel and the dangerous situation it was in for days, but did not intervene
