Also, It Directly Follows Him Bragging About How He'd Never Been Touched By A Blade Before. It Leaves

Also, it directly follows him bragging about how he'd never been touched by a blade before. It leaves a scar through the whole movie. It's genuinely an amazing moment in an amazing movie.

I can't fanthom to explain you in full how much of a significant moment this is in animation

I Can't Fanthom To Explain You In Full How Much Of A Significant Moment This Is In Animation

You don't show blood in animated films, it's like almost a taboo thing. You can show characters getting beat up and bruised but never bleeding. It defies all corporate beliefs of making it a "kids movie". Even GDT's Pinocchio which has fucking nazis in it and guns shooting people never showed blood in it. It's just that sacred of a thing in animation that studios never cross.

But Puss in Boots, they showed it. Not only that, you get a fucking close up on it. Do you know how rare that is? The people who made it probably fought every tooth and nail to get this moment approved, because this is unprecedented in this industry. You don't show actual blood bleeding I cant stress how much this is such a nono in this industry.

But for this moment it's perfect, the inevitability of death in Puss in Boot's eyes, the amount of risk the studio took to get this moment in the film approved, shows how much DreamWorks really cares and wants this movie to not just be another haha kids film but for the adults watching it, the people who have seen the world and fear death, those with anxiety, get panic attacks, unsure about life the universe, getting married, being a family. These aren't ideas catered to kids.

Everytime I've seen people be like "oh studios need to stop making boring ass animations and actually make a film about serious topics and have better animation and care about the movie" THIS IS IT FOLKS. A STUDIO LISTENED AND IT'S OUT HERE IN YOUR FACE.

So seriously go watch Puss in Boots. It's incredible and you're missing out on something beautiful if you don't.

honestly i don't trust any argument that hinges on "this surgery is GROSS and HORRIFIC and MUTILATING!" because that is every fucking surgery. surgery is gross. it involves cutting people open and doing stuff to parts of the body that was never meant to have stuff done to it. and surgery recovery is frequently an ordeal and can involve nasty stuff that sucks to look at. thats just how surgery works. if someone's body being cut open and messed around with and sewn up, and recovering bruised and bloody and having to drain pus is grounds for something being horrific mutilation, then pretty much every surgery is mutilation. there is a reason why doctors generally don't judge the merits of a surgery on how gross it looks and instead focus on silly little things like "how safe is it to perform" and "how much does it improve the patient's life". do not trust anyone who wants you to think a surgery is bad just because its upsetting to hear the gory details about how its performed (especially if they are Not A Doctor)

Man trauma is so weird. I saw a post where someone mentioned their boyfriend had the same name as one of my abusers boyfriend had, and I spent the next 10 minutes scanning their blog just to make sure I was safe to like their post in case they showed up on my blog again or saw me existing.

Literally one of those "wow, I'm not as over THAT as I thought I was" moments.

Is hating men literally just as bad as misogyny? No. Is thinking that every man you'll ever meet is secretly a rapist or a monster, despite being an understandable trauma response, healthy? No. Does this thinking inherently fit within a category of "punching up" and righteous fury? No. Does it almost inevitably contribute to the dehumanization and criminalization of men of color and trans people? Yes.
