Honestly, Hateposting About One's Favorite Worst Fictional Characters Should Come Back And Replace Anti
Honestly, hateposting about one's favorite worst fictional characters should come back and replace anti nonsense more. Shamelessly hating on the fictional characters who did terrible things in canon, or mildly bad but extremely annoying things in canon, or even just hit on your personal squick(s) in canon, can make for great catharsis, without all the stress of moralizing other people's opinions.
No hate for hating fiction, only hate for using personal opinions about fiction to decide whether or not other people are allowed to be Good People based on how closely they align to the things that the loudest self-defined Good Person in the room has chosen to like.
Sometimes I need to focus more on posting about things that bring me joy.
Other times I need to accept that it does in fact bring me joy to hatepost about the Cattons from Saltburn, because they are terrible fictional people who I love to hate.

It never would have made sense, in AtLA, for Aang to kill Ozai at the end. Not only because it wouldn't make sense for Aang's character, but also because it would have gone against one of the major themes in AtLA: that part of growing up is learning how to trust in and take responsibility for your own choices. It's something all the main characters have to grapple with, and it's one of the many ways that Zuko and Aang specifically are paralleled with each other through the show.
So when Aang goes off seeking counsel from prior Avatars, on a narrative level they have to advise him to kill Ozai, and he has to make and stand by his own choice for himself. It's one last attempt by Aang to foist the responsibility for his choice(s) as the Avatar off onto someone else - one of his central conflicts that he struggles with across all three seasons.
When he finally faces Ozai, however, he has to make his choice. Not the choice any of his friends would make, not even the choice other Avatars would make. And he has to accept that choice and face it head on. That last part is critical, too, and the reason why he almost fails to take Ozai's bending until he faces him directly, until he looks Ozai in the eyes and acknowledges the full scope of how he has chosen to end that battle.
He can seek counsel and listen to the views of others, but in the end he has to choose what actions he can live with in himself for himself.
I really do love when I get called a fujoshi because, like. Look, it's not a cool thing to call any gay trans guy, but with me in particular, it is REALLY apparent that that's just your catch-all insult for gay trans guys. Really obvious that you were just throwing some spaghetti at the wall and hoping it stuck. You didn't even look at my blog. There's not even real life guys kissing on here. Or anime guys not kissing. I was just talking to my spouse about anime boys I am capable of naming, and here is the full list: Goku, Sasuke, Naruto, etc. That's all of them. Ain't a holier-than-thou thing, either. Just not my scene. And it's also a thing where, like. Let's strip away the porn and romance parts of it. I didn't transition to be a twink. If you did, I am hootin' and hollerin' and crushing beer cans against my forehead, but I'm fat and hairy and covered in tattoos and I often find myself in a hunting supply store staring at the novelty T-shirts and thinking, "That's a solid pun and a beautiful wildlife painting. I can't pass up the opportunity to wear this to a chili cook-off or perhaps to a different hunting supply store." Just the way it worked out for me, you know? I think maybe if you asked the people who know me to rank things they'd be likely to find me doing, they would all put "gnawing on a human corpse buck naked on the side of the road" slightly above "rubbing one out to anime boys kissing". But yeah. I definitely transitioned because I want to pretend that I am Sasuke kissing Goku. That's what I'm up to for sure, you ribbonless county fair hog.

Comment Day is a celebration of leaving comments on beloved fic! We want both to tell the author what their work means to us, and to appreciate reflecting on works we enjoy! Commenting is a unique feature of fic reading, and we want to have fun with it.
I think one of the most dangerous things we can do is justify why we should treat marginalized people well. “Gay people aren’t just interested in sex” “people who use welfare often work multiple jobs” “some people are fat because of a health issue” I actually don’t care about any of these things. We shouldn’t be treating people inhumanly regardless, and that’s what we’re fighting for.
There are a lot of consistently repeated "facts" around tumblr that fall somewhere in this gradient—some of which are only corrected by actually crunching numbers, reading scientific papers, etc. Falling for misrepresented data isn't anyone’s fault, but it does mean that some things that "everyone knows" are straight up incorrect, because the source was written by someone who didn't understand what they were reporting on, or the subject was twisted to suit a narrative (for personal reasons, monetary gain, etc).
Meanwhile, SOME claims just don't have a real source at all.
Do you check sources before you repeat a factoid or spread a post?
