It’s okay that Fitz Vacker is flawed.
(Legacy Spoilers obviously)
I’ve seen a lot of salt posts lately... and I just want to say:
It’s okay that we have characters who represent human flaws. Fitz has some serious problems. Alden has some serious problems. Actually, I feel like the Kotlc villains could use MORE flaws. They’re not as evil as they are chalked up to be.
Characters with flaws help us learn to recognize behavior we should not emulate. They help us form an ideal of what is good by showing us the photo negative.
I ship Sokeefe. But let’s learn to appreciate that Fitz is willing to work on his Anger Issues. And yes-he’s selfish. And focused on his reputation. But he’s also seen it ruin a lot of people’s lives, and he knows that the gossip about a bad Vacker match will NEVER die. He also tends to not believe elven society can/should change. Sophie is opposite of him in this.
I think the real reason his anger/pride/issues with matchmaking and wanting to control Sophie hit us so hard is because Sophie has spent so many books thinking he is perfect. We’ve always known he’s not. But yeah...
So THANK YOU SHANNON for using flawed characters in your books. There is literally nothing worse that a too-perfect love interest.
