every day i see people online being needlessly cruel and hateful over the most pointless things and it only motivates me to be kinder and more understanding out of spite

love the phrase 'methinks'. me does think. thinketh me do.

babes you seen a contact lens? yeah i need it my third eye is a little nearsighted

This is just a general reminder that real, actual, human people do not exist in order to be good representation.

Real people are messy. Complicated. The products of their time and their culture. Influenced by their society and their class, their race and sex and gender. The amalgam of their childhood experiences. Prone to bias and mistake and inexplicable human oddness. And people live private lives with private thoughts and unknowable details that even the most ardent biographer will not be able to document.

And as soon as you try to take a real human person and turn them into "representation"- you have to sand off the edges and the bumps, you have to simplify and generalize their story to make it fit on an inspirational poster for whatever X history/heritage month you are trying to make.

Please be careful. History is not full of heroes and villains. It is full of people. People who lived full, complicated, and largely unknown lives. Their life doesn't have a theme or embody an ideology or stand as a model for others- it was just their life. All we can do is seek to understand them as best we can.
