Thinking About The Fact That Though Bastion Can Make All Kinds Of Mind Bending Venoms That Numb Or Even

Thinking about the fact that though Bastion can make all kinds of mind bending venoms that numb or even enhance pain. His initial bite is incredibly painful. Then thinking about the fact this man would absolutely care enough about Ida’s comfort to wrap his thumb in silk and let her bite down while he bit her.

Speaking of tragedies, both Bastion and Ida have family issues, which as someone whose biggest family issue is that my older brother never wants to have an ordinary discussion that doesn’t devolve into a condescending lecture is weird to try and write. Don’t get me wrong my family is far from perfect but we aren’t oh god call the police there’s been a murder. Levels of not perfect. Meanwhile my characters very much ARE from that kind of environment. Which is really hard to write without first hand experiences without wondering if shit is getting too melodramatic.

It’s ironic cause vore, horror and tragedy all thrive on melodrama. But I still kinda believe that there’s a threshold to these things, naturally it’s not a pristine measurement kind of deal. It’s subjective and will depend on a readers own experiences and willingness to suspend disbelief. But I get very self-conscious and picky about writing this stuff. Probably more so than I would be while reading some other person’s characters in a similar situation if I’m honest.

I like to think when Bastion first realised he actually wanted Ida in more ways than just to eat her, I like to imagine his initial reaction was “Oh no, I can’t let Ida know, she will think I am just toying with her, I must take this secret to my grave” He resolves to do the pining from a far thing resigning himself to maybe just getting to be in her company for as long as she survives the Manor or getting to hold onto her soul if he manages to catch her. But he’s so bad at hiding that he’s in love that even Ida who has zero self-esteem and all the reasons in the world to be suspicious of him catches on.

Shadow Weave Manor

A lavish house situated in dangerous woods, a beacon to weary and unwary travellers, is it a haven from danger? Or its source? You’ve heard this story before, read it in books, watched it in films, heard it told a hundred different ways in a hundred different voices. You know the sort of dangers that await you in a place like this. But so what? Everywhere has the potential to be dangerous, nowhere is truly safe. Like a brightly coloured poisonous animal, the house wears the fact that it is dangerous on its sleeve. Does the fact it tells you it is dangerous make it less so? No, but it is rather nice, to be warned for once.

Bastion literally can’t not want to eat Ida, so when he realises he loves her it’s less “I couldn’t possibly hurt her now that I know” and more “How unseemly and presumptuous to ask for more from my prey than sustenance I truly am unthinkably greedy” Proceeds to angst about it a lot and resolves not to tell Ida. Then proceeds to fail spectacularly at keeping it a secret.

The Coffin of Andy and Leyley a horror game about a pair of awful siblings who should probably be jailed for their crimes. Had its poor creator doxxed and chased from the internet. Just cause it contains incest in one of its endings and Twitter can’t understand that A. It’s a horror game and their bad people and B. Even if the creator had an incest fetish that wouldn’t mean the game itself was necessarily promoting it.

It’s like I have a vore fetish, does that mean every instance of cannibalism or predation I wrote is fetishised? No, sometimes a bad thing is just a bad thing and the creator has chosen to take off the fetish goggles to give you normie content.

So what if they have a messed up fetish? If they aren’t hurting anyone IRL and are using fiction as an outlet then let them. If they’re using their fetish to write in the horror genre and make people uncomfortable? That’s a perfectly valid way to use that part of themselves because it’s the horror genre, it’s supposed to make you uncomfortable. You don’t get to be all prissy about it just cause you think the author in the privacy of their own mind might be getting more out of it than just intellectual experimentation. People are out here like “I want my creatives to be pure mental virgins with no weird thoughts ever” okay…don’t engage with art of any kind then. Cause art is inherently gruesome and messy and I guarantee no artist has ever thought to themselves “yeah this was made purely for the audience and I have put none of myself into it”
