I think maybe you can guess from my blog name and some of the stuff I’ve mentioned about Ida but I really like Survival Horror Protagonists. Just something about someone in mortal danger running around a big confusing location closed off from the rest of the world. Solving esoteric puzzles, avoiding booby traps, outrunning, sneaking around and ganking monsters. I respect it, I deeply respect the Survival Horror Protagonist hustle. I can’t even figure out public transport and these bitches are out here reading cryptic riddles and opening passages into underground labs.

Once the cats out of the bag he becomes absolutely shameless about showing affection though. Partially because fawning is his love language but also because he knows that no matter how affectionate he is it will never make up for the fact that he would eat her without a second thought if given the chance and even though it’s fundamentally beyond him to grasp how to spare anyone. Let alone the one he wants most, he wants to be worthy of her. So he goes very ham with displays of affection.

If reformation was a thing for Bastion and Ida (it isn’t, they’re meant to be willing fatal). But if it was I feel like Bastion would be the sort of Pred where he’d reform Ida and she’d leave the Manor to get some fresh air only to return to a miserable, lonely, hungry and incredibly clingy spider monster. He’d be like “It’s been so long I’m starving and lonely please :(“ and she’d be like “Bastion it’s been literally fifteen minutes”

Ida might seem pretty cold in some of the scenarios I lay out but keep in mind that A. Bastion is a spider monster that wants to eat her. And B. Ida didn’t exactly get a lot of positive reinforcement for showing affection or warmth to others before she started squatting in the Manor. She’s really fucking bad at outward displays of affection or really any form of weakness, she can’t even properly emote fear because doing so would have just gotten her hurt in her previous environment. What she is good at is extreme actions to express feelings I.e. self-sacrifice, protection Or seemingly small gestures that are actually really huge when you realise how thoroughly she’s been discouraged from engaging with affect. Bastion meanwhile has never really had the chance to love someone but he’s also never been utterly discouraged from such a thing because back before he existed as he does now people didn’t even realise he had the capacity to be attached. So they didn’t really squash down on that part of him.

More fun facts about Bastion: Bastion is not short for Sebastian he’s literally named after the Noun Bastion you know like the fortification. Get it cause the Manor is sorta a fortress.

He refers to Ida as a Butterfly, not just because Spiders eat butterflies and he’s creepy but because butterflies are beautiful and he finds her beautiful.

However Butterflies can and will drink blood if you leave it out for them and Ida’s ruthlessness kinda reminds him of that tendency. Also though rare, some species of Butterfly are poisonous and some are carnivorous, though the majority are herbivorous and completely nontoxic.

Ida would be unimpressed if she knew about these last reasons. Even her spider boyfriend is calling her scary.

Son of a Bitch! My computer reset back to the state where it won’t accept my password after updates. Oooooh I am so MAD! I wanted to play more Baldur’s Gate 3 and THIS happens. Ooooh Windows you are so Lucky there are only two other Operating Systems in existence and I don’t know how to navigate either of them >:(
