It was feathery. A soft and gentle touch. Bitterly my skin reacted with goosebumps, but my heart reacted with growing attachment. “ Tu es dilectus meus in aeternum .” Was always whispered faintly into the shell of my ear right before my consciousness fell into sleep. My lips would twitch into a frown at the feeling. The feeling of a cold breath tickling the fine hairs of my head. The feeling of a strong presence domineering over my life invisibly. 

Gentle fingers rolled down my bare forearm, the blankets falling meekly beneath the command it was given. Eyes piercing and aware stared deeply into me. A heat stirring in my core and an irresistible urge to act upon said feeling. But one thing kept me from doing so. I knew to never look into the eyes of it whom chose to haunt me. I wanted so badly to, an inner conflict taking place within me every night. Every night when it would perch upon the side of my bed, the mattress dipping. Every night when it would sit there and stare, giving gentle touches that made my core throb. It was delicious.

It was during a fall afternoon. Despite the chill creeping through the breeze, there was something warm about the changing season.You sat down on a bench and looked up at the colorful trees above you. The leaves were just starting to fall. The orange, yellow and red colors gracefully flowing through the air, sprinkling the ground with their beauty.

You had forgotten how pretty it was during this time of year.You felt someone sit down next to you and when you turned your head, your eyes had met with Taehyung’s. “You came.”

He said with a wide, boxy smile. It hurt to see how beautiful it was, but you managed to return a half smile, “I do every year.”

You let your eyes wonder back to the leaves as Tae followed your gaze and looked up as well. You sat there for a few minutes, just listening to the sound of the rustling leaves. Until Tae faced you again,

“How’s she doing?”

Still looking up, you replied with a sigh, "She looks just like you, Tae.“ You finally turned your head towards him with a smile. He had the softest look in his eyes and you couldn’t help the constricting feeling in your heart. Tae met your eyes before speaking, his expression suddenly going sad.

“Why don’t you ever bring her here?”  You dropped your head, looking at the ground. You always felt guilty for not letting her see him, but you were afraid with how she would take it since she’s still so young. You worried it might make her more confused.

“She doesn’t understand yet.” You start to say slowly, 

“She’s still waiting for you to walk through the door, yelling daddy’s home.”

Taehyung’s eyes fell to your fiddling hands where he saw the wedding ring still in its place on your left hand.

“…secretly, I am too.” Your voice was starting to get shaky as you tried to choke back your tears. Taehyung’s heart sank and his face looked pained. He hated seeing you this way. He wanted nothing more than to go back to how it used to be, to be able to reach out and touch you again. To hold you and tell you everything’s going to be okay.

You managed a weak smile as you saw the first tear fall onto your lap. This season was so bitter-sweet; you weren’t sure whether to be happy or sad anymore. “I should probably get back.” With that, you got up and started walking to your car. You stopped just before opening the door and looked back at where Taehyung’s gravestone resided, fresh white roses laying in front of it. “Next year I’ll bring our daughter, I promise.”

“We need to talk,” Jeongguk’s fingers continued to brush against the skin from your waist to the slight curve of your hip as he pressed a kiss on the tip of your nose, a blush blossomed across your cheeks, with a slight frown, he continued, “ever since we found each other I don’t see you do any of your essays.”

You pouted and rolled out of his arms to face away from Jeongguk, knowing what he was about to say as well as what he had already said was true. Jeongguk was your soulmate, and you couldn’t stay away from him, he was all you could think about and it had led to your grades slipping, although your school had made an exception because you had foundthe one.

Wincing at the burn of too-hot tea scalding the end of your tongue, you sigh and let your gaze return to the barren street outside, the light trickle of flowing water against the glass windows all that was left of the sudden autumn rain. The sky was still somewhat grey, not quite yet clear from the clouds, and you easily found yourself getting lost in the blue that was cracking through.

It’d been a quiet season in general in the shop, but even more so than normal this morning, and not even just in the flower shop but out on the street as well. But, what more could you really expect from a Monday morning?

You’re staring down at the leftover crumbs from your toasted croissant you’d nabbed from the café on the corner for lunch when the warmth of your shop is interrupted by a painfully cold rush of air. Your eyes shoot up at the chiming bells’ cue of a visitor, readying your face with a polite smile even before you connect gazes with the possible customer.

Their back is turned to you as they push the door closed against the wind, and it gives you time to brush the paper bag into the bin below the counter before they spin to face you, but you could already tell by the sheer width of their shoulders that it was man.

“Hi, can I help you with something?” Your voice crackles slightly from lack of use and you clear your throat quietly, a natural smile curving your lips as he meets your eyes, and you’re caught off guard at the depth of his. Long pale fingers interrupted with scrawls of black on his knuckles lift to pull the scarf that’s wrapped around his chin open and down his chest and it takes you a moment to realize its tattoos adorning his skin.

“I mean, I’m not really sure what I’m actually after so I can’t say for sure.” Now that his scarf is lining the lapels of his thick coat you can see a peek of more black designs breaking the neckline of his t-shirt and disappearing beneath. He gives you a warm smile as he crosses towards the arranged buckets of single flowers, and you pull yourself from your stool to meet him.

“Have you counted the stars recently?” Jeongguk’s head turned to look at you, even though he was mid spar with an android which quickly took his lack of focus to jab at him. However, with a flick of his wrist, he sent it flying against the floor, a sharp clunk of metal, but Jeongguk did not revel in his victory now busy looking at you.

His eyebrow quirked at your statement knowing you were going to use it to weave an excuse to not do your paperwork. But sat in your window seat, face pressed against the glass as your eyes scanned the sky for a trace of the missing stars, you missed the disbelief on his face.
