V important thought you should know that the verge article about the pokemon vote is clearly in agreement with you that bulbasaur should win, but also forbes published an article saying bulbasaur will probably win ESPECIALLY bc of the bulbasaur-propaganda account. I feel like that's a pretty big acknowledgement of your power

I really don’t deserve this but I’m happy that Bulbasaur love is spreading 😭😭😭
general rule of thumb: history was gayer than you have been led to believe
i wonder if part of the reason geralt is so against saying jaskier is his friend is cause like
I have no friends = cool sexy loner with no attachments
I have one friend = sad loner whose only friend is a chucklefuck with a lute
My dear lgbt+kids,
Lately I’ve seen a lot of online discussions about the term “gay icon” and if it’s okay to call straight celebrities gay icons - I want to share my thoughts on that:
Historically speaking, we have called straight people “gay icons” for a long time. It didn’t mean “this person is openly gay” or “we assume this person may be a closeted gay”, it just meant “this person is loved by the gay community, they have a lot of gay fans”.
Example: James Dean was considered a lesbian icon in the 1950s because he was a fashion inspiration to many lesbian women.
But obviously we don’t live in the 1950s anymore. So, where does it leave us today? Is it still okay to label straight people “gay icons”, now that there are more celebrities who openly live as lgbt+?
To me, it depends on the context. The term “gay culture” is often used in a jokingly manner but these shared interests and in-community jokes are actually something that can help us bond with each other.
I believe that’s the big allurement of “gay icons”. They help us feel part of something, feel a connection to each other. Listening to Britney Spears is fun but knowing that many queer men like her music gives me a special kind of comfort.
It can however be different when straight people take gay culture and try to turn it into profit. Let’s say a cooperation says “We support the lgbt+ community, so please buy our Britney Spears shirt this pride month” - then it’d be right to question “Hey, why don’t they promote lgbt+ musicans or a shirt designed by a lgbt+ artist instead?”.
To me, straight people being called a “gay icon” is fine - but it’s for us. “Gay icons” are not meant to replace or erase the voices of actual gay people. If straight people want to represent/support lgbt+ people, they need to actually choose a lgbt+ person.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad
Media sometimes uses a snarky butler as a sign of a weak or ineffectual employer, but man, if I had that kind of money, I’d pay extra for a butler who was quick-witted enough to just burn me to the ground at a moment’s notice.
