that's a good point! the Latin plural would not apply to a word with a Germanic root. so "dinguses" it is!
just like the word radius has the plural form radii, a single macaroni is a macaronus, and the same grammatical law applies to spaghetti (spaghettus), pepperoni (pepperonus), etc.
on its own this is cursed information, but it has more sinister implications.
yes. the plural of dingus is dingi. and there’s nothing that any of you dingi can do about it.

Lore Tuesday
So, a while ago, a community Discord server I was in had a thing called Lore Tuesday: every Tuesday in the daily questions channel you got a free pass to share a random nugget of information about your original world/story/characters. That server is effectively dead now, but I'm bringing Lore Tuesday here, because I miss it very much and it feels like a fun thing to do on the blog –especially considering I haven't actually posted much in the way of worldbuilding, historically speaking. I'm gonna try to post a random lore nugget every Tuesday, and tag it with #lore tuesday! Feel free to snag this idea yourselves if you so desire. :)
I was writing my astronomy homework about the moon and tried to write
“the moon appears red during a total lunar eclipse […]”
but instead I accidentally wrote
“the moon appears rad during a total lunar eclipse”
Well… I… I guess it does, if you wanna think about it that way.
I saw your last ask, where you said that you have a spreadsheet on the statistics of hundreds of planets. Do you have any spreadsheets on material properties (ie. mechanical properties of fictional metals or woods)? Could I see them?
I actually don't, unfortunately! Materials science is one of my blind spots tbh; I don't know very much about it and thus don't feel confident tangling with the implications of fictional materials. At best, there are certain substances in use in the Diaspora canon (such as room temperature superconductors and high-durability heat shielding) which I've given general properties, but their composition and specifics are intentionally left vague. However, Atomic Rockets has a cool section on the Unobtainium page all about different kinds of high-tech metamaterials!
Back in my feels about Lullaby for a Weary World by Technical Difficulties:
Make me a cradle to rock my weary world Make me a gentle voice to soothe her when she weeps Make my arms strong enough to hold her when she wakes And make me a lullaby so sweet and fine that I can sing my weary world to sleep
I love this song so fucking much.
gonna be combing through my archive again and making sure everything is tagged properly, plus reblogging a few old favorites.
