With the rise of mobile devices being used to browse the web, the need for mobile-friendly sites is growing extremely fast. Unfortunately, making a layout responsive is still a challenge for many people.

By request of an anonymous user, I’m sharing my own method of making responsive themes, so this post will only cover what I personally do and the way I do it.

sidebar settings in the appearance

as default, you can change: color, type of font (8 custom google fonts and 3 standard ones), size, font weight, font style, text transform, position, letter spacing and word spacing for: body, custom title (scroll down to find it), sidebar description, links and links icons, date info and tags

icon size 70px, it will resize to that if you use a bigger one

if you prefer to use sidebar image, size is max-width 268px

4 links, with option to use them or not and use only icons or icons + text

change sidebar links icons

to change the icons, you search the one you want here and pick the name, go back to the theme and search for <div class=“sidebarlinks”>. pick the icon you want to change and replace the class on the span <span class=“sf sf-home-o”>

posts settings

540px,       500px,       400px,       both 500px and 540px

you have to use only one of the sizes of posts available. i recommend you to enable/disable all of them and then enable only the one you desire.

unnest captions or regular captions (with blockquote). also have an option to use avatar icons, or custom icons

posts and sidebars borders, caption borders. also edit border size, style, and color

custom controls with hover or use tumblr’s default

option to use images black and white, and change the opacity
