One Of My Favourite Things About Sirius And Remus Is That They Are The Very Definition Of "do Not Judge
One of my favourite things about Sirius and Remus is that they are the very definition of "do not judge a book by its cover".
Sirius is outwardly harsh, aloof, and cruel at times, but is actually incredibly loyal and loving to those he cares about.
Remus comes off kind, calm, professional, and damp, but can be downright cold, and is pretty quick to jump to murder.
This is so evident in PoA. When we're introduced to Sirius, it's as this insane mass murderer that everyone (wizarding and muggle world alike) are terrified of. And it's not just in present day. It's suggested that Sirius was feared before he was arrested. But when we actually meet him, he's grief stricken, head in his hands, apologetic and shyly asking Harry if he can be a part of his life.
When we meet Remus, Harry thinks he's one hex away from death. He's mostly quiet, professional (and fun!) but emotionally distant. When we see him in the shrieking shack though, once he's found the truth of Peter's betrayal and is back in Sirius' presence, he's all of a sudden spilling his guts about their past and chasing Peter around so they can murder him.

Leaving Church in the Fifteenth Century (1864) by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema

Yapper x Listener is so Bartylus because it’s Barty who is encouraged to be silent and invisible in his home and jumps at the chance to be the opposite of that when out of it, so much so that a lot of people find him incredibly annoying and almost aghast at his lack of etiquette with just letting whatever he thinks loose because keeping it inside makes him queasy. And it’s regulus who was also encouraged to be quiet almost everywhere but instead of longing to speak, he actually finds he quite likes opening his mouth as little as possible but what he doesn’t like is silence. He hates having nothing to hear, it makes him feel like he’s suffocating, like he’s not making up for a conversation that should be happening or like he’s been left alone in the quiet again. So regulus absolutely loves how Barty is constantly talking about anything and everything but doesn’t always need a response, and Barty absolutely loves how regulus will always listen to his thoughts without a single admonishment about the volume or quantity of them. It’s just the epitome of being both comfortable enough around each other to be your truest self and also knowledgeable enough with each other to be unwavering in that because you know that what makes you tick makes them soothed.
