Yeah, Theres A Reason Why We Dont Hear About It Any More.Estimates Range To Infinity. Actual Bodies Found?
Yeah, there’s a reason why we don’t hear about it any more. “Estimates range” to infinity. Actual bodies found? 0. None. Not a single one that wasn’t already park of a known then forgotten graveyard. A Canadian atrocity in which there are no bones. Cultural genocide? Absolutely. Though tears are uncountable. Deaths for neglect and disease? All diligently marked down (sometimes multiple times because they were double reported as both “hey, this kid died of measles” and “here’s our year end count of deaths as per mandated regulations”. A single body anywhere in all of Canada that was discovered as a residential school and unexplained by the above reason? Nope. Ground penetrating radar results indicating a body that was easily fooled by root systems conducted in a fruit orchard as ‘preliminary testing’? About 215 actually.

Hey remember when they found over 200 bodies of native children buried behind a residential school and the world cared for... what, a week?
They've counted about 6,000-7,000 now, for those of you who do still care

And trusting Bea to answer her. How many times did she wonder “why are you upset with me?” About Francis, Superion, Lilith. About people who were ‘supporting’ her but failed to do so because they were upset with her. For reasons they lied about, or blamed on her, or just hid. Ava treats everything in the first couple of episodes with humour as her defence mechanism, her only way to get perceived control. She stops using humour to seriously ask Bea “why are you upset with me?” And Bea does. Reigns in her upset and bares her heart just to show Ava why she’d been acting that way and that she truly is sorry.
I love how Ava immediately says “okay but why are you so mad at me?” when Beatrice lashes out the first time. It’s not just that she understands that there’s more going on here than her being a little slow on the uptake sometimes because Beatrice has been training her for the past few hours and she’s been incredibly patient with her, and Ava knows how kind and understanding Beatrice is from basically all of their prior interactions. It’s also that she genuinely wants to know, there’s a deep desire to understand what made Beatrice lash out, a “there’s more to it than you’re telling” type of curiosity to find out who Beatrice is which drives her to ask that question. It’s Ava probing just a little deeper to find out why this, of all things, was triggering to Beatrice, not even so much so she can avoid it in the future but simply to put together the intricate puzzle that is Beatrice.
"Could it be called a blind date if two people who have never met spend hours together heading the same direction?"
Lilith asks to arrange Beatrice's ticket. Beatrice's only excuse for not seeing this at the brilliant red flashing warning sign it is, is the headache she's been fighting since she woke up ten hours ago. Not coincidentally, at the same time she saw her mother's email message. The one that demanded her home for her brother's wedding next week. Beatrice agrees with a quick (unnecessary) reminder that she'd prefer a train to a plane. Lilith waves her off to her room and the blissful dark quiet with a snarky quip about how they've known each other long enough for Lilith to know what she needs. Beatrice is asleep before she can wonder why Lilith said 'needs'. Lilith, of course, knows the thing Beatrice needs most for that trip is a distraction. Thankfully her girlfriend has a devilishly wicked mind. Camila doesn't need to wait patiently for ten hours as her best friend works herself into a stress headache trying to love both herself and her family. "Hey Ava, remember that favour you promised me last week for bringing you ice cream home at 2 am?" Ava's head pops up over the back of the couch. "Yes! It was amazing Cam. You totally deserve a 'best roommate' award." "Good," Camila grins. "I'm cashing it in." Ava fist pumps. "Alright! What'll it be? Supper for a week? The best cupcakes you've ever had? Want me to beat up Todd for you?" Camila adopts a thoughtful look. Todd had seemed like a great guy. His wife thought so too. Fortunately in learning about Mrs. Todd Camila had the great fortune to meet someone she liked a whole lot more. "Can you even bake?" She finally asks. "Nope!" Ava cheers happily. "But oh my god, I found the most amazing cupcake stand at the farmer's market last week. I was going to bring you one but I ate them all." Ava's utterly unrepentant. Camila gasps. "Betrayal!" She clutches at her heart. "E tu, Pikachu?" Ava shrugs. "I'll grab extra next time I'm there. Seriously though, what's the favour?" "Oh, that, I'm sending you on a blind date. Pack an overnight bag." Ava tilts her head. "We're that confidant are we?" Camila laughs. "Trust me, you won't be able to stop." Two days later, trapped in a two-person train cabin for the next sixteen hours and thirty-six minutes Ava doesn't know if she should be impressed or scared of her best friend. She's hopeful that her blind date is at least how. She doesn't know she should be hoping someone (anyone) told Beatrice this is a blind date.
So fun to chart the footprints of a stranger’s heart by the graffiti they leave on art you built for them
I have feels about this concept. And half an idea of new recruits joining the OCS who fall in deep lust for the ‘young’ halo bearer and can’t figure out why their MILF of a hand to hand combat instructor hates them. Mother Superion (Camila!) laughed at them for not figuring it out. And is it just them or does everyone have the same last name if they’re not a nun?
I think Avatrice would be like, that elderly couple who die within days of each other, not because they can’t live without each other, but they’re at the end of their lives anyway and they just don’t want to. They were each other’s best friend, each other’s person. Their life was always a joint project, and it seems like a good end, to not be apart for too long.
