My BSD Character Tierlist ! Made using @2offayo-kzt ‘s template.

My ranking is based only on how interesting and nuanced I find the characters. And of course, my opinion on how interesting they are is completely subjective and will change on further reading / rereading (so far read till chapter 72 + fan analyses). It’s not based on my like / dislike of their personalities, appearances or quirks (for example, I think Sasaki was a bitch to kill Rokuzo and take out her anger of abandonment on others. And I think Kyouka is a really nice person. But I found Sasaki more intriguing than Kyouka, hence their rankings).

I’d place Gab and H.G. Wells from 55 minutes in S and B tiers respectively. And Pushkin in B tier.

I didn’t make a D tier. 

I’m prepared for immature fans to consider me ‘misogynist’ or ‘sexist’ for not putting Yosano and Kyouka in the top 2 tiers, even though Kouyou and Sasaki are ranked S.

Do you ever think in the absolutely devastating contrast between dazai’s reaction to odasaku’s death vs chuuya’s to the flag’s? About how Dazai is generally seen as cold and emotionless but odasaku’s death is one of the few moments in which Dazai shows pure, genuine, /unadulterated emotion/. One of the few moments in which he wasn’t the demon prodigy or this omnipotent being and just someone suffering because they just lost their best friend? About how chuuya is his opposite and is this giant ball of strong /loud/ emotions, about how he is by far the most expressive character in the whole story but when he saw his friends die, he had to keep a blank face? About how he consciously fought the urge to scream? About how he was falling apart but he /forced/ himself to keep his emotions at bay because he put albatross needs over his own pain? Detached, apathetic and always in control Dazai Osamu was overwhelmed by emotion and crumbling apart, meanwhile loud, expressive and impulsive Nakahara chuuya was forced into quietness. I just find fascinating that they showed completely different reactions of what they usually show to the world but is precisely that what makes this scenes hurt so fucking much.

oda’s descriptions of dazai in the dark era light novel are so devastating

The fan service, Sometimes the author and manga artist make their moments look fruity. Like Dead apple Manga, Beast, SB

Others ship them for the fifteen Theory, To make a long story short, The irl Dazai once wrote in his book how he had a crush on a boy who he met at fifteen, they would hold hands and the boy gave him a newt which he didn't like but took it anyway to be nice, Now back to BSD, Lots of people theorize Skk being a refrence/parallel to that, Since Soukoku met at 15 years old and canonically held hands. And this is just a coincidence, (don't think it was intentional) But, Both Chuuya and the boy are described. (Now the Irl Chuuya was also short that's why it's an coincidence)

In my opinion, This theory would only be confirmed if Chuuya gave the Dazai a newt Because then it would just be suspicious. And some of things that Dazai does, Could be interpretted as 'fruity' or 'Kinda gay' like putting a finger on Chuuya's lips to tell him that he is the boss (In the beast manga), Or "That's what makes me love you" in the official fifteen novel, (but in context, Dazai said that to express that he agrees with Chuuya, and Chuuya took it the wrong way and thought Dazai said he loved him. Because he heard the love part)

And other people ship it, Because despite their Different personalities they're both quite similar to each other. They both strive for their humanity but go about it in opposite directions.

They both Claim to hate each other, Yet they refuse to let the other die, Aka, They care for each other. (Spoiler alert: Chuuya went on a rampage after dazai's death in the beast movie and Dazai showing actual concern for Chuuya's well being and even going as far to plan another plan for Chuuya) Chuuya cares for Dazai wellbeing and isn't afraid to show it, and Dazai does care but doesn't show it.

Oh yeah, Dazai's weird Obsession with Chuuya. With him telling Verlaine how he thinks about harassing Chuuya day and night. (which is funny because a couple chapters earlier this guy just ask Verlaine why is he so obsessed with Chuuya lmao) OR how he sneaks in Chuuya's apartment to replace his champagne with vinegar.

And Honestly, That's it, It's all for harmless fun, To make fanfics and Fanart etc. (though their are some skk shippers who just take things to far Unfortunately, That's out of our control) Anyway, it's okay if you don't see it or like the ship it's not a requirement to stay in the fandom. It just that a Majority of people like their Dynamic more

Can somebody explain why everyone ships dazai and chuuya ?

I don't see it but I'd like to understand the hype.

Is it just a thing within the Fandom? Is it actually meant to be that way by the creators? If so, is it from the manga or the anime? Why do you ship them?

I've noticed that a lot of anime Fandoms seem to be obsessed with constantly shipping men with other men, which is okay, but sometimes it's a little weird and seems fetishy, especially when they start defending said ship... Is this situation also one of those things?

I'm really confused to be honest.
