sorry for the "bad" take but i fully believe even homeless people who "are lazy" or "aren't trying" to find housing still deserve housing. maybe things were too hard for too long for them and they gave up. maybe they just genuinely don't know where to go. maybe they're chronically ill, mentally ill and/or neurodivergent. maybe they're experiencing severe psychosis and can't "try". maybe they're having a pain flare up. maybe they're going through withdrawals, or are heavily intoxicated to cope with not knowing if they'll have a place to sleep and food to eat. you don't know. you have no clue what they're going through. they deserve to go through it in a home.

and yes this includes homeless people who are "lazy" and do not have any known or diagnosed health conditions that would explain or impede their ability to function and survive. i don't care if it's due to your health or not- you still deserve housing. lazy people are still people.

Headcanon for the day: In Puqi Village, 'Xiao Hua' says the weirdest things on daily basis and everyone laughs, thinking he's joking. he just has a really odd sense of humor, y'know?

some villager wants to use his sheep for dinner, but he's just too old and can't cut right; he doesn't want the poor thing to suffer. xiao hua steps in and kills the sheep in a short sec before cutting skin from flesh and flesh from bone in record time. the villager asks about it. xiao hua smiles like an angel and says "oh, just from slaughtering my enemies and turning their bodies to blood." The villager laughs, patting him on the back.

some unlucky thieves try to steal from Puqi village in the middle of the night. xiao hua has them defeated on his way back to the shrine in less than a minute. the shocked villagers ask about how he knows to fight so well. xiao hua chuckles and says "from fighting arrogant martial gods for fun". a granny squeezes his cheek and scolds him with no heat.

heavy rain ruins the main road of the village, and no one can come and go. xiao hua rolls up his sleeves and fixes the road before the sun sets. The villagers, in awe, ask how he knows so well about road-building. xiao hua rubs the back of his head, leaned against a shovel and says "I built a city from ground up in my very abundant free time." The girls swoon at the sight of his bare forearms.

some poor woman's home gives in after heavy snow. xiao hua helps daozhang to rebuild the house for her. it's the best house on Puqi village by the time it's done. They all ask how xiao hua knows so much about architecture. xiao hua, teaching the kids how to prank one another, absentmindedly says "I burn down my manor and build it all over again when I get tired of its decoration, you know how it is." the villagers holler in laughter.

(On one notable occasion, some of daozhang's friends come looking for him in puqi village when xiao hua is helping daozhang work on the rice fields. they all pale at the sight of the sweet boy, for some reason. While they're discussing things with daozhang in the middle of the field, one little girl asks xiao hua to light her little lantern for her. xiao hua does it with a snap of his fingers. The girl giggles, asking how xiao hua can make a fire so good? xiao hua loudly announces that he burns temples when the gods are mean to his wife.

The villagers laugh and coo. But daozhang's friends all pale. one of them falls over, passed out cold. The villagers tilt their heads with confusion as two horrified friends of daozhang watch xiao hua teach two boys how to flip a coin to their advantage. Huh. Daozhang has such weird, uptight friends, they think. Why can't they appreciate some good humor? One villager even shouts 'the only one burning down holy buildings here is daozhang, whenever he goes to cook!')

behind their backs, Crimson Rain Sought Flower grins at 'daozhang's friends', eyes gleaming devil-red with a mouth full of fangs. Another official is out cold at that. His Highness only laughs fondly.
