Going Back Through The Prompt List Too While I Have Some Time. Hope That's Ok!

@inception30daychallenge

Day 01: Your favourite scene.

I absolutely love the scenes where they really go heavily into the idea of 'we are in fact dreaming, we can do anything.' The scenes where Ariadne is playing with the bridges and the city, the one where Cobb and Mal knock over the brick of sand and we see it duplicated behind them, their city being built in a similar way... that kind of unreality stuff makes me so happy. I just want to look at it forever.

I liked the Shorthandly youtube channel for learning Pitman, it's got really comprehensive videos and it's well-organized.

Do you know how to write in shorthand? Or do you know of any good resources to learn? Just curious.

A piece of Pitman's shorthand writing on lined paper. In longhand, it would read: “I am anxious, and it soothes me to express myself here; it is like whispering to one’s self and listening at the same time. And there is something about shorthand symbols that makes it different from writing.”

I made an attempt several years ago to learn Pitman's Shorthand, which--being popular in Great Britain--would have been a likely candidate for the type of shorthand with which Mina and Jonathan would be familiar. I bought a very cheap fountain pen (which is significant in helping to vary the line width) and looked up a copy of one of the original Pitman's guides on Googlebooks. Alas, I was not that great at building speed and ended up with very pretty writing which was not actually of great use to me in transcribing anything. I've long since lost the knack for it.

I know some of my followers at one point tried to learn Gregg (a system more prominent in America that doesn't require a fountain pen), so if anybody wants to chime in with additional resources, feel free to do so.

@inception30daychallenge

funny story right

so i watched this movie like 7 times in 1 week (thanks adhd), devoured a ton of fanfic, then came onto tumblr and realised that, hey, the 30 day challenge is still going! so here i am.

Day 25: What pet(s) does Robert have?

Being the sole heir to a huge corporation - and a very competent businessman in and of himself - doesn't really leave a lot of time to care for animals. He probably has a few fish tanks that he can pay one of his employees to care for while he's out. Nothing too big or gaudy or expensive, but he has some very pretty schools of angelfish, and a few betta tanks as well. It's nice to have something to focus on aside from his work, so when he's got free time he often spends it scraping off algae or polishing the glass to keep away water streaks.

After he dissolves Fischer-Morrow, he does have a little more time to himself. He gets more into the less common animals, like starfish and horseshoe crabs, and sets up some marine tanks. (Nothing metal is ever safe in his office again - staplers last a week at most before they're covered in rust. At least the starfish look cool.)

Dracula’s Lineage Speech

If anyone for any reason would appreciate a blow by blow breakdown of everything that is going on in the Count’s lineage speech, matching all of Dracula’s dialogue to Stoker’s research sources and describing the historical events being alluded to, I made one of those many many years ago and I’ve copy/pasted it under the cut:

jonmina headcanons time!!!

fair warning - even though i've read the book multiple times i am prone to just forgetting important things so these may be like entirely against canon but w/e

- jonathan and mina are childhood sweethearts

- i think it's canon that they both lost their parents when they were young so they definitely bonded over that

- jonathan went to an all-boys boarding school and mina went to its all-girls equivalent (along with lucy) and that's how they met

- they spent summers together, catching toads and causing trouble and such

- lady westenra allowed them to stay with her during this time as they didn't have anywhere else to go

- jonathan started learning from mr. hawkins in his mid-teens, and so he decided to spend summers at his home from then on. mina spent her time divided between the westenras and jonathan. this was also when they started to take their studies more seriously - up until now they'd spent most of their time goofing off

- they tutored each other - mina helped with the sciences and jonathan helped her with languages and humanities

- they're both bisexual. one day when they were dating, jonathan approached mina, shaking like a leaf and deathly pale, and told her that she was free to leave him if she wanted, but he had to tell her something, and then he said that he'd loved men in the past. mina just started sobbing and hugged him and said that she was so relieved because she didn't know how to tell him but she was the exact same way

- when it came time for them to ask for each other's hand in marriage, mina asked hawkins' permission to marry jonathan and jonathan asked lady westenra's permission to marry mina

i'll save some other headcanons for the end i just love them with all my heart

I feel like everyone new to reading Dracula this year would probably benefit from knowing that in the original outline, Jonathan at the beginning of the novel was already supposed to have undergone the events in “Dracula’s Guest” where he spent Walpurgisnacht wandering around in a storm and watching a hot vampire lady get struck by lightning before a wolf-that-was-probably-Dracula came and sat on him to keep him warm all night.

I feel like this missing bit of information goes a long way to explaining why he’s sort of like: “Storm. Wolves. Mysterious blue flames my preternaturally strong driver gets out to inspect. Is this a normal part of being a solicitor? (Mem. Remember not to call yourself a clerk. Mina will be proud of you. <3)”
