i wrote a whole paragraph as an answer then realized i was practically spoiling the story :') so i will be VERY vague:

1. she wouldn't avoid him at all (communication is key innit!!!) oc is confrontational and dedicated

2. he would feel bad about it, but his pride would stop him from begging for forgiveness and pretend it never happened the next day (but in an awkward way, not douchey for once lol) he would probably try to justify his actions as well

it's a scientific term for an organism (host) that provides to another organism (guest). parasites live in hosts and leech off of them in a parasitic relationship; in commensalism the host provides and the guest is neutral, but in the story it's a metaphor for the significant partner who loves more than they are loved. they become the host for providing affection either without getting anything in return or just being harmed in the process.

tldr; host is the giver in a relationship
