Gif not mine, credits to the owner!
They always had your back, which you found comfort in.
Whether it be standing up for you, or tearing in a new one to the woman who got your order wrong after youâd already given a smile and taken what was served. (It may or may not have been Tim yelling whilst Lucy fiddled with her nails.)
You were so close to them, since your day one on the job Lucy had been nothing but a sweetheart. Fixing your hair for you, ordering your food for you or just giving you a smile when your day was particularly gruelling. She, along with Nolan and West were your best friends. But Lucy went above and beyond when it came to you, even if you didnât notice at times.
And Tim, was a special case. Of course at first all Rookies got the roughest side of him. But overtime Tim noticed the little things about you. And at first he figured it was you trying your hardest to kiss up to your T.O and everyone else. But he soon came to realise that you were naturally this nice. Always helping anyone where you could when they asked, even with out ask at times.
But that was the problem.
Tim found you to be in need of him, someone to properly guide you rather than your idiot of a T.O who couldnât care less about you. You were nice, too nice for your own good. He could help in that department.
You entered the break room in the mood for about a million cups of coffee. As you reached for a cup another Rookie cut in front of you before grabbing the pot. You took a step back allowing him to fill his cup up, he was probably tired and lacking manners, so you let him continue. But if there was one person who wouldnât?
âHey, you cut in front of her. Pass your cup over to her and move to the back of the line.â Tim startled the Rookie in question so much that he spilled it all over himself. Heâd been here for about two days in a trial week. Lucy had a feeling he wouldnât be here much longer.
You, being you, jumped straight in to help the ass, âHereâs a napkin, you should go change. Maybe take a shower and see a doctor if there are any burns okay?â He nodded before rushing out the door, but not before shoving a cup into your hands.
You couldnât believe what had just happened, you put the cup down, ready to reprimand the two but when you turned around you realised you couldnât exactly reprimand two officers above you.
âThanks for standing up for me butâ,â
âNo problem sweetheart, howâs your paperwork going?â Tim asked as he poured a cup for himself and his girlfriend. You always noticed him doing stuff like that for her so she didnât have to, as if it was second nature for him. But he also did the same for you, not that you noticed. âUhm⌠itâs going well.â You tried to continue on but the two of them interrupted you every time.
You sighed in defeat as you stirred in sugar, Tim and Lucy sat on either side of you, personal space be damned. You hadnât realised how often Tim and Lucy used nicknames with you, or sat close to you, or defended you.
Was this normal?
âWhatâs going on in that little head of yours?â Lucy smiled at you as your cheeks flushed, âIâ uhm,â You heard Timâs laughter from your right, âYouâve got her blushing Chen.â Your head snapped his way before shaking your head, âNo! Itâs just, warm.â You fiddled with the cuff of your long sleeve as Tim and Lucy admired.
You were so adorable, always with a smile on your face. You could never handle it when they flirted with you, and they took every chance they could get to see you go red. They loved to do it, and they did it so often that youâd basically become accustomed to it. That didnât mean it was easier to handle with two gorgeous people, especially when theyâre older and in charge.
Tim loved talking to you. Just hearing your voice was enough to bring a rare smile to his face. When you were truly impassioned in a topic he could tell, so could she. Youâd sit up straighter in your seat, your hand movements increased and so did your eye contact.
But with him and Lucy? You never could keep eye contact. Again, adorable arenât you?
But what Lucy hated was when you were interrupted. Itâd been a few minutes of you talking at them about a call of yours from the day before, in which your T.O had made you answer a call on your own whilst on the phone with his wife. You never noticed, but Lucyâs firsts curled up, and Timâs hand rested on his gun.
The anger that surged through their bodies at your T.Oâs irresponsible behaviour was unmatched. How dare he send someone so fragile on their own? Did he understand how special you were?
Timâs hand moved from his gun to his radio as you continued. Youâd ended up in an altercation with two armed suspects, but youâd managed to subdue them both by bursting a nearby pipe which then sprayed the pair. By the time you had both cuffed to a dumpster your T.O, Jim, waltzed in and smiled.
âAnd then he just, smiled. He told me he was surprised I could get the job done and that maybe I did deserve my short sleeves. It seemed so targeted and sexist. As if he couldnât believe that a woman could handle herself. But he apologised later.â Tims brow rose as Lucy titled her head, âHe apologised to you?â
Your head turned to Lucy as you crinkled your nose, âWell, not outright. But he did pay for our lunch and ordered me extra. He let me drive too. Thatâs his way of saying thanks.â Someone was going to have to hold Tim back from beating the life out of this dickhead.
First, he leaves you alone against two armed suspects to see whatâs for dinner, then, after you did an amazing job on your own, he underestimates you.
With the worst timing in the world, in walks Jim, âAh there you are boot. Finished the work have you? Good girl.â You and Lucy visibly cringed at his words as Tim had had enough, âThe hell did you just call her?â Your T.O frowned as Tim stood in front of him menacingly, hand on his holster.
âNone of your business, sheâs my boot.â Jim turned back to his coffee as Tim inhaled, âLeave the room you two.â Jim scoffed as you both got up, âYes, let the men speak huh?â Lucy rolled her eyes as she guided you out, she and Tim shared a moment and a look that screamed âFuck him up.â Jim smiled before reaching for the creamer, but it was snatched up by Tim.
âYou think youâre funny? Being a sexist dick to your Rookie?â Tim prayed that Jim would try something, anything. As long as it allowed him to beat him into the floor. âAgain Timmy, sheâs my rookie. Thatâs the whole point of us Trainers, to toughen them up. You donât question my methods and I wonât yours. Pretty little thing like thatâs probably glided through here.â Tim grabbed him by the shoulder before pushing him against the wall.
âTesty are we? You and Chen have a thing for her?â
âDonât fucking call me that. And Iâll question whatever I want, when I want. And donât talk about them like that.â The mention of you and Lucy was more than enough to set him off, and he wasnât sure if he could stop himself.
Lucy ushered you into her Timâs shop as you kept asking her questions, âWhy am I in here?â Lucy sighed as she rested her hands on her belt, âI donât exactly think youâll be riding with him today. Best if you ride with us, Iâll go alert Grey to whats happening, just stay safe in here.â And just like that, she was leaving for the door.
âMessing with me is one thing, with her? Bad idea.â Tim shoved him against the wall again before whispering into his ear.
Tim, Lucy, you and Jim all stood in Greyâs office.
He stood with his hands on his belt, trying to process what heâd been told. âSergeant, Officer Bradford attacked me in the break room when all I did was simply address my rookie.â Tim and Lucyâs faces simultaneously contorted in disgust at his accentuation on âmyâ.
âSave it Jim. I heard what actually happened through Officer Bradfords radio. Officer Bradford, youâre not yet excused for inciting violence with a fellow officer. Your overtime is cancelled for over a month, youâll be having a reprimand as well as a month of anger management training courtesy of the department. The rest of your punishment will be applied later. Officer Chen, Officer L/N, you may both go.â
Lucy and you smiled and acknowledged him before glancing at Tim, âIâll be fine.â he mouthed at the two of you. The door closed behind you as you looked back into the office to see Greys hands waving around. He was pissed and so was Tim. He had to stand next to this guy.
âHey are you okay Y/n/n?â The two of you were currently filling out paperwork together to kill time whilst you waited for Tim, you glanced back up at her with a smile, âYeah Iâm fine, just glad Bradford stood up for me. But I feel bad now, heâs in there with Grey whilst Iâm here.â Lucyâs hand covered yours as she offered her comfort.
âBaby none of this is your fault, Jim is a moron and stuck in the 70âs. Youâre an amazing cop and youâll be even better as the years pass and you learn. But youâll learn a lot more from another T.O than him. And Tâ Officer Bradford,â she corrected herself, âHe stuck up for you because you donât deserve to be disrespected like that. No one will ever say those things, we promise.â
You couldnât help but smile at her words, never having someone who cared about you so much that theyâd hurt someone else.
Hypothetically of course. Right?
Tim came back grumpy, which wasnât a new thing. But he couldnât help but feel something at the view he has. You and Lucy, shoulder to shoulder, giggling away. At his desk nonetheless. You really were meant for them.
âAlright, youâre sticking with us for the next few weeks L/N. Until youâre reassigned to a new T.O.â Tim stood in front of you as you glanced to him, âWhatâs happening to Jim?â Tim scoffed as he turned to the side before shaking his head and staring at his shoes, âWhat he deserves. Heâs out of here, donât worry about him. Not while weâre here.â Lucy nodded in agreement as she picked up your paperwork and hers, âWeâre done here.â
âGood, get to our gear, boots.â
And for the next few weeks you found yourself closer to Lucy and Tim than ever. In the physical sense being you and them in the same car for every shift. In the mental and emotional sense of having more time together, on calls together, eating together at times and clocking out together. Usually to go to one of their apartments to wind down and have dinner. So close to them to the point where you found yourself in the middle of them.
The tension was thick, whenever you three were alone.
Lucy and Tim were undeniably hot, and you knew that. And so did they. The two of them were absolute menaces when it came to teasing you. Whether it be Tim or Lucy, both or alone. They wanted you all for themselves, and they will have you.
You prided yourself on making a mean cup of coffee.
Before joining the force, coffee was a once in a whole situation but since? Itâs your saving grace and addiction. Your body would probably stop functioning without. Another thing you couldnât survive without would be music. Itâs why you stood in the breakroom with your airpods in.
âBoo.â You jumped at the whisper in your ear only to bump right into your new T.O. âTim!â You jolted as he laughed at your reaction, âYou should be more aware of your surroundings L/N.â Taking a napkin you quickly cleaned the mess on the table before putting a lid on your coffee. âSorry Sir, Iâll pay more attention.â
His lips involuntarily twitched at the notion of you calling him âsirâ. It was usually Officer Bradford or when you were pissed off, Bradford. Not much of a change but for you it was the equivalent of flipping him the bird. Tim found it cute.
âYouâre good.â He spoke before leaning behind you to grab a cup of his own. Your breath hitched as you felt his broad chest pressed against your back. As he poured his cup, he glanced at you, âYou okay there Boot?â Your eyes darted around the room, looking anywhere that wasnât at him. âFine, Iâll be in theâ somewhere.â
He leaned against the table as you shuffled out of the room as quick as possible. God you were cute.
Lucy leaned against the doorway with a smile, âYouâre gonna have her malfunctioning at this point Bradford.â Tim grinned as she approached him, taking a sip of his coffee, âThen maybe we can fix her Chen.â He whispered before taking a sip of his own.
âAnd how would we do that?â
âMight need to lay her down, undressâ,â
âTim!â Lucy yelped as she covered his mouth as a muffled âWhat?â came out. âYou canât stay stuff like that here!â He rolled his eyes before peeling the palm of her hand away from his mouth. âDid you not talk for about twenty minutes about how badly you wanted to kissâ,â For the second time Lucy shut him up.
âShh!â
It had been a long shift for all three of you.
Youâd barely gotten time to catch your breath with how many calls were coming through. There was a concert on in town and apparently that resulted in all hell breaking loose. Merch trucks had been highjacked, fake tickets and scams everywhere resulting in fights.
Tim didnât personally understand the reason for all the chaos, âItâs like your favourite team coming to play in L.A and there are also a bunch of fake fans wanting to go. Along with scammers waiting to make money. People go crazy over the things they love Tim.â
He knew that, he had you.
âYeah but actual sports? That I understand. Some singer whoâs going to walk around a stage? Boring.â You and Lucy rolled your eyes as you gave up on explaining it to him. You were currently out at dinner for once, suggested by Lucy.
âI like it better when we stay home.â Tim muttered as he surveyed the restaurants terrace. There were currently three other couples surrounding them. âMe too honestly.â Lucy was surprised by your agreement as Tim was overjoyed, âSee? Two against one.â Lucy shrugged before returning to the drinks menu, âWe need to get out once in a while.â
We. Not you and I, we. It was those word choices that made you wonder, did they consider you apart of their relationship?
Lucyâs hand rested over Timâs as the waiter approached, âMy names Jack and Iâll be serving you tonight. What will you be having miss?â He waited for you whilst you sorted through the menu, âIâm going to go very simple, can I get the chicken fettuccine and garlic bread?â
He quickly jotted your order down with a smile, âGreat choice.â You smiled at the praise, âThanks Jack.â His smile was wide and sweet as his gaze lingered, a sharp cough caused the two of you to break away.
Timâs hold on the menu was tight, shaping crescent indents into the leather exterior as he watched the waiter, Jake was it? Who cares, he should stop eyeing you up and do his job. But why were you responding to him? Keeping eye contact and laughing.
His cough caused you to finally stop ogling him as Tim barked his order at him, whilst Lucy hid her laugh behind the menu. She hated how this random guy thought he could come up to her girl and charm her. Maybe if she showed her gun off he wouldâ
âAnd drinks?â Tim scanned over the variety of wines as you got up, âIâm going to head to the restroom.â Tim and Lucy nodded as you placed your purse on the table, âUhh, where is it?â Jack smiled, âIâll take you there.â He tucked the menus under his arm, âLead the way!â
Lucyâs hold on Timâs hand was deadly as the two of them stared daggers into Jacks head. Who did this guy think he was? âWhy the hell is she still taking to him? What happened to the restroom?â Lucy complained as Tim straightened in his chair. âI donât know, but we have to let her know itâs not allowed.â
And that came in the form of coming back to the table to find your food packaged for take away.
You crossed your arms as you stopped in front of your chair, âFirst of all, I love those bathrooms. Second, how the hell is the food here so quickly? And third, why is it for takeaway?â Tim abruptly stood as his chair slid back, bumping into the railing, his hand in Lucyâs whilst she grabbed the bag.
âWeâre leaving, now.â His voice was stern and Lucyâs face seemed to be void of the smile from moments ago. âWait what?â Timâs hand wrapped around your wrist as he led you into the elevator.
âWhy are we leaving? Also, I can walk myself, no offence.â His grip on you only tightened as you winced, you quickly contracted your wrist from his hand. Soothing it by running your hands over it, the pain was low but the mark sure as hell would show soon.
âWhat do you think youâre doing?â Eyebrows furrowed slightly, you pulled your lips into a line, âNothing Lucy. Whatâre you two doing? Are you okay?â
âDo you find it fun? Flirting in front of us?â Tim sounded genuinely angry, which was never a good sign. The elevator opened as you followed the two of them, eventually ending up with one behind and in front. Tim silently opened the back door for you, climbing in to turn towards him you were met with a slamming door.
Flirting? They were angry because you flirted? Do they expect you to never talk to anyone that wasnât them? Yes the waiter was cute, but you only talked him about the Marvel Captain America necklace he had on. If they were angry, then did this mean you were in a relationship?
You turned to view the two of them behind the car, they were plotting intently. As Timâs hands drew her closer in, and his lips landed on hers you couldnât help but watch and have no idea who you wanted to be in the scenario. When Timâs eyes flicked up, you turned to the front of the car. This was going to be an awkward ride home.
You were right, the ride home was dead silent.
Timâs hand was interlaced with Lucyâs, right infront of you and you couldnât help but feel as if they were rubbing their relationship in your face. So instead of sitting in the middle as per usual, you shifted over to the window. At least the night was nice.
Lucy couldnât help but smile as she noticed your jealousy. Tim was right, this showed just how much you wanted to be with them. When they kissed you couldnât look away until looked at, and their holding hands pissed you off to the point where you switched seats. When you were with them, you were always in the middle.
When you reached Timâs place you were the first to get out of the car, not bothering to wait for the couple. âYou think we went too far?â Lucy asked Tim, as much as she loved riling you up, she felt sad by your annoyance. She wanted nothing more than to kiss and hold you.
Tim on the other hand, was pissed off beyond relief. He had to refrain from beating the shit out of the waiter and kissing you at the restaurant. But he figured, your first time should be special.
âNo, we havenât. She needs to learn.â
As you entered his apartment you couldnât deny the fact that it did indeed feel like home. You shook your heels off in the doorway, as Lucy and Tim removed their shoes. Theyâd told you to dress nicely but they were both dressed normally. You being in a dress felt out of place when they werenât done up like you were for the night.
Timâs bed was practically calling your name, âWhere do you think youâre going?â His voice was stern and unwavering. You internally groaned, what the hell had you done wrong? âTo bed, what else Tim?â You rolled your eyes, bad idea.
He pushed you against the wall, towering over you. âYou think youâre funny?â He was overwhelming, his cologne lingered and Lucy watched on amused. Was she rubbing her legsâ
âDonât look at her, look at me. Answer the question.â His hands were placed on either side of your head, âNo, I donât think Iâm funny. Iâm sorry.â Tim narrowed his eyes as you squirmed under his gaze, âSorry for what baby?â You stared down at your feet before he grabbed your chin, âFor flirting.â
âSo you know what you did wrong?â You nodded meekly at Lucyâs question. âYou know, a Rookie has to be taught lessons right?â You nodded again, âAnd whose Rookie are you?â The bottom of your dress was smooth between your fingertips as you nervously fidgeted.
âYours.â
âIâm sorry but you have to be taught baby.â His hand slowly moved up your thigh, and under your dress. Tim never looked away from you, even as his hand grazed over your panties. Your breath hitched as his hand slipped past the elastic band, âTim!â You moaned out as you held onto his shoulders.
âWhatâs wrong? Use your words baby.â Lucy spoke as she tucked a strand of hair behind your ear. She moved your hair away, allowing herself free roam of your neck as she surged forwards. âPlease.â
âLetâs take you to the bed huh?â You nodded vehemently at Timâs suggestion as he picked you up bridal style. He laid you down on the bed as you shuffled back. Tim and Lucy stood side by side, the grins never leaving their faces. âWhat do you think Lucy? Howâd you feel when Y/n was talking to Jack?â
At the mention of his name your heart began to race, you were nervous, why were they talking about him?
âAngry, and jealous. You?â
Tim nodded, âI did too. I think we should teach you a lesson. And if youâre good then, maybe, weâll let you go.â You swallowed air before nodding. âWords baby.â Lucyâs voice was soft as she came to sit behind you, laying your head in her lap. âY-yes.â
âIf you feel uncomfortable then say so.â She whispered into your ear as you nodded. âYouâre so cute, you know that right?â You shook your head, âNo, youâre just being sweet.â Lucy frowned at your low confidence, âYou are. Okay? Never let anyone tell you any different. Youâre so gorgeous, and kind and sweet. I love you.â Lucy smiled as your wide eyes looked up at her, full of love.
âIâ I love you too.â She closed the distance between the two of you quickly, youâd been wanting to kiss her for so long. Her hands trailed along the neckline of your dress, cold hands brushing over your chest as you gasped, allowing her to slip her tongue in.
âHaving fun without me?â Tim joked as Lucy withdrew, âMaybe, why? Jealous?â She teased as he shook his head, âThatâs her job.â Tim alluded to you as you rolled your eyes, âIs not.â Lucy chuckled at your words.
âKeep rolling your eyes and Iâll give you a reason to.â Timâs hands were on your thighs again, following the same route as last time and ending up in the same place. You turned your head, trying to bury your face into Lucyâs thighs as Tim removed your underwear. He trailed his hand up and down, collecting your slick.
âSo wet, you know how long weâve wanted to see this?â Timâs lips met yours as he pushed a finger in, causing you to groan. âThere we go, let it out for me.â You wrapped your arms around Timâs neck, trying to pull him closer. Lucyâs hands slowly removed her own top, then her jeans.
You tugged at Timâs shirt as he laughed, âWant me to take it off?â Your eager nod was more than enough for him to slide his finger out of you, but not before Lucy took it into her mouth.
You were going to explode. Lucy stared into Timâs eyes as she detatached from his finger with a âpopâ. Lucy worked on his belt buckle as Tim removed his shirt before chucking it behind him. âTake your dress off.â You did not need to be told twice.
As you lifted your dress you were met with helping hands, their eyes raked over you eagerly. Tim leaned in again, and as you closed your eyes you heard something.
Click!
Fucking handcuffs. âWaitâ are you kidding me?â You tugged at the handcuffs as Tim spoke, âYou didnât think we forgot did you?â You rolled your eyes, âI was being good.â You muttered. Tim was not a fan.
He smushed your face in his hands, âYouâre being a brat, now sit and watch.â Tim kissed Lucyâs neck as she raked her hands through his hair, âOh god.â He made his way down to her chest as she laid down onto the bed. Tim unhooked her bra as he took one of her tits into his mouth. You wanted nothing more than to touch.
But you were forced to sit and listen.
Even as he pounded into her and you writhed against the cuffs. âYou feel so good.â Tim groaned, his fingertips were digging into her hips as she clutched onto the sheets. âFuck Lucy.â He muttered between clenched teeth, trying his best not to moan out.
You couldnât help but rub your thighs together for the smallest ounce of relief. But Tim never made it easy for you. He slid out of her pussy, as she whined, âSo close.â Tim stroked her cheek, âI know baby, I know.â He lifted her up easily with one arm, making her face you before laying her down. âY/nâs gonna watch.â Lucy lifted her back from the bed as she felt herself peak.
âF-fuck Tim!â She shouted as Tim fastened his pace, âYou feel so good.â He groaned before releasing into her. He slowly pulled out, letting Lucy catch her breath as she laid down on the pillows. âYou okay?â He muttered as he kissed her cheek, she nodded. âWanna see you and her.â
Your eyes glistened with excitement, âPlease, take the cuffs off.â Tim was feeling nice, so he reached for the key and unlocked you. You first soothed your wrist before Tim dragged you by your ankles.
âOpen your legs.â You slowly opened them for him. His hands immediately found your waist, mimicking circles along them. He never strayed too close, only trailing up and down, âPlease Tim.âYou wanted to cry. âPlease what?â He responded calmly.
Tim loved seeing you like this, a whiny mess for him. The tears welled up in your eyes as you clenched them shut, allowing a few to fall down. âUse your words sweetie, just like I taught you.â You shook your head in embarrassment, you didnât want to say it out loud. It felt, dirty. His calm demeanour was gone in an instant as his finger slipped back into you, âPlease touch me.â
Lucy couldnât help to admire you, they finally had you.
âThere we go.â He praised as he moved swiftly up your slit; gathering your slick to spread around your clit. "Yeah, there's my girl, you feel good?â Your high pitched moan was more than enough of an indication, âS-so good Tim.â As if his fingers werenât enough, he pumped his cock a few times before teasing your hole.
You arched off the bed as soon as he pushed himself in, fat tip bullying its way into you whilst your nails dug into Lucyâs arm, âI got you baby.â She spoke as her hand came up to your breast, teasing it before bringing it into her mouth. âOh fuck!â You screeched as you felt her tongue drag along your nipple.
Tim eased himself out, and back in as his hand trailed up to your neck, squeezing it as your hand held onto his wrist, âYou like that huh?â You nodded in agreement, tears were flowing freely from the overstimulation. This was literally straight out of dream. He grinned at you when your eyes rolled back, encouraging, "Go for it, feels good baby. You feel so good.â Lucy captured your lips as you groaned into her mouth.
The pressure was so intense, you kept writhing on the bed. âI-Iâm so close Tim.â He took it as a personal mission to make you cum, grabbing one of your legs and angling it up, his hand in the crevice behind your leg. With the new angle he was able to meet new parts, your babbles were incoherent as he laughed, âFucked you so good you canât even talk.â He taunted you as he thrusted his cock in between your drenched folds.
Lucyâs hand trailed down, a sticky mess waiting in between her legs, seeing Tim manhandle you was more than enough. âBet you dreamed of this, of me.â Tim continued to pound into you harshly, cock gliding easily against your inner walls.âYes! Yes! Harder!â you cried out.
âBaby found her words huh?â
You nodded as you steadied yourself by holding onto his biceps, Tim was nothing but fit. Youâd always wanted to see him under the uniform, his large arms always looked incredible in short sleeves. Timâs hand moved from your neck to your clit as he sent you over the edge, following closely. Your hand reached up to caress his neck. Thank yous spilled out from you.
You laid in the middle of Tim and Lucy, fast asleep as they watched on.
âSheâs so sweet and peaceful when sheâs sleeping.â Lucy cooed as she stroked your cheek lovingly, âShe tired herself out, of course sheâs gonna sleep well afterwards.â Timâs hand was on your hip under the sheets, caressing the soft skin absentmindedly. âShe did so well.â
âShe did, knew she could take it.â
âSo what are we?â Lucy waited for Timâs response.
âWhatever we want to be.â

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Is Eddie home?"
(Y/n) didn't bother to try and smile. She didn't put on the brave face she had been practising on the ride down here. She didn't stand tall or square her shoulders or try and look the image of calm and collected like she hoped to when she thought about coming down here.
She knew she looked a mess.
Her jumper was hanging off her shoulders, being two sizes too big for her small frame. Her arms were bound around her chest to try and stop herself from shaking. Her lips were chapped and bloodied from where she had picked and bitten them over the past week out of nervous habit. If anyone looked at her hands they would see she had bitten off most of her nails and her thumbs were raw from where she'd started biting the skin too.
She looked windswept with disshevelled hair and dried tears swiped across her cheeks. And with a subtle trembling set in her bones, she looked almost hypothermic.
This was the right house; (Y/n) knew it. She recognised her brother's signature truck in the drive. And when she leaned to look around the kindly woman in the doorway and peered into the hall, she saw the pictures hanging around the walls. Eddie and Chris, scattered throughout the house. She was at the right address.
"I'll go get him for you."
When the woman turned and headed back inside, (Y/n) let out the breath she had been holding in and tried to smile.
That had to be Carla. The woman Eddie talked about a lot who helped look after Chris when he was at work.
There had been a look in her eyes, a small sense of familiarity and (Y/n) guessed Carla recognised her from one or two of the pictures Eddie had about the house. She just didn't know or realise who (Y/n) was now she was here in the flesh.
"Who is it?" Eddie finished his mouthful of pasta and wiped his mouth on his sleeve before he pushed up from the table.
Who was at the door? He wasn't expecting anyone and he couldn't think who it could be. What young women did he know who didn't work at the station or at Chris's school? It couldn't be anyone from the school coming round at teatime and if it was, Carla would have recognised them.
Just as Eddie stood up from the table, Chris hopped down and sped out the kitchen first to find out who was at the door. His interest was peaked at having a stranger at the door.
"Chris-" A shiver rolled down Eddie's spine and he cringed when Chris let out an excited scream. Who on Earth had turned up tonight?
"Auntie (Y/n)!"
Adrenaline coursed through Eddie's stomach and he hurried up when he heard Chris. (Y/n) was here? His youngest sister? Why was she in LA? Why hadn't she told him she was coming down? Eddie would have picked her up from wherever she arrived in town, he would have made the house look a bit tidier. He and Chris would have come to get her and shown her around and gone out for tea if they knew she was coming down.
He watched with wide eyes and a growing smile when Chris barrelled over to the front door and latched his arms around (Y/n)'s waist. He burrowed his head into her abdomen and clung to her like a monkey, still screaming excitedly into her stomach.
Out of all three of Eddie's sisters, (Y/n) was the one he was closest to and she was the one who had the best connection with Chris. It had been extremely hard on them both to leave (Y/n) back in Texas. And when (Y/n) moved, she moved closer to LA but she was still over an hour's drive from them.
Eddie could handle leaving his parents and his two other sisters, but he didn't want to leave his youngest sibling who he had taken care of all his life.
It had broken Chris's heart to know that his aunt would no longer be ten minutes away.
"Hey buddy- oh, you've grown so much." (Y/n) couldn't keep the tears from falling down her face, both from joy out of seeing Chris, and pain from how tightly he clung to her.
"You're here!"
"I thought I'd surprise my boys," (Y/n) leaned her head down and pressed hundreds of kisses against the top of Chris's hair until he was squealing and squirming against her. She held him tighter and willed herself not to burst into tears but as soon as she lifted her head and looked at Eddie, the waterworks started again.
"Alright, my turn. Chris, go finish dinner with Carla while I help auntie (Y/n) in please." Eddie gently turned Chris around in the other direction and gave him a nudge. (Y/n) wasn't going anywhere and Chris could cling to her and tell her everything that had been going on as soon as he'd finished his dinner and Eddie had the chance to hug his sister for himself.
Once Chris toddled off into the dining room, clapping his hands along the way, Eddie turned back to face (Y/n). He smiled brightly down at her and gasped when she flung her arms around his neck and reeled him in for a hug.
"I can't believe you're here. Why didn't you tell me you were coming down?" He kissed the side of her head and deadlocked his arms around her waist. But he could feel the smile fading from his face when he felt how badly she was shaking.
His hand planted down in the middle of her back and he tensed up the longer she held onto him without the intention of letting go.
Panic surged through him when he felt her tears soaking into his shoulder and Eddie started to realise she wasn't crying out of happiness, at least not anymore. And his eyes darted down to the doorstep in front of him and he could feel a new surge of panic igniting in his stomach.
Two cases.
That was more baggage than just a flying visit. Why had she turned up with all her belongings? Why didn't she call him? What had happened that he didn't know about?
"(Y/n), what's wrong? Why all the bags?" Eddie's hand pressed firmer into the middle of (Y/n)'s back when she tightened her arms around his neck and refused to pull away or look up at him. He didn't like this. Eddie never liked it when any of his sisters were upset or panicked. With their dad working away so much, Eddie had been the man of the house and he had always been the one his sisters went to with a problem they needed him to sort out.
He protected all of them.
He kept his left arm bound tight around her waist and he reached his right hand out to grab her cases. He dragged one inside and did the same with her other bag before he shuffled back with (Y/n) still in his arm so he could shut the door.
(Y/n) stayed limp and easily moveable, letting Eddie guide her through into the living room instead of standing in the hallway. But she started to shake when he finally leaned back and gripped her chin. He tilted her head up so they were finally looking at each other and when his thumb swiped across her cheek to brush away a tear, (Y/n) felt a whimper bubbling past her lips.
"C-can I stay with you, just f-for a while. Please?" Her hands unhooked from Eddie's neck and she let him hold her elbows and guide her to sit down in the armchair.
Once she was sat down, Eddie perched on the coffee table in front of her and rested his elbows on his knees as he leaned forward and arched his back out. His hand dragged across his jaw and down his chin while he nodded and tried to keep a calm expression on his face. His eyes kept wandering across to the dining room. Whatever (Y/n) was going to tell him clearly wasn't something good or anything she wanted Chris to overhear.
Eddie got the feeling that (Y/n) didn't even want to tell him what was going on and that hurt. She never had a problem talking to him about anything, but there was something in her eyes that told him this was harder than ever.
"You know you can always stay with me and Chris, you don't have to ask. What's going on? You didn't call, I could have come and got you⌠has something happened?"
(Y/n) tangled her hands and clenched her fingers together as tight as she could until they started to ache and burn.
"You, um, you know I said I was seeing someone, while I was staying with Chrissy?"
It was no secret that a little while after Eddie left Texas, (Y/n) had moved away too. She had gone to stay with their sister Chrissy who lived closer to LA than she did to Texas. It had been good to get away from home and have a fresh start, and (Y/n) had met someone while she was there.
Her eyes danced down to stare at Eddie's knees but she saw the way they tensed and how his hands curled into fists between his thighs.
"Did he try to hurt you?"
Eddie was wary of anyone each of his sisters got involved with. He didn't hate them right away, but he was cautious. He didn't want anyone to walk right in and think they could hurt the most important people in Eddie's life who he had raised since childhood.
He wasn't too thrilled this time that he knew nothing about the guy (Y/n) had been seeing. He didn't even know his name. All he knew was that (Y/n) had met someone and seemed to be happy with him. No photos, no pictures, no family get togethers where he tagged along. The relationship seemed fairly new so Eddie hadn't asked many questions or probed too deeply into it.
Something told him that maybe he should have. Perhaps he should have asked (Y/n) a little more about this guy and tried to make more of an effort. But (Y/n) wasn't a teenager or a little girl anymore, Eddie had to step back at some point even if he didn't want to.
"Not exactly⌠Eddie he scares me." Tears flushed (Y/n)'s face and her hands began to tremble in her lap until Eddie leaned across to hold them.
"Why?" He didn't understand. What kind of sense was Eddie supposed to make out of that?
"He was so nice at first, but he, I don't know⌠he got controlling, I think he was tracking my phone. He knew every move I made, he kept asking me to move away with him. I tried to end it but he kept coming round and he followed me home from work a few times too."
(Y/n) almost felt stupid for the way she was acting.
He had been kind. He was sweet and caring and loving and everything she thought she wanted in a partner. But (Y/n) didn't want someone to be checking every move she made. She didn't want to feel boxed in and she certainly didn't want to move as quickly as he did. Less than two months with him and he wanted her to move in with him. He even talked about marriage when (Y/n) knew him less than a year.
She wasn't ready for that and saying no to him was like talking to a brick wall. Her words seemed to bounce back and hit her in the face and he just pretended like she hadn't spoken at all.
He would worm his way back to her, attach himself to her and kiss her and engulf her and overload her until she changed her mind because it was easier to give in than stand up to him.
"Where is he now? Has he threatened you⌠(Y/n) you know you can tell me, leaving home in the middle of the night isn't like you."
She felt stupid. She felt stupid for leaving so suddenly as if her ex had been physical with her. His threats weren't like normal, obsessive threats. He didn't say he would hurt her if she left or he would always find her or get her back. He kept saying fate would bring her back to him and she could try all she liked, but she wasn't going to get far.
He scared her rather than threatened her and with how calm and placid he was, it just made things even worse. Not once had her ex hit her or pushed her or gave her a mark on her body that wasn't a simple love bite. He never became physical and during arguments he rarely even raised his voice at her. But he scared the living daylights out of her.
"I told him it was over, but he just said he'd be back for me soon, I don't know what he meant by that. Eddie I need to get away from him, I⌠oh God, promise you won't be mad at me or freak out, please?" (Y/n) dragged her fingers through her hair as more tears started to cascade down her face.
She hadn't told anyone yet.
"Why would I freak out?"
Adrenaline bubbled to life in Eddie's stomach and shot up through his chest. What was she going to tell him that would freak him out?
He leaned back and straightened his shoulders while his hands moved to rub up and down his knees to stay calm and collected. His lips pressed into a thin line and his eyes stayed concentrated on his sister, waiting for her to tell him what the next problem was.
When her hands moved to her jumper, Eddie panicked. He thought she was about to lift up her shirt and show him black and blue bruises littering her skin. He thought he would see scars or broken ribs or dried blood or some sort of injury that told him he had to find this guy and beat him to a pulp. He feared what his sister had been through and what kind of torment someone had dared to put her through.
He wasn't expecting a baby bump.
(Y/n) bit down on her lower lip so harshly it began to bleed again and her fingers trembled as she pulled her jumper up near her bra. She hadn't told anyone she was pregnant. She couldn't tell Chrissy, she would go straight to their parents. (Y/n) couldn't tell their parents because they would be disappointed or try to get involved and tell her she needed to marry this guy. And she didn't want to marry him.
Eddie was the only one (Y/n) could trust who wouldn't freak out, get angry with her or try to tell her what to do. He married Shannon because she was pregnant, but that had been easier. Eddie had been in love with her, marriage was something he wanted. For (Y/n), marriage to someone this pent up and controlling wasn't what she wanted. No matter how desperate her ex was to have her back and marry her.
"How- how far along? Does he know?" Eddie rubbed his hand across his jaw and let out a breath he didn't know he was holding in.
He would expect this from Chrissy. He always expected her to be the one to get into a strange relationship and have a baby. He didn't think (Y/n) would be caught up in a situation like this and it hurt. Eddie should have kept up better contact with her, called and visited her more often and protected her from something like this.
"Nineteen weeks, I think. I can't tell him, Eddie he'll never let me go, ma will want me to marry him and I- I can't-"
"Hey, hey calm down." When Eddie cupped her face in his hands, a tidal wave of tears streamed down her face as she hiccupped and tried to breathe. "I won't let anything like that happen, I promise. Just tell me what you want to do and I'll help you."
"I wanna d-do this on my own, without him. Here in LA, a new start."
(Y/n) wanted her baby. She had nothing against abortions, but that wasn't what she wanted. She was pregnant and she was going to have this baby, despite what her parents were going to think or what her ex was going to try and do.
He didn't know and that was what she wanted. He had no idea about her family or where her big brother lived or what he did for a living. (Y/n) could find a job easy here in LA. She could find herself a place nearby and be around Eddie and their Tia and Abuela and she could be surrounded by family and make new friends up here.
She could raise this baby on her own with her family and that was what she wanted to do. She just needed a little help.
Eddie was always telling her how good it was here, how Chris loved it and they had new friends and a great work family. (Y/n) thought she could make a life for herself here with her brother and family. His work family could become her new family here, Eddie always said how they were looking out for him and Chris and helping them any way they could.
"You can stay here as long as you want, Chris might not let you leave. And I'll make sure that creep doesn't find you, I won't let him near you."
Reaching out, (Y/n) curled her hands around Eddie's wrist and brought his hand to her lap. She ran her thumb across the back of his hand and managed to smile a little. "Can I ask another favour?"
"Anything."
"Don't tell ma or papi, not yet. Once I'm settled and sorted, I'll explain⌠I just can't deal with that hassle right now."
(Y/n) knew what their parents would do and say. They would try and get (Y/n) to come home. They would fret and try to talk her out of this, tell her to go back home to them and start fresh there or find her ex and talk things through with him.
They wouldn't be pleased to know (Y/n) was going to try and raise a child on her own when her ex was out there somewhere, unaware what was happening and perfectly happy to raise a child with her.
But this was her choice. She had chosen to come down here and (Y/n) wanted to stay. She wasn't here for a vacation. This was a fresh start, a chance for (Y/n) to try and make a better life and be with her family. She wanted to make new memories and a new life for herself and be happy here with her family.
She kept her eyes focused on Eddie's hand, but her smile softened when she felt him lean forward. He cupped the back of her head as gently as possible and leaned over so he could kiss the top of her head.
"I'll explain everything to them when you're ready." He would rather be the one to talk to their parents. He could always talk them down and they wouldn't argue this as much if they knew Eddie was on (Y/n)'s side and doing everything he could to look after her. "Come on, let's go have something to eat."
***
"So, will you introduce me to everyone?"
When Chris squeezed her hand, (Y/n) felt her smile brighten and she leaned her head on top of his when he pressed his cheek against her arm. His free hand curled around her arm and clung to her tighter as if he thought she was about to disappear.
He had barely left her side since she turned up in LA last week. It was as if Chris didn't truly believe that (Y/n) was in town to stay, he thought at any given moment she was going to get up and leave.
Every morning so far, Chris had burst into the spare room to wake (Y/n) up, making sure she hadn't disappeared during the night. And when Eddie was at work, like today, (Y/n) went and collected Chris from school and looked after him. It gave Eddie and Carla a break and gave (Y/n) something to do until her new job got lined up.
Eddie had put in a good word for her at the call centre and her interview went extremely well. She was going to be on the 911 calls in a week or two.
"Yeah. Bobby lets me ride in the truck sometimes." Chris tugged on (Y/n)'s hand and guided her into the station. He pointed at the trucks and weaved between them with (Y/n) hurrying to keep up with his strides.
"That's the Captain, right?"
"Yep. Dad!" He swung their hands between them and looked around the station for Eddie. He smiled brightly when (Y/n) kissed the top of his head and moved her free hand to his shoulder, clinging to him as he took her towards the stairs.
"Buddy, what're you doing here?"
"It's uncle Buck! He's the best." Chris stuck his thumb in his mouth and grinned when he watched Evan jog down the stairs towards them with a wide grin and his arms stretched out.
(Y/n) couldn't breathe. All the air got caught up in her chest as a lump formed in her throat and her eyes welled up with tears. She could feel her heart pounding against her chest so harsh she thought her ribs were going to fracture. And when her pulse thudded in her ears, it was all she could hear and feel as her skin pulsed and throbbed.
Before she knew what was happening, all the blood drained down to her feet and her eyes rolled back in her head that felt like it was pumped full of helium.
"Eddie get down here!"
"Dad!" Chris let go of (Y/n)'s hand when her head flopped forward until her chin was tucked into her chest and she started to drop. He watched her knees cave in but his faltering smile paused when Evan rushed forward to grab her. He watched Evan hook his arms around (Y/n)'s waist and let her fall into his chest, saving her from a harsh fall to the floor like he was a knight in shining armour.
Evan darted his eyes around before he carefully stepped closer and went down on his knees, easing the girl in his arms down along with him. Once he was on the ground, Evan carefully turned her around so her back was slumped into his chest and he reached his hand down to cup her chin and tilt her head back on his shoulder.
"What's going on? Buck what happened?" Panic flooded Eddie's voice as he bolted down the stairs and jumped down the last three to rush across the station floor. He reached inside the back of the open ambulance and swiped a medic bag before he made a beeline for his family.
He watched Chris flop down on the floor, his thumb still hidden between his teeth out of anxious habit while his eyes focused on Evan and (Y/n).
Eddie knelt down beside them, briefly ruffling Chris's hair to try and calm him down before he looked down at his sister. She was laid motionless in Evan's arms, slumped down and breathing fast and shallow.
"She- she just fainted, is that normal? Is this your sister?" Evan curved his right arm around her chest and began smoothing his knuckles up and down her sternum to try and apply pressure and bring her back round.
"Yeah, yeah this is (Y/n)."
Eddie kissed Chris's cheek and patted his back before he nudged his son to gently ask him to shuffle back a few paces.
"(Y/n)? Are you back with me?" Shuffling around in the medic bag, Eddie found a blood pressure cuff and slid it up her right arm. He set her hand down on his thigh and brushed his thumb across the back of her hand for a few seconds.
Her head was starting to move from side to side on Evan's shoulder and her fingers started to twitch and clench.
Lifting his gaze, Eddie glanced across at Evan and when their eyes locked, Evan tried to smile politely as he reached down for (Y/n)'s shirt and gently pulled it back down over her stomach from where it had ridden up. Evan sat her forwards and let Eddie take over and have her lean up against him instead.
"Chris, why don't we go get (Y/n) a drink?" Evan waved his hand across at Chris and stood up, letting Chris take his hand and guide him towards the stairs. It would be best to give them both a moment to talk and let Eddie calm her down if she was going to panic. And after collapsing, she could probably use a drink to boost her back up.
"Alright, BP's a little high, nothing worrying." Eddie spoke to himself as he slipped off the cuff and found a heart rate monitor which he clipped onto her index finger. "Hey, there we go." He relaxed a little when (Y/n)'s eyes began to flutter and she tried to focus in on him.
Her hand bashed around shakily until she found Eddie's hand and she gripped as tightly as she could muster. Her head was starting to pulse and throb like she had been whacked and knocked out and her heart was going haywire in her chest.
"What happened?" Eddie watched her eyes dart around and for a second he thought she was looking for someone. But when her gaze settled back on him, she relaxed against him and seemed to melt.
"I- I just went dizzy, I'm okay." (Y/n) gave Eddie's hand a squeeze and tried to muster up a smile. She wasn't sure what came over her. She blacked out quicker than she ever had before, but she felt okay. She wasn't in any sort of danger or hurt in any way, and she had blacked out at the right place.
"Why don't we go sit down? You don't usually pass out very often." Eddie moved so he was crouching in front of her and held his hands out until (Y/n) gratefully took them.
She let him pull her up and leaned into his chest when Eddie curved one arm around her waist and kept his other hand tangled with hers for added support. (Y/n) tilted her head into his shoulder and followed his direction towards the locker room. He wasn't so sure (Y/n) would get up the stairs into the kitchen right now when she was shaking and had only just come back round.
Eddie would rather get (Y/n) sat down in the locker room and make sure she was back to feeling herself before risking moving anywhere else. He still didn't know why she had passed out. He didn't know whether (Y/n) hadn't eaten a lot today, whether she just felt unwell or if it was something to do with the baby. He wanted to keep an eye on her for the time being.
"Are you sure you feel okay?" Eddie moved his hand to her shoulder when she slumped down on the bench and braced her hands on her knees. The way she tilted her head back on his arm and smiled tiredly yet sweetly up at him calmed down one of his many nerves.
"Just lightheaded, I'm sorry."
"Don't be, just stay here a minute while I get Chris and find you a drink, okay?"
(Y/n) nodded and when she felt Eddie kiss her temple, she let her eyes fall closed and started to rake her hands up and down her legs to try and liven herself up a little. She would have to apologise to Chris, she had probably scared him.
Her hand moved to drag through her hair, brushing it back behind her ears and out of her eyes as she took deep, calming breaths.
"I hope you didn't collapse because of me."
Tremors rattled through (Y/n)'s bones until she was trembling back and forth on the bench. Her blood ran cold and disappeared down to her toes as her fingertips went numb and she could barely feel her nails piercing through her leggings into her thighs.
She didn't want to look. She didn't want to turn and look over her shoulder at the owner of that voice she knew she had heard before. But she didn't have to. He walked around until he was stood in front of her, arms casually folded over his chest and his shoulders pushed back into the lockers so he was slanted at an angle.
"Evan." His name fell from her lips in a whisper that he could barely hear, but it made his lips curl into the purest smile (Y/n) had ever seen. And it made her stomach churn.
"Nice to see you too, babe." His hands clenched over his biceps and his head tilted to the side as his eyes stayed focused on (Y/n). He could see she was barely able to catch a proper breath and her eyes were blown so wide there was no colour left in them, just black holes that went on for miles.
"Why⌠why're you here?"
"Me? I work here. Question is what're you doing here? Last time I checked, you didn't live in LA." Evan pushed off the lockers and took a step closer which caused (Y/n) to lean back and tilt her head up to stay focused on him.
He never told her he lived in LA either. She knew he wasn't from Chrissy's hometown. She knew he was only visiting while he was off sick from his job. But he never said he was a fireman. He told her he worked for the emergency services, but never which department and it never came up because he was recovering from multiple leg surgeries. He hadn't been at work.
Evan never told her where he worked, where he originally lived or the nickname everyone called him. If she'd of known, she wouldn't have come down to stay with Eddie.
If she knew her brother's best friend was the person she was trying to get away from, she would have risked going back home to Texas and faced their parents.
She had landed herself right in the middle of Hell by coming here.
"Did you⌠was⌠was this on purpose? Did you always know, about Eddie?" Tears pooled in (Y/n)'s eyes but she couldn't find it in herself to begin crying. She had cried so much about Evan and this whole situation. Crying in front of him didn't feel right and she didn't have the willpower to do it.
She just wanted to go home.
Had he always known? Had he known from the moment he met her that she was Eddie's little sister? Is that why he was so keen on staying in a relationship with her and making this obsession work?
"Finding out I'd fallen for Eddie's little sister was a bonus." He scratched his hand across his jaw and took another three steps forward until he was stood between (Y/n)'s legs. Towering over her like a skyscraper. "This is fate, baby girl."
He hadn't planned anything. He fell for her and once he found out her last name, everything clicked and it made things even better. He had fallen for his best friend's younger sister. And Evan wasn't letting her disappear from him again. She wasn't leaving him when they had a connection, when they had something special that Evan wasn't giving up on.
He knew what they had was what he wanted. Why could everyone else find love and relationships and stick together and start families, but not Evan? Why wouldn't it work for him?
Well, not this time.
This time, Evan was taking control. He had something with (Y/n) and he wasn't letting it go because she was scared to be with him and face that this was special. Evan believed in fate, and he believed that this was a sign. This is what he'd been praying for, and he wasn't letting it go so easily.
(Y/n) could feel the panic dwelling up in her chest and taking over her body when Evan leaned forward. She wasn't sure where his hands were going, but while one hand moved to rest beside her hip on the bench, a chill tore through her when his other hand curved over her stomach.
He knew. He knew what she had tried to hide from him. He knew why she had come down to LA in the vain hope that if he went back to Chrissy's, he wouldn't find (Y/n) there and wouldn't find out she was pregnant.
His thumb glided across her stomach and when he looked down, his smile would of made (Y/n) melt if this situation were any different.
"And now I know you're pregnant, and I can see from that look on your face that it's mine."
(Y/n) wanted to cry when Evan leaned down and kissed her. She wanted to cry for every emotion he's made her feel and every way he'd screwed with her thoughts and emotions and controlled everything she tried to do. She wanted to cry for the baby she had tried to protect and keep safe from him.
But (Y/n) never truly believed she would keep this from him. She had a gut feeling that Evan would find out sooner or later, some way or another. She knew he would find out she was having his baby. And once he knew, he wasn't going to let her go.
And she couldn't stop the way she curled her hand around his wrist when he swiped his tongue across her lips and into her mouth and he bit her lip, devouring every breath she tried to take.
"Don't think for one second that I'm gonna let you keep them from me. This is our baby, you're not doing this without me."
"What do you want, pal? You've been following me for the last five blocks."
Simon turned to look over his shoulder, hunching his shoulders up as his lips crinkled in distaste and panic.
Who was this guy? Why had he been following Simon since he left that bar? If he was looking for a hook-up, he had the wrong person in mind. And if he was looking for a fight, Simon wasn't the type to go round brawling with strangers.
It didn't help that the moon was barely visible behind the shimmering clouds and the street lights were as dim and helpful as a single match.
The man continued to stalk over until he was one foot away from Simon. He had broad shoulders that seemed to expand for miles and his arms were almost ripping through the thick denim jacket he wore that wouldn't even button up around his chest, he was that heavily built.
He had a heavy frame that made his shoes bash and stomp against the pavement, announcing his presence to anyone within listening distance. His hands were stuffed into his jean pockets. His face was freshly shaven, giving him a youthful look and his hair was perfectly cut into short strands that were just starting to curl and crimp at the ends. He didn't look as if the midnight air toussled his hair or touched him at all.
His eyes were the worrying factor. Simon couldn't tell what colour they would have been in the bright midday sun. But here in the darkness of the clouds, the man's eyes were raven black with tiny, glimmering flecks of white like miniture moons captured within each eye.
He looked manic.
"I want to give you a warning." His voice was smooth like velvet, with just a tiny frayed edging to it that cut through the air as sharp as a blade.
He took a step closer, hunching his shoulders higher and tilting his head down due to the height difference. The stranger was easily over six foot and he towered over Simon like a bad omen of death, here to take him down to the underworld.
"What?"
"You need to leave (Y/n) alone."
(Y/n).
The girl Simon had just been on a date with? The girl he had just parted ways with at the bar only ten minutes ago?
Why would this stranger need to give Simon a warning about (Y/n)? Why was he warding him away from her?
She was the one who had asked Simon out again tonight. They met in a cafe two weeks ago, went on a date last week and had been on a second date tonight. She was the shy type. The type of girl who had her face buried in a book and her soul hidden behind protective layers that took time to scrape through and see the girl hiding beneath. Who was this man, to her?
"I don't understand-"
"Then I'll simplify." Evan latched his fingers around Simon's throat before he could finish his sentence. He dug his short nails into his neck, pinched his thumb over his pulse so he could feel the artery in his neck throb and ignite with panic.
His left arm moved to pin across Simon's lanky, thin chest and with very little effort, Evan shoved him back against the brick wall behind him.
He squeezed his throat just tight enough to have tears welling up in his eyes and cause his lips to part in panic. He struggled for breath, gurgling and gasping as Evan pinched his throat so he only had partial use over his airways. He needed him frightened and compliant. He needed Simon to listen to what he was going to tell him and to heed his warning carefully.
"On your next date with (Y/n), you tell her you don't wanna be with someone like her. She's not your type. And you leave her the fuck alone."
"W-why?" Simon's voice was nothing but a gargle, a cat mewling in the midnight air. Begging for someone to walk past and see this altercation and help him. To get this freaked stranger off him before he crushed his windpipe or strangled him to death.
"Because she's mine."
Those three little words were as dangerous as a gun being aimed in his face. They were fire and ice, life and death, sun and moon all combined together in one big combustion.
(Y/n) was his. She was Evan's girl.
And he didn't care if she instagated this date or not, another one wasn't going to happen. He wasn't allowing this guy to take his girl away from him.
She wanted a break. She took a step back from her relationship with Evan, but he knew she would come running back to him when she realised how deeply he loved her and what their relationship meant to them both. She walked out of their flat and had been living with a friend. She didn't know Evan was still checking on her, making sure she was okay, that she got home from work safely, that she wasn't meeting strangers and getting herself into trouble.
He had left everything in their flat the way it was, he didn't move her clothes or their pictures or her hairbrush or anything in the bathroom. He was wating for her to come back. She hadn't taken a lot of her stuff with her and she hadn't come back for the rest yet, clearly she wasn't finished with their relationship like she pretended she was.
"After you break things off, I don't want you near her again. If you so much as look at my girl⌠well, I'll have to get creative."
The smile that formed on Evan's lips was more than frightening, more than sinister and much worse than pure terror.
(Y/n) was Evan's girl; his one and only. She was the one for him and he wouldn't have anyone else trying to hurt her or take her away from him. This guy needed to stay away from her for his own sake, or Evan would have to take more drastic action to make him pay attention to the rules laid out before him.
When Simon started to bash his hand down on Evan's wrist and then his elbow to try and gain some air, Evan obliged. He loosened his grip enough to let strangled gurgles leave Simon's lips as he gasped for breath.
"Understand?"
"Y-you're derranged-"
With a shake of his head and a chiding click of his tongue, Evan grabbed the hand that was about to land a very frail attempt at a punch on his jaw. In one swift motion, Evan bent his index and middle finger back until the tips of his fingers were touching the back of his hand, earning a howl from Simon at the same time as a sickening crunch tore through the air.
"Do you understand?"
"Yes! Fuck! Yes, j-just let me go." Tears drenched Simon's face as he pleaded and nodded his head until his neck ached and felt like his head was going to drop off.
He understood. He was listening. He knew his orders. He would stay the Hell away from (Y/n) if this guy was going to be hovering around her like a bad omen. He would stay away from her. He didn't need this kind of trouble and he wasn't getting involved in whatever mess she had going on here. This unfinished business had nothing to do with Simon. He wanted nothing to do with it.
Evan said nothing, but his smile was satisfactory. He took two steps back and watched with a grin as Simon slumped down to his knees like he was praying to the Devil himself.
He seemed to have learned his lesson.
Now all Evan had to do was stand back and wait. He knew (Y/n) like the back of his hand. She would come back to him in no time, and he would be waiting.
***
Swaying on her feet, (Y/n) leaned forward until her left shoulder banged into the familiar doorframe. Her right hand wavered and made the keychain hooked on her thumb jingle out a strange tune.
She tried her best to fiddle with the keys, but the chain wouldn't unhook from her thumb and her nimble fingers were trembling too harshly for her to find the right key. She had too many on the chain. Why did she even keep the key for the apartment in the first place?
This wasn't her home anymore.
She hadn't been back here in almost a month. She hadn't stepped foot inside, not to collect her clothes or her books or her jewellery or the little nicnacs she had made and was rather proud of. (Y/n) was too afraid to come back and bump into Evan in the process. He would make it harder to leave, and walking out with a small bag of clothes had been the hardest thing she had ever done in the beginning.
A groan tumbled past her lips and she slumped her forehead onto the cold wood, relishing in the way it cooled down her burning skin and relieved the headache pounding in her temple.
The chain finally unhooked from her thumb and when the metal sang as it collided with the floor, (Y/n) bashed her hand limply against the door.
"Evan?" His name trembled past her lips like a song she was too afraid to sing in fear of the consequences it would ensnare.
Evan loves you. That's why you're here right now. He's going to take care of you.
It was all (Y/n) could process.
If she wasn't drunk to the point of passing out, (Y/n) wouldn't have come back here to the place that still felt like home. The place she had moved into after only two months of dating Evan.
If she weren't drunk as a skunk, (Y/n) would have told herself some cold, hard truths that would make her turn around and go home.
Evan is obsessive.
He checks your phone. He won't let you go out alone without him. He won't let you take a phone call in another room.
He needs an exact schedule of your day, your week, your month so he knows every movement you make. Keeping you safe is his priority, but smothering you is the cost that comes with it.
He thinks you're the one for him and if you leave, the world will end. He is always anxious about you leaving him, it fuels the fire burning inside him and makes him controlling.
Give me your phone! Where are you going? Why don't you want me to go with you? Why won't you tell me where you're going? Can't you see I need to look after you? I need to keep you safe! Too many people get hurt in this world and I have to protect you. I can't let you leave. Why won't you let me look after you? Where are you going?!
The alcohol blocked out all of those thoughts. The vodka made them blurry, the shot of whiskey watered them down. The cocktails turned them into sludge and washed them along the river. Everything drained out of her head until the only thing left was the one truth (Y/n) could conceive. Evan loved her, and she needed some love tonight.
"(Y/n)- hey, you okay?"
When the door opened, (Y/n) didn't realise how much weight she had leaned onto the door, or how heavy her head was. Until the door opened and her body slumped forward like a pendulum.
A broken gasp broke past her lips but her head met with a hard, familiar chest that smelled like leather and pine. Her wet lips pressed into a cotton shirt that felt like the softest cloud beneath her skin and she almost started to kiss it. Her arms curled around a familiar waist that was broad and large and stocky. Her very own weighted comfort.
A large hand softly planted down on her back between her shoulder blades and the chest took all of her weight for her as if she weighed nothing more than a bag of sugar.
"Hi,"
It was clear the moment (Y/n) tilted her head back and pressed her chin into Evan's chest that she was drunk. Her eyelids were halfway over her eyes which were blown wide with pupils that were dancing around like stars. Her lips spread into a wide, lopsided grin and the soft, laboured breaths she took showed how drunk she had gotten tonight.
Saying nothing, Evan pressed his lips to the top of her head and let go of the doorframe so he could take a step back. He kept his arm curved around her waist and let her slump against him and stumble inside their flat.
Once the door was closed, Evan made quick work of bolting it shut and drawing the chain across before he looked down at the girl in his arm who melted his heart.
"Are you okay?" Evan's voice was as soft as melted butter and it made heat rise to (Y/n)'s cheeks and had her smile turning cheeky and flushed and embarrassed.
He did care. Evan was the only person in the world who cared about her. The only person she could rely on, despite his obsessive, protective tendencies that frightened her. What was fear compared to the love he made her feel?
"Can I stay with you? I d- I don't wanna be alone⌠or with Lacey." (Y/n) hiccupped through her words but her arms tightened around Evan's waist until he took a sharp breath. His eyes were enamoured by her and he took the time to drink in every inch of her that he could. He drank in her plump lips that looked even softer and thicker than the last time he kissed them. He was having withdrawal symptoms every day just thinking about those lips.
He raked his eyes over the dress she was wearing. Dark blue. His favourite colour. Did she dress up just for him? Did she know that off the shoulder look was going to aggravate him into wanting to rip that material off her arms and ravage her right here in the hall?
Did she know that it started to flutter around her thighs and stick to them when she started to sweat? Did she know not wearing any tights just gave Evan a better view of her plump thighs that he wanted to lay between until the world ended?
(Y/n) didn't want to go back to Lacey's apartment where she had been staying since she left Evan.
She didn't want to go there where her friend would already be in bed and she would be alone with her thoughts and the drowning knowledge that nobody wanted her. Simon broke it off with her. Two dates was all it took for him to say she wasn't his type. She seemed clingy. He couldn't get into another relationship right now. He wasn't ready for that. For her.
The only place (Y/n) could think to go that would make her feel comforted and loved was here. Her old home, with Evan. With someone who worshipped the ground she walked on and would love her like she depended on him to breathe.
"Then you'd better come in." Evan's voice was comforting and quiet and rolled in one ear and out the other, but in a good way.
He slid her bag off her shoulder and slung it on the second hook on the wall that still had her denim jacket and her raincoat hung up. He curved his arm tight around her waist and dug his fingers lovingly into her hip while he leant down and slid her high heels off her aching feet.
When she got drunk, her mind would wander. She sought the reassurance she couldn't get the courage to find when she was sober. She clung to Evan like her world, her life, depended on him. She kissed him and attached herself to him and became clingy and needy in such a way that made Evan feel like he had taken a dose of ecstasy and was on top of the world.
He knew he was needed when she clung to him and kissed him and ravaged him and begged him to tell her everything was okay. To tell her that he loved her.
He guided her towards the kitchen until (Y/n) turned to face him.
Her arms bound tight around his waist until her hands were on his upper back and he could feel her nails scratching through his shirt. She tilted her head down and suddenly smothered her face into the centre of his chest, squishing her nose against his sternum and fanning her hot breaths against his skin that was getting flushed already.
"Missed you." She murmured softly into his chest, so quiet that Evan almost missed the words. But they made him grin.
Simon had done as Evan had asked. (Y/n) had come back to him. Evan wasn't going to let her leave again.
"I missed you too, baby."
Evan kept his right arm around (Y/n)'s waist and moved his left hand to cup the back of her neck. His head tilted down until his lips and nose were smothered in her hair and he breathed in the scent of her lemon shampoo that drove him wild.
He swayed them both from side to side, feeling the way (Y/n) grinned into his shirt and he was sure she was starting to kiss his chest too.
"Don't wanna be aloneâŚ" Her voice was as quiet as the evening breeze drifting by outside. And Evan felt each word vibrate through his chest and into his heart. She knew he would never let her be alone. He would always look after her and shower her with love and show her exactly how much she meant to him.
That was why she was here. She was here because she didn't have the strength or the willpower to stay away now she was drunk. Her defences were down and she couldn't fight herself to stay away from Evan. She wanted to be loved and Evan was more than ready to do that for her.
"You're home now, you're not gonna be alone."
Moving his hand around from her neck to her face, Evan gently pinched her chin between his thumb and finger and lifted her head up from his chest. He wanted to see her. He wanted to look down into her eyes and see the stars that twinkled within them. He wanted her to look at him like she always used to; with love and adoration and wanting.
His thumb brushed across her lower lip and he tugged it down, noticing the dark patch in the corner where she had anxiously bitten a layer of skin off.
He couldn't resist any longer. He crashed his lips down against hers, tasting the infusion of vodka, whiskey and all sorts of alcoholic combinations on her sweet lips. His tongue battled against hers, winning the fight easily and stealing the gasp she elicited into his mouth.
His fingers crushed down around her hip as if making sure she wasn't a figment of his imagination trying to tease him.
Their lips parted for all of a second, just enough for (Y/n) to draw in a sharp breath to push away the dizziness in the front of her mind. And then his lips were back on hers, savouring her taste, drinking her in, swallowing her whole and consuming every inch of her that he could get.
When he walked her back, (Y/n) stumbled along, letting him drive her in any direction he wanted until her back collided with the kitchen wall.
A groan bubbled up in her chest but Evan swallowed it down, crashing his teeth against her lower lip until the metallic taste of iron trickled onto both their tongues.
Her heels scraped against the floor to keep herself upright and a dull ache throbbed in her shoulders and the back of her head when Evan kept her head tilted back and pushed into the wall. But he kept her pinned in place with his hard chest that collided with hers and crushed her between him and the wall.
His fingers roughly let go of her chin to glide back round and cup the back of her neck, curling his fingers into her hair so he could give a sharp tug and tilt her head up to be more at his level.
(Y/n) finally found some control over her limbs and wiggled her arms out from around Evan's chest so she could loop them around his neck instead. Her fingers dragged over the back of his neck and raked up, scratching against his skin until she felt him shivering against her and groaning into her mouth.
"EvanâŚ"
She wasn't sure what she was asking him or trying to convey, but it didn't really matter. Evan seemed to have complete control and (Y/n) was more than willing to surrender to him.
Her heart rocketed in her chest and she felt adrenaline pooling in her stomach and travelling down her limbs when his hands moved. He let go of her neck but the way his chin pressed into hers kept her head tilted at just the angle he needed her in to keep devouring and biting her lips.
One hand travelled down until his fingers were splayed out in the middle of her back, pressing her chest fully against his so there wasn't even a membrane of space between them. But it was his other hand that (Y/n) started to focus on. His fingers scrunched up in the hem of her dress that had already ridden up her legs and became glued to her thighs.
With one sharp tug, Evan raked her dress up over her thighs until it was bunched over her hips, exposing her black laced underwear.
She gasped for air when Evan finally released her sore, bruising lips and though her fingers stayed curled around the back of his neck, she watched him tilt his head down. His chin pressed into his chest and his head leaned to the right so he could get a look at the underwear she was wearing.
The smile that formed on his lips was devilish and made his blue eyes darken three shades.
He hooked a finger into the lace and pulled it back, watching with glee as it snapped into (Y/n)'s hip and made her jump forward against him.
"Come're." His growl made (Y/n)'s knees go weak and she could feel herself about to slide down against him into a puddle on the floor. But his hand secured around the back of her thigh, dangerously close to her underwear and he gave a sharp pull. He lifted her leg until she hooked it over his hip and when he pulled, (Y/n) took the hint.
She lifted her right leg over his other hip and let him hoist her up onto his torso. Her arms bound tighter around his neck and she took the opportunity to smother her face against his neck while his fingers dug deeply into her thighs which would leave bruises in his wake in the morning.
(Y/n) let her hazy eyes fall closed and breathed in Evan's scent that felt like another wave of alcohol washing over her, intoxicating her to the max. Her wet lips started to create hollow kisses up and down from his shoulder up towards his jaw. And when she grazed her teeth over his skin, a dark hum vibrated through Evan's chest and made her stomach jolt.
She realised he was walking out of the kitchen and he lifted her higher on his hips so he could make quick work of climbing the stairs.
(Y/n)'s head started to spin and she opened her eyes, watching the light fixture spin in clockwise circles above her when Evan laid her down on the bed. The alcohol was starting to take a different kind of effect. She didn't want to keep her eyes open but the room continued to spin even when she closed them.
She could feel her hands trembling against the back of Evan's neck and she clung to him tighter, breathing through her nose to clear her head.
She almost whimpered when he unhooked her hands from his neck and started to retreat down her body. She thought he was leaving her. Maybe Evan thought she was too drunk and was going to let her sleep it off.
Electric sparks flickered through (Y/n)'s thighs when Evan laid on his chest between her legs and started to place open-mouthed kisses along her inner thighs. She felt his fingers hook into the top of her underwear and her head spun faster when he slowly dragged them down her thighs and flung them somewhere in the room.
"I'm glad you came back, baby." Evan was more than glad, more than relieved, more than grateful that she was back.
And he wasn't going to let her leave again.
***
Oh God, what had she done?
(Y/n)'s limbs felt like bars of gold when she brought a hand up to rub across her eyes and try to open them properly. She was thankful for the blackout blinds in the bedroom. They stopped the light from blinding her this morning and showing off her shame.
She could feel her heart rocketing up into her throat, closing off her airways when she looked down at her chest.
It wasn't a dream. Nor was it a vague memory. She had slept with Evan last night. The proof was Evan himself, wrapped around her like a blanket.
His head was laid comfortably in the middle of her chest, his nose tickling her skin and his sandy curls swept across her collar bone. He had both arms curled around her like she was a teddy he was clinging to in his sleep and his body was resting comfortably between her legs. Well, Evan seemed comfy. (Y/n), on the other hand, was aching. Her hips were bent outwards to accommodate him resting between her legs and from how stiff her joints felt and how accustomed she now felt to him laying on her, (Y/n) guessed they had been like this all night.
She didn't mean for this to happen.
(Y/n) didn't want to end up in bed with him like this. It wasn't what she planned. Hell, she didn't even plan to go back home with Simon after the date they were supposed to have last night.
Crawling back into bed with Evan only made this sticky situation worse because it made it that much harder for (Y/n) to walk away from him for good.
(Y/n) dropped her hand from her face and let her palm rest on Evan's shoulder and the touch made him groan into her bare chest.
He was always a light sleeper. (Y/n) could never walk out on Evan during the night because he woke at the slightest sound. If she moved in bed, his arm would suddenly secure around her and bind her to him like fate keeping them together. If she tried to get up before him, he would wake up and pin her down to the bed.
Trying to make a quiet exit this morning would be impossible with him laid on her like this, and something told (Y/n) this was part of the plan.
"Morning." Evan's rough, gritty voice sent shockwaves through (Y/n)'s system and woke her up immediately.
She stayed perfectly still as Evan moved his arms so his hands were planted down on the mattress either side of her arms and he turned his head to kiss her collar bone delicately. His lips worked their way up her skin, making their own path along her neck as he crawled up her body and hovered over her.
Hovering over her like this allowed (Y/n) to take a proper breath, but it also let her feel every ache and bruise she now had. Her shoulders were tense, her thighs were aching and surely bruised and she didn't want to look and see what marks Evan had left down her neck and across her chest.
"Here, take these for the headache."
(Y/n) didn't see him move and she stayed still as Evan pecked her lips and dropped a packet of painkillers on the pillow beside her from his bedside drawer. He knew exactly how rough she would be feeling and she figured she didn't look her best self either.
Her eyes followed him as he slowly climbed off her, shrugging on his boxers before he headed downstairs to the bathroom.
She didn't want to move. Her head was still pounding and when she sat up, the room tilted at an angle and sent her head swaying from left to right.
She had to leave.
(Y/n) had to be quick and leave the room before Evan managed to keep her here. He was the kind of person to pin her to the bed and distract her or he would wrap around her and sweet-talk her until she gave in and stayed here with him.
It was for her own safety that she had to leave.
Her legs trembled when she slumped off the bed and took a look around. Wearing last night's clothes wasn't an option today. (Y/n) had no idea where Evan had thrown her bra or underwear last night. And when she leaned down and picked up her dress, her lips pressed into a thin line and she dropped the material back down to the floor.
Evan had ripped it. As she tried to think back, (Y/n) had a vague memory of his hands roughly yanking the straps off her arms and tugging it down her waist. If she closed her eyes, she could hear the material shredding and the threads pulling apart.
"Thanks, Evan." She huffed to herself and shuffled towards the wardrobe in the corner of the room.
Everything was still in its place. (Y/n) thought Evan would have bagged everything up when she walked out. She thought he would have binned her things or bagged them so she could come and get them later. But she should have realised he wouldn't move anything. He wouldn't get rid of her things because Evan wanted her to come home, he would leave everything as it was because he didn't take no for an answer and he didn't believe their relationship was over.
In haste to try and make a quick escape, (Y/n) shrugged on some underwear, a bra, a pair of jogging bottoms and one of Evan's shirts. Somehow, despite all of her clothes staring her right in the face, she picked Evan's attire.
It's easier. It's quicker. Getting dressed in his clothes was quicker than fiddling with one of her shirts or dresses or fighting with a pair of tight jeans.
Her hands shook and her head pounded as she ignored the painkillers Evan had found for her and hurried down the stairs. Her eyes cast around the room to try and find her purse. She wasn't sure where she left it last night, or where her shoes were. Walking home in high heels was going to be a killer.
"What's the rush?"
His voice rattled (Y/n) down to her core and she spun on her heels to find Evan stood leaning against the wall in the hallway.
"I- Evan I'm sorry⌠I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have come round last night-"
"Yes you should. You came home."
She couldn't help but cringe at his words. Technically, (Y/n) did come home. This was her old home. This was the only home she had so far, she hadn't gotten around to taking her name off this flat. Her post still came here, her job still thought this was her address and she hadn't found a new place to rent on her own.
But (Y/n) couldn't stay here. She couldn't get back into this predicament of telling Evan where she went every time she had to leave the flat. She couldn't handle the constant messages and calls and how he would glare and push her behind him if anyone tried to talk to her that he didn't know.
She couldn't handle his obsessive nature that was getting out of control. She turned into his possession instead of his partner. She felt like someone under twenty four hour observation who couldn't take one step out the flat without Evan knowing where she was going and who she was going to be with.
"I'm gonna go-"
"No, baby, you're not. You're not going anywhere, you need to stay with me."
Evan moved within the blink of an eye and a croaky gasp left (Y/n)'s lips when his hands found her waist and her back suddenly hit the wall. Her eyes snapped closed and she couldn't bite back her whimper when her already aching body pinned into the wall.
"Evan I can't." Her voice was feeble and she knew he didn't believe or listen to her words. And when his lips attached to the side of her neck, (Y/n) pushed her arms into his chest and scrambled out of his grasp towards the door.
It was locked. Her fingers shook as she unhooked the chain across the top of the door but when she flung her hand in the dish on the side cabinet, she froze. The keys weren't there. Evan always kept his keys in the dish so if he had to leave in an emergency or for a last minute shift, he could always get out on time and as fast as possible.
Where were her keys? She still had her key to the flat on her keys- oh no. She dropped them last night. She didn't unlock the door, Evan had unlocked it last night to let her in.
"Where are the keys? W-where's my bag?" (Y/n) darted her eyes around the hallway but she could feel her heart dropping down to her stomach like a stone sinking into a lake.
She couldn't see her bag, she knew she had come over with her bag because it held her phone, her purse, her ID, her work ID badge. Everything important was in that bag and she had it on her last night when she went out. She must have come over here with it. She knew she did. What was Evan up to? What was he doing?
"Evan⌠what are you doing?" She was almost too afraid to ask.
Her eyes followed him as he pushed off the wall, dragging one rough hand across his lips and down his chin and jaw. The action was so slow and methodical that (Y/n) couldn't help but shiver. She watched him stalk closer to her, his hair askew in all directions, his muscles tense and free on display. The only piece of clothing on him being the boxers hanging dangerously low on his hips.
"I told you you're not leaving." Evan's hand was unusually soft as it curled around her upper arm and he slowly dragged her away from the door. "The only way that door will open, is if this relationship is patched up again. Otherwise, you're staying exactly where I can see you."
Bile rose in the back of (Y/n)'s throat and she shuddered as his words started to sink in.
He wasn't going to let her leave.
He had locked the door and hidden the keys. He had plugged her bag away somewhere in the flat so she couldn't find her phone and call for help. Their apartment was on the fifth floor, (Y/n) couldn't climb out the bedroom window or get out onto the balcony and find her way down to the ground without risking her life.
The only way she could leave was by finding the keys and risking making a break for it. Or by agreeing to work things out and getting back into a relationship with Evan.
(Y/n) took a step back but when Evan stalked closer, he looked just like a demon coming to claim her soul. The light from the balcony windows shone across on him and created a halo of light around him while his face and chest basked in darkness.
He advanced towards her, following her as she moved past the kitchen and stumbled into the living room. Her eyes swept around frantically, trying to search for anything she could use to either defend herself or break the lock on the front door to get out. But all she could focus on was the photos littering the apartment.
Dozens of them. Evan with his arms wrapped around her. (Y/n)'s cheesy smile as Evan rested his chin on top of her head due to their height difference. A picture of them both with Chris and Eddie on a day out to the zoo. A picture of them at Christmas. One of them with the team at the summer party a couple of months back.
Each photo showed how strange their relationship could twist. In half the photos on the walls, Evan simply had an arm around (Y/n) or his hand on her back. But in others, he was wrapped tightly around her like a predator trying to squeeze the life out of her and keep her safe and secured to him. No one else would be able to notice, but (Y/n) could tell which photos showed Evan in one of his manic moods.
His eyes always gave it away.
"Evan⌠baby, please don't do this. I was wrong to come over last night⌠I stayed the night and I hurt you-" (Y/n) cut herself off when she saw the way Evan's expression changed.
"You came home. Come on (Y/n) you admitted you missed me and I know you still love me. Let's talk."
Biting her lip, (Y/n) found herself nodding and she backed up towards the sofa and slumped down just as her trembling knees started to give way beneath her. She coiled her arms to her chest and flopped her head back on the sofa, but her heartbeat quickened when Evan sat down next to her.
He sat so close that their knees were touching and when he laid a hand on her thigh, she didn't have the nerve to pull away.
The way he tipped his head back so casually almost made (Y/n) feel like they had gone back in time to when they first bought this flat almost half a year ago. Back when (Y/n) didn't feel like she was smothered, like she was someone's possession and when she thought Evan's expressions of love were the best things in the world and life couldn't get any better.
"I never said I didn't love you," (Y/n) spoke quietly, her eyes focusing down on her hands that stayed rigid and frozen on her lap.
Her words seemed to have the opposite effect, although (Y/n) wasn't sure what kind of effect she was hoping for. But his hand on her thigh wasn't it. She felt like shrinking back and disappearing, but her body stayed motionless even as Evan leaned closer until his face was inches from hers.
"I want you to stay." He spoke as if (Y/n) didn't know that. She knew he wanted her to stay here, stay home, stay with him. The locked door gave that message away loud and clear. "You belong with me, you know I love you and I'd do anything for you. Anything."
Anything but let her go.
His lips attached to the side of her neck and when his chest merged with hers, (Y/n) couldn't stop him from leaning his weight onto her. She let him carefully push her back into the sofa and pin his hands near her head and the other next to her hip. Caging her in beneath him. Binding her to him.
"Tell me you'll stay. Tell me you'll come home to me." His words sounded like a command, something (Y/n) didn't want to disobey in fear of how he would react if she said no.
What choice did she have? She couldn't leave if she didn't agree, Evan wouldn't let her. She couldn't say yes and then disappear, Evan would find her. She couldn't start a new life without him, he wouldn't allow it to happen. And no one else seemed to want to be around her or in a relationship with her.
Evan did. He was here, he loved her, although he loved her far too much for his or her own good, he still loved her unconditionally.
When he worked his way up to her lips and stole a gentle, tepid kiss, (Y/n) watched his face hover over hers. She locked her eyes onto his blue orbs and felt his nose nudge against hers. She felt his breaths entwining with hers, his lips tickling hers as they barely touched, barely parted. His fingers dug into her waist. His chest pressed down on hers, his heart beating rapidly in tandem with hers.
"Tell me," He murmured against her lips, stealing another kiss. Then another, and another until (Y/n) felt positively drunk again and she couldn't think straight.
"I'll stay."
