Understand completely--del Toro is amazing. However, I admit I have enjoyed reading Sagan's works so I'm crossing fingers that this will be a solid screenplay and film.
Based on AG's interviews in the past where he's mentioned his interest involving certainty versus doubt, Sagan would be an intriguing dive for him into a role. Sagan (like Doss; Sebastiao Rodrigues-who was based upon the Jesuit missionary, Giuseppe Chiara; JIm Bakker; and Robin Cavendish) lived a life filled with questions. Some of these roles were posing questions we, the viewers, might ask ourselves about faith, society, challenges, prejudice, persecution, and so on. Seems like an opportunity for Mr. Garfield to explore those questions within the framework of the love story between Sagan and his third wife, Ann Druyan.
I wish he could've done both but what with the strike delaying production on so many projects, there's bound to be issues like this. Hopefully we'll get two good movies and AG will be in one of them!
I, in addition to watching the Golden Globe's with the complete absence of Andrew Garfield in it, still come across this Netflix post:

Me:

Me too, at Andrew Garfield's door to convince him to comeback to "Frankenstein" movie:
Netflix, telling me:

Me:

Me too:

That's it.
*end of my outburst*

Forever obsessed with this pic of Andrew Garfield and Alexandra Shipp ❤️
The absolute best at AG content and appreciation: @sincericida has created a veritable calendar of moments from the past year. Pick a favorite? No can do as each captures a snapshot in time of the actor we love to watch on film and in life. Enjoy life! It's but a blip in the universe but as we are unique, we share so much in common. Here's to many blessings and memories made in the coming year. Cheers!

ANDREW GARFIELD
being fashion icon in 2023 appreciation post
I'd like to add a slightly different take on this, along with some nuance from the movie(s).
The boy/men (with the tendencies) seem unable to grasp: along with nerdish likes & hobbies, Peter is genuinely kind at heart. He has courage. *Courage is being brave enough to do the right thing even when afraid. Gwen said to Peter, "I love that you're Spider-man, but I love Peter Parker more" and it's true--she was attracted to him before he ever got bitten by the radioactive spider at Oscorp, because she witnessed his kindness to others and that, in itself, can certainly accentuate innate attractiveness. It takes courage to be kind in a world full of hate.
Hollywood likes to emphasize the myth that the nerd must become strong in order to conquer his/her foes and win love, but the disconnect comes when the male viewer fails to see that it was the kindness that created the initial spark. Sometimes that spark leads to friendship and beyond. Not just in the movies. Perhaps they should go out and with real sincerity try it.
*IMO, fear is an important element of courage. Consider the words of Mark Twain:
"Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear—not absence of fear. Except a creature be part coward it is not a compliment to say it is brave; it is merely a loose misapplication of the word. Consider the flea!—incomparably the bravest of all the creatures of God, if ignorance of fear were courage. Whether you are asleep or awake he will attack you, caring nothing for the fact that in bulk and strength you are to him as are the massed armies of the earth to a sucking child; he lives both day and night and all days and nights in the very lap of peril and the immediate presence of death, and yet is no more afraid than is the man who walks the streets of a city that was threatened by an earthquake ten centuries before." --Pudd'nhead Wilson's Calendar
I think the whole "Peter Parker is ugly" is their self-projection, because they can't comprehend the fact that Peter gets more cooch in one day than they did in their entire miserable lives, because they can't interact with women.
Yes, it may be an unpopular opinion what I will say next, but I always thought that Peter’s version of Sam Raimi created a certain identification among boys/ men with incel tendencys.
On An Evening In Roma...
The late great crooner Dean Martin got it right for sure. When in Rome, strolling along in the twilight is magical and doesn't Florence look ready for adventure!

Florence Pugh | Valentino accessories | Street Style: Rome | 2024
Another great ensemble cast, another star in the series (although the first was my fave thus far). Janelle Monáe deserves a mention, too. So talented at so many things.
