I Want Someone To Write A Book Where Mermaids Are The Women Thrown Off Ships When The Sailors Got Afraid

I want someone to write a book where Mermaids are the women thrown off ships when the sailors got afraid because having a woman on the boat is bad luck. And as they sink to the bottom, legs tied together, they change slowly until they can breathe, until they can use their tied up legs to swim. And they drown sailors in revenge, luring them in by singing in their husky voices still stinging from the salt water they breathed.

Place of Us

Your scars lay me to 

          waste (mine don’t compare).

A lonely place where trees stop growing,

where flower petals are rubbed between fingertips and water ripples, 

        time spins in lazy circles. 

This  — this is where we meet.

Rain in sheets across the lake

         (a place of unspoken trepidations),

where nothing can be added, 

nothing to be withdrawn.

Raindrops will come as they please — they don’t take requests. 

         So you and me? We watch.

What Feeds Us

In my mind lies a garden of lush greenery, a forest, a field, a sanctuary: a place of hidden depths.

Walls built high protect things of beauty. Just as clear skies project calm unfelt within

In the center of it all there grows a tree, and it stands above the rest, a sentinel.

Beneath its limbs lie my secret thoughts, dangerous with their painful, jagged edges.

Thoughts that act as roots, sinking deep, feed the tree which shelters them.

Wind shakes the crown of my last defense, rustling its purple foliage.
