FINDING OUT

even before finding out you were pregnant, you both had so much love for your child

there was nothing either of you could have wanted more than a baby

it was always at the forefront of your mind how much you wanted a little human of your own

it was approaching a year since you began trying seriously

a few false hopes and two miscarriages later, fertility drugs were looking to improve the chances of conceiving

the raging hormones which came with the drugs were all worth the positive test

early september - sickness had hung around your throat for days

headaches lasted longer than usual, and crying at the most mundane things had become an unwelcome habit

in the bathroom cabinet, you’d collected a small stockpile of electronic and stick pregnancy tests

one of them would eventually show positive, right?

taehyung sat on the bathroom tiles with you

waiting two minutes felt closer to waiting two months

he crossed his legs, bouncing his knees impatiently

your knees came to your chin; high hopes weighed heavily on your heart

the alarm set on his phone beeped quietly

your heartbeat rose suddenly to your throat

taehyung reached out for your hand as you turned to read the results

two blue lines - as clear as day

they became less clear as your eyes coated with thick, salty tears

he began to chuckle as his happiness trickled down his cheeks

“we did it baby! we’re gonna have a baby!” he whispered, choked up by his own anticipation

no words were left swirling in your mind

your jaw hung open as though the hinges were faulty

shakily, you lifted the electronic test to triple check

pregnant.

as you crashed into taehyung’s open arms, memories of the past loomed in your mind

it was only inevitable

a positive test was a familiar joy to you both

however this familiar joy had only ever been followed by crippling devastation

as much as you tried not to think about it, you couldn’t help but retain maternal caution

however, this time also felt different

taehyung’s spirit, your spirit - it was as though fate didn’t want to disappoint you any more

someone out there decided it was finally your time to grow a mini human to bring into the world

of course, no time was wasted in contacting the maternity clinic

seeing your baby on a screen was now a top priority

just to see their little head, maybe even hear their heartbeat

just to know they were okay

just to know you were keeping them cosy and safe, that’s all you needed

taehyung couldn’t hold his excitement

from leaving the house to reaching the hospital, his toothy grin never wiped from his cheeks

he never said anything at the time since his main focus was always on comforting you

but losing his babies near enough tore him apart

even when you tried to comfort him, taehyung restricted himself just to protect your wellbeing

of course, the worse had already crossed his mind

but it wouldn’t get the better of him

it couldn’t.

you soon learned you were already 6 weeks pregnant

the midwife had to point out where your little baby was hanging out; they were such a tiny thing after all

briefly, you took the opportunity to hear their heartbeat

it was faint over the machine, but fast

there really was a life within you.

“there’s something else, if you just look over here…” the midwife prompted, turning the monitor so you could grasp a better view

taehyung leaned slightly over your chest to peer closely at the smaller monochrome screen

with the mouse, she circled a second bean shaped figure

“the fertility drugs increase the chance of twins. looks like you guys got lucky!”

twins. you were having twins.

Santa Baby (Taehyung x Reader Christmas Au)

Summary: After a miscarrage and a few years of trying to get pregnant- you finally give Taehyung the Christmas present he’s always wanted.

Authors Note: Just a short fluffy thing i though of while sleeping, i think it took me a solid 30 minutes to write this- ive always loved the idea of father!tae. i think he’d just be such a little fluff. i’m still pretty sick- but im trying to get better. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

- You and Taehyung are married.

- And if you’re being honest, you've been trying to have children since before you were even engaged. 

- I think everyone knows that boy would be the best father and wants to have the largest happiest faimly. 

- After the miscarriage, you resolve to keep trying. 

- You can tell that Taehyung’s getting disheartened. Every time he sees a young couple with a baby his eyes linger and he holds onto your hand a little tighter- but you still keep trying. 

- And then one Christmas passes…

- And then another…

- And then 2 more…

- And there aren’t any cookies left for Santa by the fire or a third stocking hung from your mantel. 

- And he never tells you how sad it makes him- because when it comes down to it he doesn’t want a family if it’s not with you.

- And this Christmas he’s been thinking a lot about asking you to adopt- he knows that after the fraught past you have with trying to conceive it probably won’t go over well.

- He doesn’t want to ruin Christmas- but he can’t imagine going through this next year, the emptiness he feels.

- Little does he know that you’ve been feeling strange for the last few weeks- after all, you never really stopped trying with Taehyung (ie you don’t wear condoms and you’re not on birth control) 

- Your favorite holiday cookies almost made you vomit and your stomach feels a little more solid than usual, you’ve gained weight, your period hasn’t come in a while but you've never been regular so you don’t really think it means anything.

- A week before Christmas you take the test- and oh boy- you go to the doctor just to make sure.

- How can you be 4 months pregnant and have no idea? This is beyond you. but the droctors say that unlike last time- this baby looks completly healthy- and you’ve passed a few milestones that make the risk of another miscarriage almost nonexistant.

- On the way back you get a little pair of boots and get them gift wrapped with the ultrasound underneath the little botties. Tae’s not home but you put it under the tree anyway. 

- He doesn’t notice it. Small next to the other large presents already under your tree, he notices how happy you are the next few days that he has off. 

- when he asks you just tell him that youre really feeling christmas this year- he just grins and tries to forget how sad he knows he’s going to make you when he finally asks you to give up trying for one of your own. 

- It’s christmas eve, you’re both cuddled on the couch underneath a fluffy blanket while he drinks eggnog and you drink warm tea. 

- And you’ve always had this tradition that you can choose one present to open before crhistmas day- and Tae decides to go first. 

- And he dosent go for the gucci shoes wrapped in the fancy wrapping paper- he goes for the tiny box, grinning at you saying “sometimes my favorite gifts are the small ones.” and you just gulp and stand- watching as he opens the small package without a care in the world. 

- He starts crying imediatly. He looks up at you with tears dripping down his face and asks in a choked quiet voice. “You’re pregnant?” and you nod, letting out a few tears of your own.

- “Check the bottom.” you say, and he’s holding onto the ultrasound like its a lifeline wiping his tears away- because youve been trying for so so long.

- “How far along?” he asks once he’s calmed down enough. “4 months- the doctors say it wont be like last time, that he’s healthy.” his crying is renewed as he finally stumbles forward and takes you into a tender embrace his hands fisting in the back of your baggy sweater as he sobs into your shoulder. 

- “It’s a boy? Jagiya…” he chokes out. Your hands reach up to smooth over his hair. 

- He’s so goddamn happy. he’d never thought he’d get this with you again. But now here it is- hope. You make him the happiest man alive. 

- He sinks to his knees and lifts your shirt to press kiss after kiss to your stomach. He twines his arms loosly around your hips and presses his cheek against your stomach. 

- “Thank you- for the best christmas present I could ever ask for y/n”

- After he stops crying he sits with you on the couch and talks animatedly about names about decorating the nursery again, about everything. All the while rubbing small soothing circles on your stomach. 

- Next cristmas- there isn’t 3 stockings on the matle, there are 4.  (though one of them wont be around for another few months.)
