Taehyung heard the small sniffles coming from the bathroom, though at first didn’t pay attention to it. Maybe you had just been blowing your nose in the bathroom, or maybe you got soap in your nose, he didn’t know exactly. When the sniffling didn’t end after a couple of moments, he got more worried about you.

He got up and made his way to the bathroom door, hearing the sniffles and small sobs a bit better now. Without knocking, he barged into the bathroom with the intention to help you feel better or at least stop you from crying.

“Why are you crying?” he asked, his arms engulfing you in a hug. On these kinds of moments, Taehyung could be overwhelming but he meant everything well and always wanted the best for you. “Because..” you said soft, unable to finish your sentence but showed him the positive pregnancy test instead. You weren’t sad, more embarrassed and scared. 

His eyes scanned the test, he didn’t need the manual to know that the two stripes meant that it was positive. “You’re pregnant!” he said with a wide smile, breaking into a fit of cute and happy giggles. “Tan is going to be a big brother! I can’t believe it!” he said happily.

His giggles and excitement made you smile as well, but still, another sob left your body, holding onto him tightly as you let out the last few sobs. 

“Why are you still crying!?”

“because I’m happy, you dork”

it was a cloudy friday afternoon, the sky was almost completely blanketed in hues of grey, the sun peeking through in only brief moments to brighten up the dimly lit school. you had completed your classes for the day and, having nearly finished tidying your classroom, had asked your boyfriend heeseung to wait under the stairs for you. you had only started dating recently and, because of the growing anxiety of exams looming over you both, you hadn’t really spent any time together as a couple. 

after putting away the last of the textbooks in a neat row across the shelf, you started to make your way out of the door, slinging your bag over your shoulder haphazardly. 

it wasn’t long before your boyfriend came into view, a momentary beam of sunlight casting a golden glow around his mahogany coloured hair making him look angelic. he was looking down at his phone, the soothing sounds of come over by dean & yerin baek pouring into his ears through his airpods, completely unaware of your presence. 

you reached out to put your hand on his arm, making him jump a little. ‘cute’, you thought to yourself as his mocha eyes landed on yours, a smile growing across his slightly flustered face. “what’re you listening to?”, you asked sweetly, making sure not to break his eye contact. he handed you one of his airpods with a reassuring smile in response, happy to share a part of him with you, be it small. 

you brought the earphone up to your ear, recognising the song almost instantly.

“i love this song”

you started nodding your head in time to the beat. 

“me too”

a contented heeseung mirrored your movements with an even bigger smile. the two of you moved your heads in sync, getting more enthusiastic with each motion. you felt that, even though this moment wasn’t momentous or anything, you and heeseung were at least spending time together and that was enough for you.

your moment was cut short, however, by the dulcet tone of the school bell ringing to indicate the end of the day. you knew that heeseung had a basketball elective after school, meaning you would have to go your separate ways again. heeseung hadn’t seemed to have heard the bell and was still swaying, eyes closed, to his favourite playlist. 

you took the opportunity to scan his face and all its delicate features, falling even more in love with him, if that was even physically possible. his bangs gracefully fell over his eyes, resting on his eyelashes, and the bridge of his nose was a subtle shade of blush. you didn’t know how you had got so lucky, heeseung truly was perfect in every way. 

your thoughts were interrupted once again upon hearing the movement of feet from the floor above. this prompted a thought to cross your head, ‘this would be a perfect time to kiss him for the first time’. you began to act on impulse, deciding that it was now or never.

tapping him on the shoulder, you inched closer to his body as he opened his eyes. this, he soon realised, was a pointless action because they would be intuitively forced shut again in a matter of seconds. you wasted no time to grab him gently by the collar of his basketball uniform, lifting your feet up to tiptoe while bringing your faces together. 

you captured his soft lips with yours as they moved completely in sync with each other.  sensing his eagerness, you teasingly pulled away to see his reaction. his lips followed yours as he instinctively leant further into a kiss you had already broken away from. the warm feeling of your pout still lingering on his slightly parted lips and his eyes still closed, you heard him whine slightly from the sudden lack of contact.

it didn’t take long for your lips to come into contact with his for a second time; he put you in a trance like state, his lips moulding so perfectly onto your own. it was as if every star in the sky had aligned in your favour, like your world had been spun into chaotic blur of honey shampoo and hazel doe-like eyes. as you pulled away again, you sweetly nibbled on his bottom lip, prompting a smile from a dazed heeseung. 

you made a mental note: his lips tasted like honey lip balm and iced coffee, a combination that you were more than happy to taste again.

to say he was left completely and utterly speechless would be an understatement. 

it took a second for his eyes to flutter open, cloudy with the feeling of bliss from the lingering warmth on his lips. he parted his lips to stutter a few syllables before closing them again, still evidently stunned, while you stood in front of him, struggling regain your own senses.

after a few more minutes of mutual brain fog, you managed to bring your sight up into his deep brown eyes. you noticed a smile curving across his face, now tinted red, and instinctively reached your hand out to grab onto his. his fingers intertwined with yours, his hand moulded so perfectly to the curves of your own. it was only a small action but it made the butterflies in your stomach go crazy, prompting your own cheeks to glow.

the warm feeling of new beginnings drifted throughout your body, the anticipation of many more future kisses making the tips of your ears glow.

FINDING OUT

even before finding out you were pregnant, you both had so much love for your child

there was nothing either of you could have wanted more than a baby

it was always at the forefront of your mind how much you wanted a little human of your own

it was approaching a year since you began trying seriously

a few false hopes and two miscarriages later, fertility drugs were looking to improve the chances of conceiving

the raging hormones which came with the drugs were all worth the positive test

early september - sickness had hung around your throat for days

headaches lasted longer than usual, and crying at the most mundane things had become an unwelcome habit

in the bathroom cabinet, you’d collected a small stockpile of electronic and stick pregnancy tests

one of them would eventually show positive, right?

taehyung sat on the bathroom tiles with you

waiting two minutes felt closer to waiting two months

he crossed his legs, bouncing his knees impatiently

your knees came to your chin; high hopes weighed heavily on your heart

the alarm set on his phone beeped quietly

your heartbeat rose suddenly to your throat

taehyung reached out for your hand as you turned to read the results

two blue lines - as clear as day

they became less clear as your eyes coated with thick, salty tears

he began to chuckle as his happiness trickled down his cheeks

“we did it baby! we’re gonna have a baby!” he whispered, choked up by his own anticipation

no words were left swirling in your mind

your jaw hung open as though the hinges were faulty

shakily, you lifted the electronic test to triple check

pregnant.

as you crashed into taehyung’s open arms, memories of the past loomed in your mind

it was only inevitable

a positive test was a familiar joy to you both

however this familiar joy had only ever been followed by crippling devastation

as much as you tried not to think about it, you couldn’t help but retain maternal caution

however, this time also felt different

taehyung’s spirit, your spirit - it was as though fate didn’t want to disappoint you any more

someone out there decided it was finally your time to grow a mini human to bring into the world

of course, no time was wasted in contacting the maternity clinic

seeing your baby on a screen was now a top priority

just to see their little head, maybe even hear their heartbeat

just to know they were okay

just to know you were keeping them cosy and safe, that’s all you needed

taehyung couldn’t hold his excitement

from leaving the house to reaching the hospital, his toothy grin never wiped from his cheeks

he never said anything at the time since his main focus was always on comforting you

but losing his babies near enough tore him apart

even when you tried to comfort him, taehyung restricted himself just to protect your wellbeing

of course, the worse had already crossed his mind

but it wouldn’t get the better of him

it couldn’t.

you soon learned you were already 6 weeks pregnant

the midwife had to point out where your little baby was hanging out; they were such a tiny thing after all

briefly, you took the opportunity to hear their heartbeat

it was faint over the machine, but fast

there really was a life within you.

“there’s something else, if you just look over here…” the midwife prompted, turning the monitor so you could grasp a better view

taehyung leaned slightly over your chest to peer closely at the smaller monochrome screen

with the mouse, she circled a second bean shaped figure

“the fertility drugs increase the chance of twins. looks like you guys got lucky!”

twins. you were having twins.
