GUYS, GUYS: MAX’S INTENT VS IMPACT LINE

I’VE JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING AND I FEEL LIKE A MAD LAD

max says there’s a difference between intent and impact (he learned it at an anti-bullying assembly last month) and then at the Waylon place, even after says the prank was meant to scare the shit out of Max, he’s still really grateful and says it’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for him

Intent: scare the shit out of Max

Impact: Max being super touched and happy

or if you wanna make it depressing

Intent: scare the shit out of Max

vs

Impact: Max ends up impaled on the floor boards

this prolly isn’t anything but I just think it’s kinda neat cause I never realized it before and it makes me strangely emotional??

A desk with important and confidential P.E.I.P files on it. There is a grainy polaroid depicting green tendrils and glowing, spotlight eyes. The unobstructed text on the top page reads, "" A voice calls out, cursive and dripping, "You've gotta have that memorized by now."
John MacNamara, shocked, simply says, "Cross." A green apple in hand, sickly cigarette in the other, Wilbur Cross grins, "Hey there, Johnny. Or is it General Johnny?" He takes a drag from his cigarette. John starts again, "Cross--" but is cut off by Wilbur coughing. "Ugh. I don't know how you deal with these," Wilbur complains. John stares at him.
John responds, "Practice." He leans back in his office chair, taking in Wilbur, who is lounging on the surface of his desk. He continues, "You're supposed to be missing." Wilbur considers, that antagonistic smile still on his face, and says, "Have you ever died, John?"
"No." John says. Wilbur, expecting, says, "Didn't think so. Indulge me in a thought experiment." The world goes dark. A figure stands in the midst of it. Wilbur says, "You are in a room."
"It has no walls, no ceiling, no floor." The figure runs. They're in a full suit, gloves, boots, and all. "There is no light," The figure stops for breath, doubled over. "but no shadow either." They look up, fear etched on their face. Something is coming.
"You can scream, but it's only static." The figure steps backwards, drawing the pistol at their side. "And you can't see a single damn thing," they point the gun at whatever's chasing them. "not even the hands in front of your face."
"You are dead," Wilbur concludes, lost in thought, "and this is hell." John holds something up.
"Oh," Wilbur realizes. John looks up with a determined stare. Wilbur smiles as he looks at the gun John is pointing at his head. "You can run all you like, John." John continues to stare.
John's desk. There's the stack of classified documents, a cup with writing untensils in it, his name plate, the door leading out of his office, and a Tickle-Me-Wiggly doll. The door has a bullet hole in it.
