since queen coral always forgets her sons’ names, it’s probably reasonable to assume she doesn’t name them, but do we think it was gill or someone else in the court who is appointed to take care of them? or did they even pick their own names when they got old enough? having a lot of thoughts about the seawing princes rn like how neglectful WAS coral really, did she take care of her sons at all and did she even bother to have other dragons looking after them and teaching them? probably yes, because they’re royalty and all, but i wonder what their lives are like. also does constantly popping out eggs like that have any physical effect on coral? how does procreation even work in wings of fire

REIMAGINED WINGS OF FIRE DRAGONS

This is a small project about redesigning Wings of Fire dragons with a small bit of speculative biology. Not evolution though; these creatures would barely evolve naturally.

Important mention: all of these redesigns are inspired by real life animals and creatures from Monster Hunter series. I do not own the originals, these are just fanart. Also, this artstyle isn't common for me, I mostly draw cartoony stuff.

SANDWINGS: inspired by scorpions, sand vipers, fennec foxes and sand cats, and also desert lizards.

SKYWINGS: inspired by eagles, hawks and pterosaurus.

LEAFWINGS: inspired by leaf-tailed geckos, anteaters and chameleons.

RAINWINGS: inspired by chameleons, boas and octopi.

NIGHTWINGS: inspired by bats and cave animals.

ICEWINGS: inspired by polar animals in general.

SEAWINGS: inspired by seals and catfish.

MUDWINGS: inspired by water buffalos and pseudosuchia.

BEETLEWINGS: an insect micry.

HIVEWINGS and SILKWINGS: inspires by wasps and moths. Descendants of BeetleWings.

Important mention 3: Lizard/Freedom. Because she is practically nothing out of these.

How to Spot a Dragon Before it Spots You!

(Written by a human for humans in the Wings of fire universe).

I was inspired by a bird of prey identification poster at my sister's school. It had a very similar layout. I really loved the coloured poses and the multiple silhouettes and thought it would work so well for the Wings of Fire dragons. I'd seen another artist experiment with their wings shapes and wanted to give it a try myself. This is the result! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

All the designs you see here are not final - I drew these without properly planning their full bodies, but the final versions I will try to keep as similar as possible. The only change I might make is the position of their wings. I also won't go back and change this because it doesn't need it. They look good enough like this and, who knows, the changes I make might not be enough that the final designs would be any different. I will be doing a lot of muscle and skeletal anatomy, possibly written in the perspective of a NightWing since they seem like the type to explore the insides of a dragon for science.

This, however, is written in the perspective of a very lucky human who saw these dragons and lived to tell the tale. Or maybe it was a collaborative effort between multiple people adding their own wisdoms, like the Dragon Manual in HTTYD 1. I haven't read Dragonslayer but I think they refer to the dragons as '[element] dragon' (not [Element]Wing at least). I also think that they're not sure RainWings exist (at least according to the 'Here Be Dragons?' over the rainforest, but I didn't want to exclude them from this piece).

The main purpose this guide would serve in-universe would be to help humans identify dragons, preferably before ever being seen. That's why I used a lot of auditory and movement descriptions unique to each tribe, ways that a person could identify a dragon without needing to be close.

I'll be splitting the closeups into 3 and 4 tribes each following this post so you're not scrolling for 10 years (you still will be but I'll try to keep it brief. Will I succeed? No!

I’d imagine that being cooped up in a cave all the time, the dragonets of destiny would probably rough house a lot. This would probably translate to them head butting each other like goats since they have horns.

In the upcoming chapter, Iridescent uses his enchanted mobility aid. So I’m finally trying to visualize it outside of my head so here’s the poopy concept for it

had some designs for these two laying around and finally got around to properly drawing them.

in the little headcannon I made, fire scales are bright blue because blues the hottest fire. then you have Ash scales, rarely they survive and those that do are a dark grey with flecks of fire across their feathers. sky in this design has patches of feathers missing due to being in contact with peril just after hatching.

Caiman adopted Little Bug, calling him by that nickname since it was one of the only words he knew. Also yes, he has a genetic mutation where he has two tails and two stingers/barbs. Yes, she loves him very much and also yes sometimes he gets really confused why mom doesn’t have a stinger at all.
