How could he maintain that exasperated demeanor any longer when all around him, Sakanade’s delight and happiness were so obvious? His mindscape practically reflected his zanpakuto’s giddy, thrumming joy - the brightness of a perfect Spring afternoon. Warm, golden rays of the sun beating down on him after the light mist . A huge, iridescent rainbow framing the Hanging Gardens. The colorful flora and fauna thriving so resplendently in response to their mistress’ infectiously effervescent mood that his Inner World was all the more a brilliantly beautiful place for it. Truly, Sakanade was such an intrinsic part of himself that without her, would he still be the same anymore?

He pretended to stagger when the smiling child sprite leapt at him, but yet, at the same time, an answering, irrepressible grin pulled at his lips, his arms wrapped securely around her, protective of the precocious young girl just as surely as she had watched over him for as long as he had ever known. But this enduring bond between sword and master was not something that had developed overnight. It had taken them both a long, long time to arrive at this level of seamless trust and camaraderie. She was first and foremost the sister he never had, infinitely precious even as she was also his blade and faithful battle companion.
She was also every bit a brat, he thought ruefully as he accepted her yelling and her manhandling of his poor, abused ears, making enough noise of exaggerated pain and protests to satisfy her ire.
But every façade of Sakanade was a mirror of himself, and he adored this flower child all the more for it. So proud of her he was, he had nothing but belief in her strength and will in every fight he took her to. Just as she had endless faith in his ability to get them through every adversity they encountered, the enduring pureness of her trust as her child’s feet pitter-pattered after him no matter where he led.
“Yes, yes. Ya’ve got every right ‘ta be pis- uh, mad, I mean, mad, at me. Sorry, Kiddo. I didn’t mean ‘ta be gone for so long. Missed ya too, ya troublesome ‘lil baggage.”
His dark golden gaze was warm, his voice gruffly fond even as he patted her head. Of course, he also wasted no time lightly pinching her cheek in retaliation for her threat against his precious records.

“Oy, oy. If ya do that I’m not takin’ ya ‘ta that aquarium ya’ve been buggin’ me ‘bout the last time. And here I thought we’d go for a fun outin’ and do whatever ya want for the entire day~”
What was that, Ojiisan? It sounded like a naughty word~ I hope you brought tokens with you~ Of course you missed me. How could you have any fun without me?”

She softened slightly now that he was apologizing. That’s all she’d wanted truly. An apology. His attention. His time. He was her whole world after all, and sometimes he needed a reminder. Yes, Soul Society needed him, but she honestly needed him more. They had lots of captains, lots of Shinigami. Sakanade only had one Shinji. A lump formed in her throat, tears threatening to escape her emeralds once more.
Sakanade had been through so much to get to this point. Five lifetimes of sacrifice, danger, heartache, loss, and love. It weighed heavily on her mind each time he left. Losing him was not an option, and neither was spending so much time apart. Pharaoh wasn’t that bad anymore. The sprite still didn’t enjoy the fact that she had to share her home, her Shinji, but it could have been far worse. They could have been separated again. She shook her head to release those thoughts into the clean rain-scented air. She could think about that later. She wouldn’t waste another moment on dark thoughts now that the Sun was here.

“Aquarium? Whatever I want? The whole day?” The spirit asked rapid fire. Her heart swelling with excitement. “What are we waiting for, Ojiisan? Let’s go right now!” She demanded happily.

Sakanade adored the Sanbantai Taichou. The blond was always patient, always kind, and he was very skilled with a guitar much to her delight. If there was one thing she had in common with her wielder, it was a love of music, which Rose was always happy to provide.
It seemed that everyone had decided that shorter hair was appropriate these days. She’d pouted fiercely at Rose’s much shorter hair. Whose idea was this? Nevertheless, spending time with him was a joy and he’d left more than her beloved, Shinji, so it was a start.

“Oh, the song?” She asked her eyes gaining a far off look, as her fingers paused in their motion. She had ceased to see the office or even Rose. Her emerald eyes were filled with visions of Delphi, as she stood between the columns of Apollo’s temple to watch the Sun God himself approach the temple, bearing the truths of the world and prophecies of things to come. She blinked and brought herself back to Seireitei. A smile lit up her features.
“I’ve always known it. I could teach it to you, Rojuro-nii, if you’d like.”
heavy clouds surround her on certain days, but she has rainbow in her soul, ready to come out when the storm is over.

Headcanon #1: Sakanade lovingly tends to the flora and fauna in Shinji’s mindscape. A true child of the Earth, of Spring, of new beginnings. After Aizen’s initial betrayal and the exile of the Vizards, Sakanade no longer permitted the flowers of the Gotei 13 to grow in the Garden. When Shinji would grow wistful for the past, a lily of the valley might bloom, but Sakanade would remove it swiftly. Shinji is her everything, and she has no patience for those who would sully his name or do him harm.
