The Gamemaster.

A mysterious, cruel entity. They are from an unknown species from a distant galaxy. While no one knows his real name (vital information, after all), they do know that he takes his title very seriously.

The being’s third eye works like a dice. What kind of dice? A d6.

Also, he’s very tall. He always appears 2 ft taller than the tallest person. Cause they’re a jerk.

Golden Trails

Author's Note: Part one to an interesting AU. An AU of a simple theme: Gold. There's only really two-three parts of this AU. Also, I have other story ideas for Empires.

Some with themes that I have done before. Others? Others are similar but different.

Enjoy. Story below cut:

Everyone knew that Joel loved gold.

The way it shined in the sunlight, the way it complimented his builds, and how it was so versatile with its uses.

Some members of the SMP would even argue that he loved it more than building itself (he did not love it more than Lizzie, Hermes, Sausage, and his friends though) he loves his family).

But, this love for the ore would soon come into question:

A question that teetered between the love of a prank, the lives of of Joel's friends and family, and Joel's own sanity...

This story begins on a sunny day in the Empires server.

Joel was resting in his fountain with his eyes closed. A soft sigh came out of the god as he happily chewed on some berries that came from a floating bowl.

As the god enjoyed his snack and the cool waters, golden rays of light spread across the sky; These rays then reflected off the lightning bolt. And while multiple beams of light seemed to flicker off into the distance, one beam struck the very waters that Joel was resting within.

The wolf hybrid's ears twitched as he let out a tired grunt as the bright, powerful light waved across his closed eyes. Joel let out a growl as he casted his bowl to the side. Quickly, Joel sat up as his tail thrashed.

" FWHIP?" Joel called out with a growl, " ARE YOU PRANKIN' ME AGAIN?"

No response. There wasn't even a quiet goblin chortle.

Well, there goes my good mood.

Joel thought with a scowl as he stood up from his fountain. The wolf hybrid's tail thrashed again as he re-equipped his elytra before heading back towards his main house.

As Joel walked away from the fountain, something strange began to happen to the bowl and the berries within:

It began with a golden handprint that Joel had left on the bowl casted aside. Then, golden tendrils stretched from the handprint and across the rest of the bowl. Each berry within the bowl changed too until everything was golden.

Joel let out a sigh as he stood at the base of the steps to his house. The god-like wolf hybrid sighed as he opened his communicator. A smirk formed on Joel's face as he looked at who was online:

Jimmy.

I could just go about my day with my normal, everyday 11ft height....

Joel began to ponder as his smirk grew more devilish.

Or...  With further consideration, I could remain my... Other-worldly height.... in order to hide from Jimmy as I prank him.

A small chuckle came from Joel as he adjusted his wings, gathered some rockets, then headed in the direction of Jimmy's empire.

-Brief timeskip brought to you by Lizzie dancing-

The large mesa soon came into Joel's view as he spotted the small (technically tall in this form), blond man crouched beside his TNT shop. Jimmy was busy digging through a shulker box and stocking his rocket shop.

Joel smirked as he took out his fishing rod. Silently, the bearded man landed on the roof and grinned. Joel watched as Jimmy finished restocking his shop and turned to return back to his starter base.

With a silent swing, the hook of Joel's fishing line latched to the back of Jimmy's vest. Joel's grin briefly disappeared as Jimmy stopped walking and crossed his arms.

" I know that you're here, Joel." Jimmy scowled as he looked up at bearded man. Joel stared at Jimmy as a grin swiftly returned to his face. Jimmy stared at him in disbelief and began to shake his head.

" J-!"

Jimmy couldn't even speak as he was yanked into the air like a fish being pulled from the water. As the canary hybrid was pulled upwards, he briefly made eye contact with Joel and scowled.

There's no way that Jimmy can recover from this!

Joel laughed to himself.

Jimmy's wings were still too small to support his lanky self. This is going to be priceless!

But, Joel's smirk was quickly wiped off of his face. The God watched as Jimmy quickly took out a bucket of water and used it to save himself from breaking a leg or bruising.

" You've got to be kidding me!" Joel yelled as he threw his arms into the air. The blond cowboy smirked and took the hook out of his vest.

The two stared at each other, one smug and another annoyed, for a good while until Joel rolled his eyes. With a huff, Joel leapt down from the roof and landed in front of Jimmy with a flap of his wings.

Jimmy's small wings twitched as he flinched away from the dust that Joel kicked up.

----------POV change to Jimmy-----------

" So, what are you doing here, Joel?" I questioned, " Came to bother me for rockets or just to harass me?" I looked around for cameras and sighed, " Besides, you're not even filming right now."

My tail feathers ruffled as I looked down at Joel. A slight scowl formed on my face as I put my hand to my hat. The bright sun was reflecting off of Joel's golden eyes and grinning face (were his eyes always like that?).

Joel shrugged his shoulders, " Can't I just visit my brother-in-lore?"

I tensed up then rolled my eyes. A soft grumble escaped from me as I took a deep breath. My wings twitched as I frowned.

Breathe Jimmy. Breathe. Don't get angry at him because that's what he wants.

Humoring Joel's play-on-words, I let out a sigh and begrudgingly nodded my head. Then, I held my hand out towards the shorter man.

" Fine... Yeah..." I nodded slightly, " However, do you promise to not mess with or touch any of my stuff?" I questioned with both an emphasis and a narrow of my eyes. Joel stared intensely at me with his golden eyes.

This staring contest continued unti-

" uuUUUUUUGGGGHHHH! Fine." Joel pouted slightly. Then, the man grabbed my bare hand and aggressively sho-

" Ack-!" I flinched and yanked my hand back. I clutched the limb as my feathers ruffled.

My skin crawled as a grimy, cold sensation crawled up my arm. A dull pain soon joined the strange sensation as I grimaced and shuddered. Eventually, my whole body was suffering from pins and needles.

" W-What the hell, Joel?" I questioned in bewilderment.

Joel tilted his head and raised an eyebrow.

I looked down at my hand and watched as golden dust crawled up my arm like cobwebs. The weird pain continued as my fingers tensed up and refused to move. As each digit stopped moving, I looked up at Joel as he took a step back.

" T-This is f-funny, Joel." I laughed awkwardly, " Y-You can stop this now."

My whole arm, including my shoulder, had stopped moving at this point. The golden dust was continuing to creep across my upper chest and down my torso.

Glancing down at my paralyzed arm, the golden dust had now turned into a solid sheen of gold that glistened in the sunlight. Warily, I touched at my arm as my face paled.

Tink! Clink! Clink!

It sounded like metal. It sounded. like. metal?

What did Joel do to me? Joel doesn't.... Joel doesn't have magic.

I breathed heavily as I looked up at Joel and took a step towards him. Joel took another step back as his eyes widened.

" J-Joel?" I questioned with more effort despite my voice cracking. My right leg buckled as I flinched and couldn't help but look down. My entire left leg was golden at this point: There even was a slight bend that mimicked a previous step I had taken. Meanwhile, my right leg was still moveable, but it was going numb.

Joel's ears lowered as he took another step back. The shorter man gulped as goosebumps formed on his arms.

" J-Joel?" I forced out as I struggled to swing my leg forward. When my leg touched the ground, shivers went up my spine as I let out a gasp of pain. I grasped at my chest in shock and watched as my right leg turned to gold.

Everything continued to ache as I looked down at my petrified body. I watched in horror as the dust slowly crept onto my face. I shuddered and struggled to move as the hearing in my left ear began to fade.

" J-Joel... P-Please say something!" I forced myself to speak, " Please! You've got to stop this!"

I reached my right hand towards Joel and tried to grab at him. The wolf hybrid's ears went back as his tail curled between his legs. Joel kept opening and closing his mouth as he looked around.

He was trying to escape?

He was going to escape!

I narrowed my eyes. Despite the developing petrification, I could still speak and move one arm.

" JOEL!"

I finally shouted as I gripped the front of Joel's toga right as my hand turned to gold.  Joel stared at me as his pupils shrank; his breathing had sharpened as he struggled against my statuesque grip.

" J-Jimmy..." Joel barely whispered.

It seemed like a whisper, anyways. Was it actually a whisper? Or, had my hearing weakened due to one of my ears turning to gold.

It... It was hard to tell. Everything below my chin was numb. No, No, The side of my face was now numb too... Okay... Not okay...

My vision blurred as I struggled to breath; The gold that was now covering my nose was only worsening my attempts. Static and numbness filled my brain as I let out a strained whimper.

" J-Joel..." I choked out,

" P-Please..."

The gold spread over my other eye and down to my mouth,

" H-He-...."

---------------(POV change)----------------------

Joel collapsed to the ground then clutched at his chest. The wolf hybrid's eyes were still wide open as he began to breathe quickly.

This can't be real. This can't be real. This can't be real.

Joel repeated to himself over and over again. The god-like hybrid's body was shaking as he remained on the ground.

After a few minutes of breathing exercises, Joel's body stopped shaking as he closed his eyes and his ears twitched. Joel swallowed some spit and shuddered.

This is just a bad dream. That's it...

Or... Or this... this is just a glitch in the code...

Or... Or maybe a prank to get back at me for calling him a toy!

It's. Not. Real!

Slowly, Joel raised his head and stared at the golden statue that still mimicked the same terrified expression. Joel's body was shaking as he forced himself to stand despite his legs feeling like jelly.

" H-Holy shit..." Joel whispered as he re-approached the statue. The hybrid's tail remained lowered as he touched the statue.

It was cold.

It was hard.

It was lifeless.

Joel stood in silence as he took his hand away from Jimmy's body. The wolf god's ears twitched as a small smirk pricked the side of his mouth.

" No one needs to know..." Joel mumbled as a glint of gold sparkled in his eyes. Soon, Joel snapped his fingers and the statue was gone.

Then, the man disappeared into the skies with a flap of his large wings. Tiny specks of gold glittered in his wake.

He was gone and so was his treasure... his gold... his precious gold.

I just thought of deleted after submitting this post-

 My throat? Destroyed.

 My energy? Depleted.

 My ears?

Well, I don’t have any new words to end that thought. They’re pretty bad too. But, they’re probably bad because I slept wrong.

 Who knows.

Hopefully, by Wednesday I should have things to submit for you all. Hermitcraft-y stuff and Trafficsona (okay it’s mainly AUs) but it’s fine)

Ah. Sly cooper’s 20th anniversary. This series was the first to get me into console gaming.

Despite it’s multiple flaws, I can look back on this game with happy memories.

Ya’ll ever just write up an entire dnd-influenced adventure for your online friends despite never writing one before in your life?

It’s currently 4,145 words long, and I still have some things to add to it.

What are those things? I can’t tell you. The people involved are on Tumblr too.

Maybe once it’s done, and the show has come and gone, then I’ll show you all. There’s gonna be a bunch of things that they won’t even see! Well, they might see it; it depends on the choices they make along the way.

I’ve never been a GM before. And, on top of that, I’ve only been playing the game for a little over a year.
