I watched Wish, the 100th anniversary Disney movie that came out last November, and I am not exaggerating, it was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Lmao. The music was horrible and served nothing to the plot, the heroine has no character or arc, the story is weak, it’s horribly paced, the animation looks terrible and unfinished. The lighting and field of view is so flat my eyes had no idea where to land the entire time and I couldn’t absorb any of it visually. The movie committed the sin of telling me things and not showing me things at least 600 times. The movie tried to be funny but I’m so serious, not one joke made me even chuckle the entire movie. They didn’t make me care about any of the characters. They couldn’t decide or establish what sort of villain Magnifico is supposed to be or his motivations. The magic in the movie is so vague I have no idea how it works or what it was supposed to represent. I still have no fucking clue how they defeated him at the end, was it hope? Their wishes? Their sense of community? Idk they didn’t say. Also the lyrics in the songs straight up were written by ChatGPT and never polished past that. This is a magical kingdom with no technology and they use the words “shareholders” and “genes” in lyrics. The You’re a Star song or whatever is the worst disney song I’ve ever heard. I could literally go on for hours about this movie. All the Easter eggs are so empty and forced it’s cringe.

I share this not to dog on the animators or anything, it’s not their fault. This is clearly a symptom of a continuing pattern with Disney: profit over vision and creativity. Generic heroines, generic stories, budget cuts, impossible timelines, forcing in character so they can sell toys, prioritizing palatability over art, etc.

I’m shocked Disney would even want their name on this movie.
