dick grayson in fanon: sweet silly older brother, pretty but stupid, favourite child, happy robin, basically batman 2.0 but a nice person, his brothers are more skilled and could outpace him but they love him anyways, goody-two-shoes, good relationship with batman, responsible eldest child, mentally stable and supportive

so basically, the proship vs antiship Drama boils down to proshippers saying fiction is fiction, and even if you ship something that would, in real life, be really fucked up, since it's just fiction, it doesn't really matter
whereas antis insist that shipping anything that would be fucked up in real life (minors/adults, incest, etc) then you support that thing in real life and you're a Bad Person (and you should die)
it's honestly not much deeper than that, despite that fact that i could probably go on about it forever. one side says 'fiction is fiction, and as long as you tag properly, do whatever' and the other is sending death threats and accusing people of being pedophiles because they shipped the wrong ship (<- the way antis throw around the word pedophile is infuriating)
(if it was not obvious, i'm firmly against antis, even if i don't consider myself proship)
i do kinda get where antis come from, at least when you just take their arguments in a vacuum, but i've personally seen too much vitriol to ever give an anti the benefit of the doubt. like. people have died because of anti harassment. there's so many horror stories, and it's Not pretty
uh, basically that's it! hope that helped explain it?
Thanks! This helps a lot. I would like to see the other side of the argument as well, just to get the full picture. But as it is, the other side doesn't sound all that pleasant.
I cannot condone threats and stuff, and over something as mundane as fiction characters? I'm honestly gonna try and avoid this whole thing where I can, but I'm terrified that it'll come up again when I can't avoid it.

Sunshine
Cross was familiar with the blinding lights of the lab. They were harsh, and bright, and hurt his eyelights. At night, they were turned off. And Cross had gotten used to it. Either the it was completely bright, the artificial lights shining as bright as possible, or it was next to pitch black, the only source of light being the blinking colors from various machines. While there were certainly things beyond the lab, Cross tended to forget they existed. Up until he was forcefully reminded.
The container the thresher was loaded into was far from comfortable. There was barely enough room to turn around, there was almost no light filtering through, and it was made of a dense uncomfortable metal. The container was handled far from carefully and Cross wanted nothing more than to get out. He couldn't tell where he was going, but the familiar danger was likely safer than an unfamiliar one.
This logic was quickly proved when a storm hit the boat. Cross's cell was tossed about, shaking up the poor mer inside. After a particularly hard bout of jostling, Cross hit his head against the walls of the container and sunk into unconsciousness.
---
The next time he woke, the edge of a large tentacle was just snaking out of his line of sight. Cross clutched his skull in pain, but was quick to notice that his container was broken open. Without a moment to truly think about his actions, Cross darted out into the open ocean. All at once he saw the great expanse of color and was mesmerized. Fish and coral surrounded the thresher.
Cross took a moment to enjoy his return to freedom. And then he looked up. Not all that far above him, sunbeams danced through the water, swirling around like they were carried by the currents. He swam up slowly, taking in everything.
Finally, he broke the surface, the sun shining down on him after the years spent in the lab. Now that he was back, he could see the sun every single day. Find a rock above the waves and enjoy its warmth. Nothing could force him to stay away again.
