This was... well I didn't know how to describe this. Atleast to myself. James Potter. My *best friend*. It was stupid. That was the word. *Idiotic*. This could not end well.

James heavily insisted on doing homework with me today. The Griffindor barely kept up with his parchment, I was surprised he even remembered it. The common room is quiet, the majority of our fellow house mates scattered around the school grounds.

"You really need to stop leaving your papers for the last moment." I scold lightly, however, my final page remained blank.

"Oh don't act all smart Y/N. You aren't much ahead yourself." James points out, gesturing towards my paper.

Ink drips onto the page, deep in thought. It's been on my mind for weeks and this wasn't the time nor place I imagined it but... his features under the soft candle light, the sear concentration keeping his face relaxed and calm... he almost looked beautiful.

"Hellooo? Earth to Y/N?" James says, my thoughts come rushing back to reality with a jump. "Woah calm down there mate. You alright? We can pick up in the morning." He offers, a slight concerned expression across his face.

"Huh? Oh! Sorry there. Just.. thinking 'bout something is all." I say, trying to lighten the mood with a soft laugh.

James examines my features closely. Watching his eyes shifting over my face makes me nervous, causing a light flush to become apparent across my cheeks.

"Are you alright mate? This is the most I've seen you concentrate all night." I say, laughing nervously as I lean back in my seat.

"What's wrong with you man? You never act like this? What have you been thinking about to make you like this?" James questions.

My heart sinks as I stare back at him. His eyes could read me, they've always been able to. I was like a window to him while he was a brick wall. He breaks the gaze first, clearing his throat before ducking down to continue he's sad excuse for a paper. I get up the courage to reach over, gently placing a hand over his quill.

"James?" I start, swallowing hard. "I... I need you to just stop for a moment and listen." I say, slowly pulling the quill from his fingers. His eyes travel up to meet mine once again as he leaves back.

"Alright. Go ahead." James says, his leg bouncing under the table.

My fingers lightly tap the wood of the table as I take in a couple deep breaths.

"I was just wondering if.. maybe you'd like to go to The Three Broomsticks with me this Friday after our classes?" I ask calmly, my eyes trained on my lap.

"Mate we already go to there every weekend." James says oblivious.

"No James.. I mean just me and you... like a-a date?" I finally say it, squeezing my eyes shut. *'Holy shit what if he doesn't like men?'* I think for the first time in weeks.

There's a long, stress inducing silence. "I'd love to." James finally speaks up.

My eyes snap up to look at him, searching for any sort of humor across his face.

"Really?" I breath out, my shoulders visibly relaxing.

"Sure. What do I have to lose? I'd love to go with you."
