can you do a tutorial on how to draw swords? Idk if you really can but just wondering. I should probably practice drawing objects more but i always have a hard time drawing swords :\\

the two main things i’d try to focus on would be learning the general anatomy of a sword and figuring out how those parts can be simplified into 3d shapes!

by just googling the words “sword anatomy” i’ve found a couple sites that go over the different parts of a sword and their functions

(they all focus more on european swords so i’m focusing this post more on european swords as well because they’re kind of the “generic/default” type of sword. for other swords though you can probably just find the name of the type of the sword you want to draw and google about it (eg. i googled “katana parts” and found these resources.) if you want to be hardcore you can go to a library or something and read books about swords)

to sum it up though swords are basically like this:

and then the next part is just breaking things down into 3d shapes so that they’re easier to draw at different angles and stuff

(simplifying a sword into a pole or something also makes it a lot easier to pose onto a character)

there are all kinds of swords so in general i think it’s good to just keep an observant eye out for things like distinct shapes and details and stuff, and (most importantly) to actually apply and experiment with your observations in your art!

Can you do a tutorial on drawing knight armor? Both for male and female bodies, please.

for learning to draw armor i’d use a similar approach to the one i used for drawing swords!

again, there are two main things i’d suggest focusing on:-studying the different parts of an armor and how they workand-visualizing the armor as 3d shapes

i found some sites that go over things like armor parts and their functions here and here, a lot of nice photo reference here, and a bunch of labelled diagrams on google images

i couldn’t find any clear image reference for how medieval armor is layered but you can see that in this video of a guy getting armor put on

basically though i think its a bit like this:

there is a lot of liberty you can take with the details, shapes, and proportions etc, (also remember, medieval europe isn’t the only era armor comes from!) so you can use that to communicate things like the time period and culture the armor is from, the personality of its wearer, etc.

with simplifying armor into 3d shapes i’d basically just use a regular human body as a base. having a decent grasp of anatomy really helps with this i think

there is technically little or no difference between actual male/female armor, from the way i understand things at least (armor is just armor after all), but you can take a look at this post of mine for strategies you can use to make armor look more masculine or feminine

and then of course there’s that boob plate thingthere are reasons why those don’t really work in real life but you could always pull out the artistic liberty card so

This book has a very detailed description of 6 types of commonly seen folds and I think is one of the most educational resource on how to draw folds(Besides Vilppu and Bridgeman).

Is there a website to look up models or people  to draw, with gender, ethnicity, and age filters. (if possible)?

 For example if a wanted to make a cartoon character realistic and use a real person for reference or to edit the photo to look like them?

I’ve been just googling  white 20s male, black female 40s etc. (can’t find any good references for kids either)  and been sifting through the results.

yesterday i reblogged a drawing resource that included how to draw hijabs - and it honestly wasn’t the best advice i’ve seen out there

now, i’m not an artist. but what i saw was a video that included hijab styles most of us don’t really wear and incorrect terminology surrounding niqabs and burqas (yes, there is a difference between the two)

so, i went searching and found a tutorial that i felt was better! these drawing guides and examples come from @/winchestermeg on twitter, and i think they’re really great 💕

this has more relevant examples and correct terminologies, and is drawn by a muslim woman

do you have any tutorial on how to paint gold? your gold motifs are so beautiful and it's something i struggle with. Any advice would be appreciated

Or if you lock layer transparency — or however its called in Photoshop — you can use a textured brush to quickly pepper in some highlights & shadow to add a gold-ish effect:
