some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.

What is a random scene you would have liked to have seen in canon?

0. Markus converting machine Connor / Connor having no choice but to deviate on his own due to SI reaching some peak, without a choice to remain non-deviant

I don't like the scene with him "become deviant/stay a machine". It's the most underwhelming while also most awaited scene of the game that could have been better, whether by having a scene that shows Markus converting him (slipping into his memories through an interface and making it a combined effort in breaking those walls for him) or through some kind of emotional shock (maybe later in the game)

If there is a scenario in which he has no choice but to remain a machine, there should have been the opposite. Markus vs Connor fight scene being only available in machine route is a crime.

1. HANK DECIDING NOT TO THROW CONNOR DOWN THAT ROOF 💯

I hate hate hate how that's the only decision he can make while Connor can decide to change his mind on this. I mean, I get it, but also, I wish there was a way for Connor to turn deviant somewhere during or after this scene. And I know there are people (exactly one lol) who'll fucking bite me for that and call me a stupid mf but Yeah, I want that

"You're a machine, Connor. Just a machine"

Well, there could have been literally no choice for Connor to become anything else, and you're a fucking hypocrite

1.1 OR Connor throwing himself off that roof like he does with Allen, but it being like

Hank: "<...> But humans don't come back, do they?"

Connor: "No, they don't. But I will."

2. Connor calling Hank out on his bullshit after shooting Chloe (previously being shot himself)

The fact that we can Never call him up on his hypocrisy is ANNOYING. I want to rub it back at him.

3. Markus(maybe together with North) meeting Kamski

Being presented with a test, but turning the gun on Kamski, or instead stretching a hand to help Chloe up (while converting), then handing the gun to her to decide.

I want a reverse-kamski test.

4. Alice saying Kara who she is when they're at Rose.

Get rid of that stupid fucking policeman scene and finally make it about Alice and Kara. And remove that stupid twist about her "knowing all along"

5. Jericrew members each talking about their past and how they got to Jericho first chapter they're introduced.

Not only North (although she might be the one who reveals her story later, like she does in canon)

6. Amanda showing more appealing traits making the player like her (more).

Making her look reasonable and trustworthy, not only strict and chronically disappointed to the point where status "betrayed" makes the player celebrate instead of going "oh, I think I might have fucked up". I don't have a specific scene in mind for this, just a general vibe.

7. EGG CONNOR 🥚

Show me. At least one scene, I'm begging. I don't know the context, whether it's Markus's final speech where EVERYONE is taking their skin off (please, why isn't it real), or maybe he himself turns it off to make a point, perhaps in response to Hank's whining about "what are you really" and him going skinless looking him dead in the eyes and going "a machine" or actually not saying anything, turning the skin off is enough of a power-move that doesn't require more words to be said out loud.

8. RA9 obsession among at least one of the protagonists. How is that they're all immune to that?

I don't know if I'd like it to be played along with RA9 = the player with some of them breaking the fourth wall and saying something like "RA9, help me" looking straight into the camera, or for it to be something completely different but idk, I really wish something could have been done about it. Perhaps it being a password needed to break the walls/escape the garden?

9. Appearance of current CyberLife CEO on the news or if not CEO then SOMEONE who's currently working in that company.

How is it possible that we only see Kamski who had been away from CyberLife for years and know absolutely nothing about who's currently in charge? Show usss, let them say something publicly.

10. More Perkins scenes.

Let him live his villain era to the fullest. Perhaps making him machine Connor's new partner after he's out of the DPD. I wanna see the two of them working together in order to achieve common goal of stopping Markus.

I think I'm forgetting something...ah YES (ignore the order, it means little about the significance of those non-existent scenes)

11. Markus crying during the revolution

Not only when Carl dies. (Why is it more soul-crushing for him than the death of his friend or lover?)

I can never understand how could they create a scene where Simon/North is literally giving him their heart and him taking it with barely any visible emotion. And in general, the way Markus can loose all of them, every single one of them, and never tear up. FUCK, let him SOB

If not here, make him have tears during his final speech or close to the end of it. From all the weight from recent events and grieve accumulated over the time of the game to the point where it's not possible to contain it in a stoic way. He's not a damn captain Picard to take everything with a strict frown.

Oh I've waited *years* for someone to ask me fic recs and I shall deliver.

Ik you technically asked for canon compliant stuff but honestly I'm the complete opposite about characters, like I look at two completely different characterizations and I'll go "oh maybe he would say both of those," I'm just generally a massive AU enjoyer.

So instead of trying to sort and struggle and figure out what to recommend, I'll just throw a bunch of stuff your way and hope at least something works!

Torn alliances https://archiveofourown.org/works/25009789 in which it's also a post-pacifist ending fic, except deviated Connor was shot by Markus in the church,  came back on the rooftop scene as a machine, and deviated there thanks to Hank. From there it explores what happens after in about a million words.

Sanction https://archiveofourown.org/series/2226099 is a series that also features the Markus-killed-Connor-in-church-but-he-survived-what-happens-now type story, the prequel has Connor & Carl interaction which while rare, is very precious to me in this fandom, and the sequel has some awesome angst about the Amanda takeover and it's potential consequences/meanings

Is a series that really focuses on the dpd police department and their interactions post-pacifist ending, the characters are basically built from nothing by the author so this could be a non-canon-compliant type of fic but I listed it anyway cuz it's an awesome series what can I say

Cutting ties https://archiveofourown.org/series/2738356 is a series of fics more about Connor and his struggle with deviancy and android kind, I honestly started reading this for the Connor & North friendship cuz damn i love those two and their interactions

Deviating and Solving Crime with 100% Human Detective Connor https://archiveofourown.org/works/29270769 is abt Connor being deviant the entire time but staying undercover as a detective in the DPD, super hilarious imo, loved the characterization of basically everyone, probably the longest 5 + 1 type fic I've read

Is an au fic of the game timeline where Connor is simultaneously deviant and machine, he has to delete memories of himself letting deviants go to hide his actions from cyberlife, and Hank is hostile at first, which is a fun part.

Reset https://archiveofourown.org/works/15118730/chapters/35054933 is a classic time-travel fix-it trope, 8 months after a failed revolution, Connor goes back in time thanks to Kamski and, well, fixes stuff. Sassy Connor is my beloved fr he's so awesome.

I'd probably have more recs (seeing as I have over 350+ downloaded detroit fics) and would know more specifically which ones were the more canon-compliant ones but the hyperfixation is sporadic and comes back every few years and it just came back very recently again, so I don't remember completely what all fics were about and how much I liked them (why did I not make summaries and list thoughts why past me why were you DUMB) but the ones I listed are hopefully very readable 👍

If they ever think about expanding on Detroit become human (they won't, I'm delusional), I honestly don't want some sequel with new characters and new times, I don't want a detroit become human 2. I want a dlc to the current game, that adds more 'canon-compliant' (time-line-compliant?) chapters, more endings. Give me more ways to deviate Connor, like on the rooftop with Hank (still salty that wasn't a thing that could happen). Give me a chapter fully focused on jericrew interacting and planning before the march/broadcast/whatever. Give me more interactions between the main characters, like a longer/added on church chapter. The timeline of the game was insanely short yet there is still so much unfilled time, so many ways for things to end differently.

(fun fact i constantly had similar type thoughts about Stanley parable, wanted more story and endings with same characters and plot and such, next thing I know years later Stanley parable Ultra deluxe comes out and througouly exceeds my expectations LMAO)

(this logically is never happening to dbh tho, the recording and logistics n stuff would most likely not work but hey, that's what fanfics are for, anyway time to head back to ao3)

Ooh there's so many good ones and for a while I couldn't choose between every episode that was even a smidge Morty-centric (because I'm insane about Morty Primes character specifically), but then Fear no mort came out and I've never recovered, this ain't just recency bias I'm simply so insane about everything that happened, Diane, morty facing the fear of rick not caring (but he DOES CARE 😭) like that scene where he figured out the hole still gives me chills and I also loved the "still in the hole" humor a lot, genuinely my fav and will probably stay that for a while

I think there's a lot you can tell about a Ninjago fan based on what objectively mediocre season they're unhealthily obsessed with.

Like, obsessed in an "i know its bad writing but goddamn does it compel me" kinda way. In a "no one can talk shit about my fave but me" kinda way. In an "I deserve a PhD for how intensely I study this thing under a microscope" kinda way. In an "Im the only one who truly understands this story and its wasted potential, so im the only one capable of hating it correctly" kinda way.
