I severely overestimated my ability to finish a digital drawing in a timely manner, so to ensure that I won't be entirely empty-handed on Barricade Day, here are the two barricade illustrations from À Cinq Heures Nous Serons Tous Morts! The first one is an illustration from Les Misérables, the second is the Saint-Merry barricade.
(please forgive the low quality of the photos)

when youre trying to call your crush but your dad only keeps landline phones that are 20 years outdated
[ID: a digital drawing of Cosette from Les Miserables. She is fat, and has curly hair dyed pink. She is sitting on the ground, holding a landline corded phone receiver with one hand. The other is dialing the number off screen. She looks nervous. She is wearing a pink skirt, long socks, and a brown shirt that says “acab”. On her wrist is a trans flag bracelet. End ID.]

Happy Barricade Day to my Les Mis fam! May others rise to take our place until the earth is free.

But The Stars Give Off SparksÂ
Summary: In the months leading up to the barricade–and during it–Enjolras shares a moment with each of his friends.
A family, until the end.
“Blood smears the paving stones at sunrise just as rain melts the sentinels of the night sky, drip drip dripping down from one generation to the next. Injustice metes out a drumbeat beneath the ground, and rebellion answers with a song.”
Jean Prouvaire pauses for a fleeting second, his gaze flitting to Enjolras in the dim candlelight of the back room of the Musain, full to bursting with iridescent memories of their friends, who left the two of them about an hour ago, each going their own way out into the crisp autumnal evening. Prouvaire feels them here, still, catching the laughter they left behind in his hands. Bahorel’s rings out the clearest, even in remembrance.
“The night comes and it comes and it comes,” he continues. “But the stars give off sparks.”
Happy Barricade Day 2021!
