Batman #391 & DC #558: Mom Nocturna Finale

First, Batman says this about Jason and it’s fine, I didn’t need my heart anyways. 

Jason’s keeping watch over Nocturna’s Observatory when the Night Slayer, a bad guy who’s infatuated with Nocturna, shows up. He and Jason fight to reach Nocturna first, Jason to save her and Night Slayer to kill her. 

Nocturna, meanwhile, is super depressed. She knows Night Slayer wants her dead, and she can’t think of a reason she shouldn’t be. He reaches her first and she lets him stab her, ready to die. 

But Jason is right there and sees the whole thing. 

He attacks Nigh Slayer, which…

triggers Mom!Nocturna to protect her Robin and brings her out of her slump.

SHE CALLS JASON “SON”

Batman and Catwoman show up, there’s an epic fight, Night Slayer gets taken down. 

But Nocturna’s got mortal wounds, and Jason’s the one to watch over her, as always. He uses her real name and calls her ‘Natalia’ instead of ‘Nocturna’. They literally reach mom/son mode just as Natalia is literally dying. I hate writers. 

Jason carefully puts her in her hot air balloon and lets her go.

Just like that. 

*VIOLENTLY CRIES*

We get the aftermath which is no less painful. Especially because we don’t know if Nocturna’s wounds killed her or not. For all Jason, knows, she’s dead. 

So there you have it! The tragic story of Jason and Nocturna. 

And no, I’m still not over it. I love Nocturna and I wish there was more of her. There’s definitely more that goes on between them, these posts were just my favorite things. 

Nocturna has a huge impact on Jason and he never quite gets over her. Even till the end of his run there’s panels where her name comes up and Jason just…freezes, sometimes cries. He never stops missing her, kinda like how Batman occasionally looks at the Jason memorial in the post-crisis version and just stops for a panel or two of ‘angst mode’. Same thing.

Duke is one of Steph’s Robin’s because Steph is actually pretty metaphysically important to Duke’s stories. You could argue that Steph was the first We Are Robin kid in the sense that she was one of the first ‘normal gotham kids’ to just start fighting crime and she even made herself a home made Robin costume. Also the main antagonists of the We Are Robin kids were the Talons and the Court of Owls. You know the secret society that Steph’s father was able to uncover by himself and steal from and a Talon killed Arthur Brown. Also Robin War directly followed events from Batman Eternal which reintroduced Steph to the new 52
