How is that reassuring? Like 75% of the FNDM hate Jaune so why would he being super chill be a good thing?
The more I think about it the more I hate the 'Jaune isn't afraid' line. He should be. There's lots to be afraid of. People who are overly confident make mistakes. OTOH you have Ironwood who is terrified but still trying to do anything he can to save people. On the other hand you have JRY cheerfully abandoning everything to go save Oscar. You also have RWB sitting in a mansion watching Whitley do things. The terrified man is acting heroically, the 'heroes' are just - I mean they're useless.
Not to be quoting OUAT in the year of our lord 2021, but I’ve always loved Belle’s response when Rumpelstiltskin asks her how she was able to give up her life as a part of his trade. It’s a little speech, but she ends it with, “I always wanted to be brave. I figured, do the brave thing and bravery will follow.” This acknowledges that she wasn’t brave, she was just able to make that choice regardless of the fact that she was scared, and its the act itself that makes her a brave person, not the absence of fear. To me, that’s WAY more powerful than a character who just... isn’t scared? For reasons? Intrinsically and in a way the audience can never relate to? RWBY doesn’t even give us any reason for why Jaune is like this. I could maybe buy it regarding Ren — something something evolving my semblance means I now have better control over my own emotions, meaning I’m less likely to buckle under the current terror of our situation — but Jaune feels like a random choice. He’s sacred a lot! That’s not a bad thing.

He doesn’t even have the excuse of being the leader here, given that Yang isn’t a part of his original team and Ren is the one leading them towards Oscar. It just felt like such an awkward attempt to pat themselves on the back, especially since the same scene officially axes Ren’s speech in the snow: “Don’t know why I was worried about silly things like turning on our allies and trapping a whole city here to die at Salem’s hands. Jaune isn’t worried! Therefore everything will indeed turn out alright, because he believes it will.”

Well...that little discussion was bound to happen. Jon brought it on himself.
And...Poor Tim. He’s trapped too.
